Matched Fender Yosemite Bass Pickup Set with Precision Split Single-coil and Jazz Bass Single-coil

Whether you're recording direct in the studio or plugged into a massive tube amp stack onstage, enough can't be said about the usefulness of playing a bass with a versatile P/J pickup configuration. This matched pickup set includes a Precision Bass split single-coil pickup and a Jazz Bass single-coil pickup. Bassists and engineers at Sweetwater know that there's nothing like the fat, punchy sound of a P Bass pickup. It sits in a track like nobody's business. And being able to dial in the perfect amount of growl from a J Bass bridge pickup is nothing short of tonal nirvana. Get the best of both worlds, with the Fender Yosemite P/J Pickup Set

Great, basic benuine Fender pickup

By Roland from Green Valley, AZ
Music Background: New to bass playing

A really solid pickup for the money. Fits right in place of the original, active pickups that came on my 1991 Prodighy bass. Rebuilt my baby using these as Ibwanted to keep her all Fender. Even the pa jaging is beautiful. Attached he'd a picture.

Very high end modern sounding if that's your mojo

By Pierre from Cary
Music Background: Experienced

These come factory stock on American Player Precision bass.

They P actually sounds very good, has a huge bottom, is slightly scooped in the mids and goes far beyond in high frequencies then I was expecting. It kind of has the shimmering/sizzling of an high end active bass while keeping the vibes of a passive one. That's probably why the American Player basses come with a greasebucket tone control, to mitigate this high end shimmering while trying to keep some high mids. It gives you the top end of Greateful dead or Moes. Not bad. However this kind of top end works best on clean signal but sounds bad with drive or distortion. It's like a guitar, to sound good with distortion, you need pickup or strings that limit the top end otherwise added top end harmonics ruins the tone.

They bridge jazz pickup ... well ... is a bridge jazz pickup. Same high end tone (kind of) and sounds good by itself but does not blend well with the neck pickup since it's too week and lower the overall volume way more then it would on a Jazz Bass.

Also they claim you can get Jaco Pastorius tone with these using the greasebucket tone control but ... no you can't. The greasebucket, even though I love it, does not allow you to dial vintage tone from these Yosemite pickups. If you want Jaco tone, use am American STD Jazz bass with Vintage pickups that don't have too much top end.

I could use Yosemite pickups but not on my main axes. I would use them occasionally on modern tunes. They don't work best on classic rock with tube amps grits, however they are wonderful on clean signal path.

Great upgrade!

By Dana L. from TN
Music Background: Guitar primary instrument (48 years); Musical director for Grammy Winning Gospel Artist, CeCe Winans; Adjunct Professor of Commercial Music at Middle Tennesee State University; Composer, Arranger and Producer of marketing theme song for Tokyo Disney.

I'm grateful Josh recommend these pickups. They are clean, even and punchy. Installed them in an Ibanez Mikro Bass (purchased from Sweetwater) and the difference was night and day. My friend who installed the pickups has 10 bass guitars and was amazed at the clarity and punch. Thanks Josh!

Must ground all pots.

By kim from California

Hi all gearheads. The Fender Yosemite P/J Pickup Set is great. But the wiring diagram for older bass is not correct. You must ground all pots with a command ground including the tone knob. Have fun.

Thumbs Up

By Eric from Buford, GA
Music Background: Have played for 35 years. No professional experience, but play along with songs I like.

Bought the Yosemite Bass Pickups to replace my MIM Fender Deluxe PJ Bass' Pickups which had issues with level, noise and muddiness at one frequency when another frequency was dialed in. During installation found out that the circuit was not a 1 for 1 replacement for the existing pickups circuit. Had to buy a .1uf capacitor, easy enough and then follow the great wiring diagram that comes along with the pickups. It was not difficult, just different. Okay, so finished installation and pickup height adjustment, plugged the bass into my favorite Ampeg Amp, and it was just great. The bass' was cleaner, more consistent across frequencies, and livelier. I had previously never had any luck getting a useful tone out of my bridge pickup, this one has an aggressive, funky slap kind of tone, and was also useful in flavoring P-pickups tone. I definitely got the tones that I was looking for, I do still have some noise, but its good noise and I feel that I couldn't have done better. I am happy with my purchase and will recommend these to friends without any hesitation.
