MXR M101 Phase 90 Phaser Pedal Reviews

Super simple. Effortlessly get a perfect phaser sound and just set the speed to your liking. I almost always use it with the speed all the way down to get that sort of incubus phaser sound. I sometimes like to set it to 3 o'clock where the speed is fast enough to give solo notes sort of a rotary sound which can also be really cool. Also Van Halen.

I am an unabashedly intense EVH freak, and I love his guitar tone and skill above all. I have many stories to tell about this pedal, but my first is my favorite. I had asked my guitar teacher to teach me eruption, nd he told me to bring my pedalboard. I had a phase 90, as it is one of the most Iconic pedals ever made and was one of the first pedals I ever purchased. When we got to the tapping part, I learned and played it, and he said now do that again. As I began, he clicked on my Phase 90 and placed it at a low setting. It completed the solo and made me feel like a guitar god. it was euphoric. I really can't recommend this pedal enough, whether you are looking for a simple compact phase to start out, are a pro who needs a versatile box that saves board space, or are a Van Halen Maniac like me, you need one of these little guys on your board.

Simple ,straightforward, and to the point! This is a pedal adds the classic EVH and Rush sound. Here is how I have this setup. First my MXR Micro Flanger, MXR Phase 90, Morely Classic Wah, Ibanez ts9 Tubescreamer, Boss EQ ge-7, Digitech Whammy 5, MXR Chorus Analog, and Pigtronix Gatekeeper Micro at the front of the amp. The only pedal in the effect loop is the Pigtronix Emanator dely. The Flanger and Phaser is at the front of the amp because I find of them to have more control after all my pedal arrangements. This pedal made my sound so much better!

The MXR
is probably the most esential pedal you can have makes all other pedal`s sound even better.

Had mine for about a month now. Works perfectly and super fun to use.

Some folk hate on the block logo Phase 90, well I love it, it's got a nice bite and roar to it plus doesn't get lost in a band setting. The script version is so subtle that it's easy to forget that it's even on. I had an EVH phase 90 and used it in the block mode all the time, then sold it as I didn't like the tone it added to my straight sound when it was in by pass mode, dunno why but it took some low end off my dry tone. And so when the time came to get another Phaser, I went straight for the block Phase 90, no brainier. It's the only phase sound I need. Simple one knob and sounds great. Most of the sounds I use are in the slower settings between quarter to halfway up. This pedal is a classic and it's just perfect for me, it is on my board forever. Even on a clean sound it's got a nice tone for funky stuff too. There is a simple mod you can do to make it into a Script phase 90 by snipping one resistor if that's what you want. I've tried a few phasers out and this is the one I am sticking with. Very sturdy, well built. I've got other MXR pedals and they are all built this way.

Does exactly as advertised. Simple and great sound. Sweetwater always comes through!

I just received this pedal for Father's Day and it's just great. I have to say that this is first pedal I ever plugged in and it just sounded amazing. No tweaking just adjust the speed to what I like and BAM! It instantly replay my chorus and flanger. It's just great.

Having used an MXR Phase 90 for decades it was a "no brainer" when it came time to buy a new unit. I have the MXR 99 mini unit on another board but for a new giging board build I wanted to stick to the basic, easy to use, and familiar. Built like a rock.

Great pedal. You can get the old style outlaw country sound out of this pedal.

As a bass player, it is hard to find efx that sound as good on a bass as they do on guitar. This is my third try with phase shifters and the MXR is perfect!! Super smooth classic sound with no power drop, no distortion, no hiss, no nothing other than the classic cosmic phase!! I totally recommend this pedal to bass players!

Not a lot to say. It's a classic pedal and a classic sound. I like simple and this fits the bill. It's solid, well built, and looks great of course.

what can i say, i've been wanting a MXR 90 Phaser for the Longest. never got around to getting One. But now i got One and it's everything i expected to be. Loving my MXR 90 Phaser.

If you don't like this then it's probably because you want more knobs on the pedal. I love the simplicity and it sounds great. I use it on bass and guitar. I can do Smashing pumpkins (Today) type slight slow phase or very fast alien noises. Always sounds great.

I had this pedal years ago, and wanted that sound again. I knew what this pedal sounded like and was not disappointed when I got the new one. MXR has the best phaser for my style. I've tried others, and this one has the best all around sounds. Thanks MXR.

This pedal is awesome. I had this pedal years ago, and it made my sound complete. When I started to play guitar again after a long pause, this was the pedal I looked at getting first. Looking at adding some other MXR phase pedals to my line up in the future. MXR makes great pedals.

This pedal is awesome! I saw it on so many pedalboards and wondered what it did. I play in a psychedelic/bluesy band and it is so useful. I use it for almost everything now and it's built nice and is one of my favorites now for sure!

Awesome pedal, easy to use and it adds some pretty darn cool sounds.

I use this a lot for clean channel / acoustic intros, etc. and it adds a very distinctive sound. It's very simple to use and it just works. Sounds great also.

I bought this initially in 1972 and loved it! It got lost along the way all these years later, so I bought another one. Still the best phaser you can buy. I have had great success using Dunlop products, and especially this the MXR Phase 90.

What makes this pedal so perfect is Everything. Price, simplicity of operation, shimmery effects, classic phasing. Just drop in a battery and go. Or connect a Dunlop 9v power supply and keep the Phase 90 always on line. The switch is just so smooth and easy to operate.

I firmly believe that less is more when it comes to pedals and with one button and one pot the MXR M101 fits the bill.

I love my 90 , and I love all mxr pedals , the 90 I use very very often , fits my 80's style rock very very we'll , it's a must have

I own the original and this current production model sounds exactly like it. I'm very happy to now be able to keep my original at home where it's safe but not have to give up the sound I love.

I love this pedal. it adds so much color to your tone without any loss of volume when you play a high note on a lead.Most of my effects pedals are MXR. Their products never let me down. Most effects I trade in after a time but not MXR products. The phase 90 is the best phase pedal I have ever used.

there is something that no digital pedal does yet well and that is to emulate modulation effects, use both the Fractal FM3 and the Kemper Stage and both come close but not quite, I thought the sound was going to be too excessive or too light, but the ending is just what your ears ask for. countless recordings recorded that sound in your memory so it is difficult for it to sound bad to you, I only give it 4.5 because I would like them to find a way to add some extra function to this case, I know that the mini P95 exists but I do not like the mini pedals and the P100 is already too big

I like this pedal. I play jazz (mostly fingerstyle chord melody) and this pedal gives me a sound reminiscent of one of my all time favorite players... Ted Greene. It's so versatile too; slow lush phasing which can also simulate the sound of auto-wah (Fly Away...Lenny Kravits) or to the other extreme (Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds...Beatles).
I had owned one of these many years ago, but you know how it is with guitar gear... it comes and goes.
anyway... It's a great pedal and I'm glad I got one.

Note one thing.... I dont use phaser almost ever, BUT! This thing is the best phaser pedal in the world. It's the only phaser you'll need but for a great price.

The MXR Phase 90 is all you need if you what a Phaser. One knob, no need to twiddle knobs, flip switches, set internal dip switches, none of that. Dial in the amount of phase you need and you are done.
Another example of when less is more.

I've not really played with these types of pedals much, modulations, but thought I'd explore a bit and saw some youtubes.
I liked this pedal but wasn't sure, but I keep getting good comments from others on my sound with it. You may not have much control over it, but it does seem to add another dimension.

Does everything I need it to in a space saving frame size. I'm a big fan of simple controls on pedals and you can't get any simpler than one knob and an on/off switch. It's well built too, as you'd expect from MXR. If you need a phaser look no further.

Simple. Does exactly what it is supposed to do. Nice thick sound. Great texture effects. Does however add a slight boost in volume, but it's manageable. Great for the price and it's a classic.

I was a little worried after I ordered the MXR Phase 90. Being used to a Mutron Bi-Phase, I didn't know how the MXR would perform. BOY, was I surprised. Not only could I get that "Waylon" and Van Halen phase sound, I also got a great classic "Alabama" sound, too.
It is built rugged and simple...who could ask for more. I give the MXR Phase 90 "two thumbs up". And kudos to Kurt and the whole Sweetwater staff for excellent service!

No bells and whistles but whoosh what a sound. Only thing I don't like is that my volume gets boosted when I activate it in my chain. It's my only pedal that does that. But it does its job otherwise.

This little unit is replacing an old MXR phase 90 that has seen better days on a new pedal board build I'm working on. There are other units available but the trusty Phase 90 sounds like it should.

Excellent guitar phaser. Tried it on a couple of mono synths and didn't care for it. On guitar it is a hair overblown with no way to back it off. But, it sounds great.

I like the easy simplicity of the phase pedal. Ads a nice complexity to the sound.

Has a great sound to it, a really wonderful tone. I would highly recommend it over any other phaser in the same price range, nothing can touch it in terms of its sonic quality, and it's a great bargain for the money.

That said, I would have given it 5 stars, but the phaser adds a little gain to your signal when it's on. This can be a distraction in quieter live situations and is uptick in volume is particularly noticeable on recordings.

Very disappointed in MXR products these days. My Phase 90 sound "OK" for a while and then started sounded distorted when playing anything other than single notes. I'll be switching to the Boss PH-3 - I've had their Chorus pedal for years and it's excellent.
