Peavey PV 12M 500W 12 inch 2-way Floor Monitor Reviews

12" 2-way Passive Stage Monitor (each)

Peavey continues to pack a punch in the live sound world with the PV 12M! The PV 12M is a two-way system with a 12-inch Sheffield Pro 1200+ premium woofer and a 14XT 1.4-inch titanium-diaphragm compression driver (no piezos) coupled to a constant-directivity horn with Sound Guard IV high-frequency driver protection. The PV 12M is rated at 500 watts program and 1,000 watts peak power handling capability. This rugged trapezoidal enclosure is built for the rigors of the road, and allows the PV 12M to be angled at either 30 or 45 degrees from the floor in addition to being pole mounted. Two 1/4-inch, full-range parallel inputs allow easy daisy chaining of several PV 12Ms. Top quality performance from a very affordable, low-profile stage monitor!

Not much to say abou these aside from they sound just fine and they were a reasonable price. I've only used them for one gig so far but I like them.

Great sound!

By Edward B. from OR

Having played on many professional stages, and heard most studio monitors and high fidelity home speaker systems, this is the best sounding floor monitor I have ever heard. I have 2 that I have placed on road cases in my studio recreation room for listening to music powered by a Mackie 1400i at 10:00 and the detail and realism is astounding, no coloration, no hype. I use a tiny bit of eq on the top and bottom. Seriously, you could use these as big monitors in a control room. Highly recommend.

Solid Budget Monitor Wedge

By Ryan H. from Warsaw, IN
Music Background: 20+ years amateur musician

The Peavey PV 12M unpowered monitor wedge will get plenty loud and stay clear. The 30-degree angle is perfect for placement under/beside mic stands; if you need 45 degrees, it can be positioned on the other side (logo upside down). Bass response is poor, but honestly that's what I like about 12" monitors; there's plenty of low-end bleeding on stage from other sources already. Smaller size for less clutter, too. Only thing missing is an attenuation knob, but that's a very rare thing to find in an unpowered speaker, anyway. All in all, at $... it's not going to blow you away, but will feel like money well spent.

Better than expected

By Jim M. from Southern WV
Music Background: 45 years in bands and churches

We bought a pair of the PV12M monitors for our 400 seat churrch. They are loud and clean.
First Sunday singers remarked are the great volume and clairity. Even people in the front rows could hear the fullness of the sound. Very , very satisfied. Once again Sweetwater and their sales staff came thru.
Thank You Sweetwater.

Really good for the money

By Martin V. from Raleigh, NC

Never compare monitors to mains. These speakers are fine for monitoring and are clear and loud enough for most applications. Peavey stuff in general is my favorite bargain for live music. If you're going to spend much money on monitors, get an ear system. Hopefully, you get to individually mix for the musicians who are in front of each monitor separately so they can emphasise the parts they need to focus on. Monitors are designed for short throw. That's what you want because you're only a few feet away. That's why mains make terrible monitors and vice versa. They would work as mains for a really small place like coffee shops and deck parties. 12" seem best for guitar and vocals while the 15" do a better job if you need the full band. But I really recommend cutting the vocal reverb off or anything else effect wise so I you can perform. Many vocalists are afraid of how their voice sounds naturally but they'll get used to it. Trust the front of the house speakers to deliver to the main mix to the audience. I do wish they had the attenuation they used to have so daisy chained monitors could individually contol volume. That's why I gave e these a four out of five.

The truth

By Richard from Greenville, NC
Music Background: Been playing since 1967

If you already have a low end PA then these are fine. When put next to a decent set of main speakers, these sound like they're as cheap as they cost. We use 15 year old Peavey SP5Gs as our mains, and these monitors sound like crap compared to the mains. Even though they have a 15" woofer, there is virtually no bottom end. To be effective as a monitor, monitor speaker cabs need to be able to faithfully recreate the sound that is coming out of the mains. these aren't even close. Spend the extra $150 per cab and get better monitors.

Great for the $$$$$$

By Rob G. from Tobyhanna, Pa
Music Background: Professional sound engineer for over 30 + years.

I purchased these from Luke Herian Ext. 1236. I used these for an install job for a small local church, They only needed monitors for their 5 vocalist's, so I bought a pair of these for them. The first day I plugged them in without an E.Q.. After a ten minute sound check, every vocalist was blown away by these. No need to add an E.Q. for this situation. They have plenty of power and are clear. I am only running vocals thru these, If you need to run instruments, I would highly recommend the 15" version. For vocals only, these do the job with NO COMPLAINTS. Well worth the money.

NOTHING WRONG WITH THESE

By WILDBILL-45 from NEW CASTLE, PA---USA
Music Background: PRO MUSICIAN---ROCK

I am a classic & southern rock musican. I've had these monitors for about a month now. They are clear & sound great, and I have used other name brands of monitors. They are very basic without anything fancy. For the price, they are a good deal compared to other monitors that are of camparible value. Only worry is that I am used to a monitor built with thicker wood, but these seem sturdy enough---I don't jump on them!!! Only bummer is that they are not American made, they are made in China. Pretty common now-a-days, but there are still a few other brands currently made in USA...but give it time!!!
