Best Telecaster Pickups If Ever Used
I'm really picky about my Telecaster tone. I don't like overtly twangy or muddy tones. Balance is everything. These pickups have wonderful high end on all positions, while still maintaining the warmth needed for many styles of music. Great for rhythm and lead tones. Can't say enough good things about these pickups.
Fender 1964 Tele pickups
These pickups were recommended to me by Zac Childs. There not as powerful as my Texas specials but they rock and have a nice tone and they cost about a hundred less and easy to wire. You can't go wrong with these:)
Balancing, earm & bright at the same time
These pickups were already installed in a swamp ash nitro partscaster body I got used. I installed a used Baja maple neck.
My plan was to switch them out for some bigger output Broadcaster pups. I was familiar with those since I've played my friends tele's with Broadcaster's.
I was surprised how good the '64's sounded. Very detailed with the tone rolled back. (Using a paper in oil Russian surplus. 047 cap). Twangy but not brittle. The lead pup is noticeably louder that the neck. With an OCD type dirt box it has a very ballsy character.
These pickups are staying. I use another partscaster with Cavalier Fat Lion pickups, loud & fat for live work, but I always come back to the '64's.
Great Pickups!
Had an issue with the first pair I received (open coil neck pickup), but in typical Sweetwater fashion, a replacement set was sent immediately. Air-shipped, like I was Eric Clapton or something. They treat all customers like rock stars. The second set sounds AWESOME in my first partscaster. Super happy with the purchase. Thanks Alex & team!
FANTASTIC Vintage Sound!
For the PRICE, these pickups are REMARKABLE. I owned a 69 tele..sold it after 20 years of playing it...and MISSED that sound. These pickups are DEFINITELY within the ballpark - for $! Wow! I'm REALLY happy!
what I've been looking for
I've been searching for a classic Tele sound but not too pokey. These are it. Full and clear at the same time. I swear, These pickups with a mkii tone bender will give you live 68-69 Zeppelin tones.
Quality Telecaster Pickups
I acquired a Japanese made telecaster a few years back. The guitar is built incredibly well, but the pickups left a bit to be desired. This set fixed the problem completely. They sound great and they don't break the bank. A solid, vintage sounding pickup set. If your pickups are lacking, and your telecaster has a rosewood fingerboard, get these!
Sweetwater Service made this a deal
I've been going around and around with selecting a pickup for a build I"m doing. I can't express how amazed I am with the Sweetwater Tech team and my main contact (Alex). After many phone calls and emails and one product returned, I feel like I have a set that will work to my expectations. My only complaint is with Fed Ex and I will never use that service again. My return went from Florida to Ohio where they changed to mailing label. Then back to Florida and then to northern Indiana. Thankfully, Sweetwater gives you a choice of delivery vendors for returns. I just picked that wrong one.
Thanks again to Alex for helping me sort out this mess.
Great vintage tones
I was looking for a vintage vibe out of my tele pickups and Fender pickups fit the bill. Neck pickup is well balanced and has that warm tone that I was seeking. The bridge pickup is bright but not brittle I was able to nail that Bakersfield fairly easy
Pay attention to your fretboard radius
Not sure how they sound
Got them for a tele copy. My bad, I didn't pay attention to the pole height. I'm sure if you're under a 10" radius you're fine. My project has a 13.7" radius so these will not functionally work. 10" or better radius consider Tex Mex or Yosemite or something with flat pole pieces.
Excellent pickups
These pickups far exceeded my expectations. I put these in my Squier Affinity Telecaster along with a new wiring harness and I'm blown away. Bright sound but also sound great with the tone rolled back. Had to open the hole up some on the pick guard but that only took about 2 minutes with a file. I highly recommend these pickups.
20 year extreme beginner with devout micro following
In my subjective opinion the neck pickup is amazing and the bridge pickup is underwhelming. Something about the 7.4K neck really sings. It sounds to my ears like a Nocaster pup with a little more treble added back in. It's very bell like and instantly charming.
The bridge pickup is 6K so a noticeable dropoff in output. To me, this sound isn't really usable. Maybe it's for somebody but not for me. If you are a Telecaster historian and have to have this period correct sound where the bridge has far less output than the neck then go for it. For me I had to mix and match. Kept the neck but changed out the bridge for something with more grunt, twang, and output. Hope this helps.
These are Great Pickups
Easy to replace in my Squier Bullet Telecaster. I really enjoy the sound difference from the stock. Nice and twangy in the bridge and smooth in the neck. Very cool vintage look to the bridge pickup.
vintage 64 telecaster pickups
excellent with that vintage twang on bridge and smooth tones on neck bridge, great pickups with a light aged look,
Fender Pure Vintage '64 Telecaster Pickup Set
I went through several other pickup sets before trying these pickups that I got from Sweetwater. For me, they sound great. Plugged into either my Princeton or Deluxe amps. Treble 7-8 Bass 3-3.5 on the amps. Roll the tone control on the guitar back until you are happy. I am using the Fender Pure Vintage Wax Paper Capacitor .05 uf @ 150v that I had Sweetwater get for me from Fender. If you have NOT yet learned to NOT turn your tone control all the way up on the guitar you will not like these pickups. If you know the secret you will love them. Try pickup selection 2 (both pickups), turn your treble up and bass down on your amp, adjust the tone on the guitar to your liking and hear the magic. I would recommend these pickups.
‘64 Tele Pups
I am so anticipated mine are due to arrive in a few days But from what I understand Jimmy Page has these in the original form in his Brown Telecaster go figure
Attack of the Twang!
I wanted to give this pickup set an honest try since I love the '52 original set so much, so I threw them in a tele I had open. I honestly thought they may be too twangy and treble oriented when I ordered them, but I was pleasantly surprised. Don't get me wrong, they will brighten up any dark tele you happen to have, but they aren't the kind of pickup set that requires its own EQ pedal setup. I'd say if you're into those bright 60's tones and you're not afraid of the power of the twang, these pickups are a great way to upgrade any tele with some vintage bite.
Great Pickups!!!
Don't let the price fool you on these. You don't need to spend $250 and up for a quality set of pickups. They may not be made in small batches by a company with a "secret winding pattern" but these sound really great. The neck is transparent and clear with great definition of notes. The bridge will twang and is easily tamed by that thing on your guitar called the tone knob. Not too bright and has great harmonics with some OD! I would definitely buy these again.
Not what I expected
I bought this to replace the pickups in my Squier Affinity, especially the neck pickup which sounds muddy.
The neck pickup sounds way better than my current one, but the bridge pickup was disappointing. On the package itself, it shows that the treble is EQ'd a bit lower than the mid and bass so I guess it's doing what it's supposed to, but it's not giving me the bright twang I'm looking for.
