You also get a push-pull that toggles between series and parallel pickup wiring, providing access to a multitude of mind-bending tones. The easy playability of the PT Special’s satin-finished, rosewood-capped maple neck and top-shelf hardware, including Grover Vintage tuners put the finishing touches on the PT Special.

Forget best for money this is best of all

By Daniel Stewart from Fort Worth, TX on April 19, 2023

I love this tele clone. Has the best sound of any t style guitar. It
s the funnest to play if your not used to thinner smooth fast schecter necks you will be. This is my first schecter and I'm a schecter guy now there's just something about it. The mod choices are endless but it sounds great with the stock pickups....I love guitars that are less than a certain price and this is the best one under a certain price. Don't be nervous to get schecter everyone should own at least one schecter let it be this one.

Lots of guitar for the money !

So I have had the guitar for a couple of weeks, As always I am very impressed with the quality of schecter guitars

Better than I hoped for

By Bobby from TX on April 6, 2022 Music Background: Just like to play. Don't gig. Like to work on guitars

I have been playing this wonderful guitar for 6 months now. Every time I pick up this beauty (pearl black) I am more impressed. The quality of this guitar is superb. The neck is like butter I especially like the jumbo frets which are great for slides. The neck is a bit slimmer than I usually like but is a great neck/fretboard. The tuners hold tune better than some replacement tuners. It arrived in perfect set up. Even the intonation was almost perfect on every string. The pickups are a beautiful combination. I especially like the P-90 in the neck which is one of the main reasons I purchased this guitar. I can't stand the shrill icepick sound of the fender Tele. The P-90 is warm and can be versatile with tones with the push/pull series/parallel feature. Lots of great tone. With the bridge you can get the traditional tele tone but so much more tonal variations. I love this guitar and this is the second Schecter I have purchased (still have both) the company provides much value especially in the Diamond series (lower price point) I have purchased 4 Fenders (two teles) 3 of which I returned because they just did not have the tone and playability of the Schecter. I just ordered another Schecter guitar because of the quality. I play mostly blues/rock/some country blues. I highly recommend this guitar.

I'm loving it

Great one....one of those finds, ya know?

By Craig Flowers from Maine on June 25, 2020 Music Background: 35 years of guitar playing

Jeez, how did this one slip under my radar for so long? INSTANT favorite from the second I plugged it in.
This one is very well appointed and has a very striking look to it between the chorme hardware and the pearl-black finish.
The pickups are pretty good for stock, although I will certainly upgrade them both in the near future. The push-pull is a nice to have, and it is very cool to line up the pickups in series
Very happy with this one - I hope they will offer more colors and options in the future.

Very good and for the money excellent

By Kelly Johnson from AURORA, CO on July 20, 2020 Music Background: Former cover band player turned home hobbyist

I recently purchased the black pt special and am very pleased with it. Sounds great and is under 7lbs which is important to this arthritic old guy.
The frets are a little bigger than I'm used to but I am growing to like them. I'm a long time tele player and this guitar gets you most of the way "there".
Negatives would be the vintage style bridge. Nothing wrong with it but I prefer a modern individual saddle style. Since schecter makes guitars with that style, I assumed I could just purchase one but neither schecter nor sweetwater were of any assistance, sadly.
I am also not crazy about the p90 but since I don't use the front pu on either of my American Standard teles it doesn't effect me. I just don't like any front tele pups.
So for the money I say it's excellent. Mim teles can't compete unless you find one close to as lightweight. Everyone I have owned has been over 8lbs. My ash am std weighs less than the schecter and is my number one but the pt special is a very worthy backup.
I love the arm carve. Fender should offer this.
Thanks

Great Alternative to the Tele

By Don Munson from Charlotte, NC on June 12, 2020 Music Background: 60+ years, semi-professional

This is my first Schecter, and I'm very pleased with the guitar. Fit and finish are top grade, equal to any that I own. The fingerboard edges are rather sharp, but not difficult to get used to. Most of my guitars have rolled edged fingerboards, so I've been spoiled in that area. That rosewood board is nice and dark and fretted almost perfectly. I was able to get a nice low action with very little effort.
My only gripe is that the P90 can't be height adjusted. Fortunetely, adjusting the pole pieces has been sufficient to get the sound and ballance across the neck that I was looking for. The finish on the swamp ask body is very thin and lets you enjoy the feel and sound of the open grain of the wood. The guitar offers a variety of great tones that will keep me playing hours on end. So, all in all, it's professional grade and a great addition to my collection.

Better than expected (but QC issues)

By K. Porche from Tennessee on May 9, 2022 Music Background: Lots of years...

Recently received my 2nd Pt-Special from Sweetwater. Had to return the 1st one because the neck/bridge alignment was off. Due to supply chain issues it took a minute to get the replacement(understandable), but I got the 2nd one in and it plays, sounds and looks great. Perfectly setup as well. The neck carve near the nut is a little different than first (less pronounced "V") for some reason but it still feels great and the binding on the neck had a smoother transition to the wood than the first. However the poly on the back of the neck had weird ridges like someone grabbed it while it was still wet or had put it down on something that "crinkled" the finish.I dragged a pick across the worst two spots and it flaked down to the bare wood. I ended up sanding the neck with 1000 grit to smooth those two spots and a half dozen or so others. Now it's real nice. The bare spots bother me a little so I will probably touch them up later.
As good as Sweetwater was in every other aspect (really was amazed at how simple returning the first guitar was and how well they took care of me) I thought they or Schecter should have caught the issues with the guitars during one of their inspections. Not returning this one though. Really happy with everything else on the guitar. Plays as nice as my Strat, LP and PRS. Holds tuning like a champ as well.

More than I expected

By Kevin Trawick from Arlington, TX on August 15, 2020 Music Background: songwriter, gigger, collector of stuff, guitar player

Really impressed with the looks, the black pearl finish is very classy looking. I appreciate the comfortable fast neck. I've always heard pretty good things about Schecter guitars and now I know why. Classic T-Style aesthetics but under the hood its a hot rod when you put some drive on it. I am equally happy with the Clean tones as well. Being a Les Paul guy, I like the 12" radius fretboard on the PT special as well. My sales guy called and left a msg that they were back in stock, and I ordered it right away. Thanks Ed Needler! Another plus is that this guitar is not made in China! That fact helped make up my mind. I feel like I got a lot of guitar for a great price. The V90 neck Pup is really great sounding and the singles coil in the bridge sounds good with it. However, the bridge Pup by itself is a little weak IMO. But overall I'm totally digging it.
However, he manufacturers part number is 666, so that's kinda spooky.

Loved this guitar but...

By Kevin S from IL on December 22, 2022

Really liked the idea of a t-style guitar with a bound body, neck and old-school brass saddles. Sadly, there appears to be an issue with the bridge placement making intonation nearly impossible. I don't know if this is a QC issue or if a slightly out of whack batch made it out of the factory. Comparing it with a Fender standard tele, bridge placement seems to be almost a quarter inch further back which makes you have to extend the saddles closer to neck. Even then, intonation is barely passable. Which is sad because I REALLY wanted to love this guitar. The good news is that Sweetwater is making it right by allowing me to return it after two weeks of futzing with it. Simply the best customer service I've ever encountered. I will keep my guitar business with them because of this fact alone.

Beware...

By Chad from Wake Forest, NC on May 26, 2022

I was disappointed by this guitar. The bridge pickup sounded good but the neck pickup did not stack up to the p-90 sound I expect. The wood for the neck and the neck binding were not flush. You could feel the ridge between the binding all the way up and down the neck. It was very uncomfortable to play with that ridge. The pickup selector switch was cheap and had quite a bit of lateral movement to the point where when it was in the bridge pickup position it would nearly pop into the middle position on its own. The fret ends were not well finished and would have required quite a bit of work to clean up. To Sweetwater's credit they allowed me to return it without any hassle, but I was disappointed that it passed their 55-point inspection and shipped. This was not up to the quality I expect from a Schecter or this price range. For comparison I have purchased Epiphones and Gretch's in the 500 dollar range that were significantly better quality.

Wish I had skipped this one.

Not all bad. The finish is cool the jumbo frets are good the pickups are ok.
I really like the neck shape and 12" radiused rosewood fretboard.
The tone control had no taper its an on off switch.
The nut is cut way to high making open cords impossible to play in tune.
Both problems are fixable but frustrating.
Now for the odd. The Tele style tailpiece is installed at least a 1/4 inch too far back.
The saddles have to be let out to the ends of the screws to achieve the correct scale length
to try and intonate. I used a Fender Telecaster to make measurement comparisons.
This puts the bridge pickup closer to the bridge making it sound brighter.
The worst part is even after adjusting the nut, setting neck relief and trying grooved compensated saddles the intonation
is worst of the 10 electrics I own and that includes a Telecaster (same bridge and saddles as Schecter) and a $300 Squire.
Purchased from Sweetwater in March 2021.
