Pro Tools Annual Plan
I've been doing the annual plan since it became available, and I'm generally pleased with the results. It's easy during the year to keep updated with new versions of PT. In my experience the renewal is actually more difficult (convoluted) than the original sign-up. I usually manage 3-4 accounts, and in some cases it's just been easier to let the old expire and begin a new account. I would also add that I don't really rely on Avid support unless I have to, instead turning to Sweetwater's excellent tech support on the rare occasion of a problem (1-2 times a year). I know an annual plan isn't for everyone, but I like the fact that it's a one-time a year known expense, and I don't have upgrade costs popping up randomly. I urge users to get on the Pro Tools forum for new features, and vote. I hear rumors we may be getting close to an end of the iLok!
Pro Tools Renewal
I agree with Greg Mackender. The Avid support experience is really not awesome and having to go through this renewal process every year is way harder than it needs to be. I mean Pro Tools works fine but why make me jump through hoops to be a customer. By the way, Sweetwater's customer service has always been excellent. Just sayn.
