Worth It

By Sweetwater Customer

I picked up a Fender Player II Jazz Bass a few weeks ago - great value bass that checked all of my boxes without costing an arm and a leg. Pickups were a little noisy and just didn't sound super full or inspiring. These pickups made a world of different and now that bass punches well above it's weight IMHO.

WOW

By William B. from Collinsville, MS

Installed these in a squire 70 jazz. The first time I play at church it was like playing a different instrument. I couldn't believe how much of a difference these pickups made.

Upgraded MIM Fender

By Jason from Portland, OR

Dropped these into a Mexican made Fender. Updated the bridge as well. I've compared it side by side with American mades. It holds up and is almost impossible to tell apart. If you have an old bass that you want sounding magic, throw these in it!

The Bottom End I Was Searching For

By Christopher K. from Columbia, SC
Music Background: Blues / Rock / Rhythm / Funk

In searching for "my sound" when it comes to playing bass, I took a few factors into consideration when asking myself the question "Who can provide me a means (the right pickups) to my end (the right sound)?" As a Fender fanatic, I naturally considered their offerings as well as those of Lace Music and Seymour Duncan. I was in search of a heavy-bottom, high-output, slap-friendly set of pickups that could provide those characteristics with a vintage vibe. I have a set of Lace Music Man 'O' War Jazz Bass Sensors in a bass I already own; I wasn't looking to reproduce that sound. Seymour Duncan's offerings are nice, but didn't quite hit on the right acoustic and aesthetic notes for me. So, back to Fender we go. Why the Custom Shop 60's Jazz Bass Set? They provide satisfactory levels of output. They follow vintage designs with extra coil windings. They've produce that rumble I was looking for. They sound pretty incredible. Blues, rock, rhythm, funk...these pickups handle any playing style I throw at them and probably anything anybody with a vintage vibe will throw at them. Highly recommended!

Holy hot rods Batman

By Stuart from New England

Gather round folks and listen up these things are amazing, period full stop. Wow just wow. Aaron suggested these as an upgrade along with the Emerson prewired kit for my Squire VM Jazz nick named Blondie. Ordered them up and once I decided I didn"t want to take a chance at screwing up the install I took them over to the local vintage shop and left it in Dugal"s capable hands. Couple hours later I pick it up and he warned "it might be a little louder". Yeah Dugal, kind of an understatement there on your part. Kind of like Sundance Kid asking "Think you used enough dynamite there Butch?"

Hugely more responsive than what I thought were good sounding stock pick ups. Much better tonal range from top to bottom, in both neck and bridge pickups. Cant find a muddy sound across the range and had to change amp settings to bring back the "thumpiness" I like for blues.

I will in all likelihood never be a better player than this bass with this combo/setup installed can do and really really doubt I would be able to tell the difference between this and a 2K plus buck instrument.

Buy this pair now and dont look back or worry about the cost.

Awesome Replacement Pickups

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: 5 years

These pickups gave new life to my MIM Fender Jazz Bass. I also paired the pickups with the Emerson Prewire kit. I love the tone I'm now getting. Was a pretty easy upgrade as well, I checked out a few YouTube videos got some solder and made the swap myself. This is a great way to get a custom shop high quality sound/tone for cheap. Highly Recommend!

Great Pickup

By John B. from Texas

I swapped out the pickups in my 09 Fender MIA with the Custom Shop 60's and used the Emerson Prewire Kit to replace the electronics and man what a difference. It's like my bass came to life and had this great versatile tone. I can't recommend this combination upgrade enough. These pickup are good for any genre of music. The Custom Shop 60's are a little more expensive then some but there is a reason for that...
Its worth it!
I highly recommend the Custom Shop 60's with the Emerson Prewire Kit if your looking for tone versatility and to cut through the mix at rehearsal and live performances.

Fantastic Pickups

By Greg from Oxford, MS
Music Background: 35 years

This is my second set of Custom 60's Jazz bass pickups. I have many Jazz basses including Fender Custom shop basses. I chose this set for a personal build project after listening to several sets. The custom 60's are on the hotter side. I don't think of them as vintage at all. They produce a very full musical sound. The tone is round and clear as a bell, but can really growl with the tone rolled off.

The Jazz bass I built using Warmoth parts is probably the best sounding bass that I own. I think a lot of that is this set of pickups. Great sound when both are played together with full tone. The bridge pickup with the tone rolled off is just amazing, Jaco midrange punch and growl.

I also found a Squire Jazz that I just loved the neck and body on. It was used and very cheap. I replaced the pots and wiring, and chose these pickups again. Now it is a fantastic Jazz bass!!
Highly recommended pickups.

Alright, so these are great.

By Kendal from Tulsa, OK
Music Background: Recording Engineer, Musician

My session bassist plays a 60s P-Bass and he was raving about how it's magic, how it can fit into any mix, work in any genre, and we talked about the fact that it could be the pickups from days of old. At the studio I've got an American Jazz bass, so I figured hey, why not. I searched ebay for some vintage ones, but eventually I just said hey why not try the Custom Shop pickups.

WOW! These pickups brought my bass to a different level. For under $200, this is one of the best upgrades you can make for your bass, be it a MIM or American. The pickups seem to add more clarity, brightness, and maybe even some sustain - hotter output than my stock American pickups and WAY less "tubby" on the bottom. Pair these pickups with some D'Addario or Ken Smith strings and you'll have a wicked sounding bass.

Some may argue that having bright pickups is a bad thing - as these pickups are somewhat bright. I beg to differ! You have a tone knob for a reason. You might as well get a really bright, clear, crisp, clean bass tone, and roll off the highs that you don't need. It doesn't make sense to use a DI or Amp to add synthetic high end. Get it right at the source, and get these pickups!
