MORE BEAUTIFUL IN PERSON

By Mark King from Beautiful Melbourne Florida on August 25, 2019 Music Background: Professional Engineer

The Desert Sky is my fifth Jackson instrument and it's so much more beautiful in person than it is on the Sweetwater web site. Everyone who sees this guitar in my studio says WOW, the quilted maple top looks amazing.

Not only is it a gorgeous guitar, it plays like a dream. All three of my Jackson Guitars share a similar wide and thin neck that plays fast all the way up to the 24th fret. This one did not disappoint, right out of the box it plays nice all up and down the ebony fingerboard.

The Seymour Duncan humbuckers have a nice bright tone and you'd never mistake them for high output considering how bright they sound. The locking tuners are super smooth and the single volume and tone control delivers incredible sound quality. The binding around the top of the guitar looks great too.

I bought this guitar during Yellow Tag Clearance so it was priced really right thanks to Jim Swain my amazing Sweetwater Sales Engineer.

Overall I could not be happier about this guitar purchase, great price and killer instrument.

Good music to all!

Awesome Shred Machine

I had my eye on this guitar for some time now. Things I especially like are the bound body, compound radius fingerboard, 24 fret neck through the body, Seymour Duncan humbuckers and the gorgeous quilted maple top. It looks even more beautiful in person. Locking tuners and strap locks complete the package and live up to the Pro name moniker.

This is my second Jackson Solist model, my blue one has the Floyd Rose trem system on it, I chose this one specifically because I wanted a hard tail. It came out of the box in excellent playing condition, low action, no fretting out.

If I had to complain I'd say the pickup selector switch is a bit on the cheap side and it had a tiny hint of noise when changing pickups. I hit it with a quick shot of spray Cramolin R-5, problem solved.

I had talked myself out of buying this guitar, then Sweetwater goes and puts it on Yellow Tag Clearance. It worked, they cleared one out my direction.

This is a Super Strat incarnate, high output pickups (ceramic SD models) and super sweet neck. This guitar sounds amazing clean and through the heaviest of heavy metal pedals.

Interested in a Super Strat? Buy this one (or the one with the Floyd, they're both awesome).

Good music to all!

Alot of great features for the price.

I'm just getting around to reviewing the Jackson SL2Q Mah Pro Series guitar I bought. One of the reasons I purchased it, was it's overall features, body wood, and playability. But there is much more to this special guitar. Right out of the box you notice the finish is dazzing. Yes it gets alot of compliments. Other guitarist ask me "Where did you get that guitar?" I've gotten compliments from MIM Strats before, but this guitar is definitely eye catching. But the main reason I bought this guitar was an upgrade in body wood. I purchased the Ibanez RGRT621DPB last year. It comes with Tone Zone/Air Neck combo. I really loved that pick up combo for singy leads, rock riffs, chugg. It could do metal, hard rock, rock with ease. The body wood of the RGRT was Naytoh. It lacks any real tone, and the body woods tone really doesn't add to the quality of the notes. The fretboard was Jatobah. While it wasn't bad, it also didn't add to the tone that much. Alot of guitar builder list Jatobah as wood that does not have a pleasing tone.

Ibby has been using this combo on it's mid priced RGRT for a couple of years. You have to pay upwards of $1000 or more before you can get an Ibby with solid wood and real Mahogany.

Enter the Jackson SL2Q Mah Pro Series. This baby touts a long list of great features like a body made of real Mahogany (solid not layered), locking tuners, ebony fret board ( a go to for all metal players), a dazzling maple top that adds to the high quality tone, through body construction for extra sustain, Duncan Distortion one of the more love metal and rock pick ups in the rock biz.

One of the firs thing I loved about this guitar was that it plays so nicely. Open chords on a high gain channel are crisp, clean and strong. Guitar solos on high gain settings with delay play smoothly, have alot of feel, and very touch dynamic.

Amazingly cleans on the neck position have a single pickup pick accuracy and you can get away with having a humbucker to do your modern rock cleans, for a professional setting such as live performance, recording songs for an album, demos.

This guitar is definitely a professional grade guitar and really isn't necessary for beginners considering it costs about three times the price of a used MIM strat.

I'm a professional guitarist and use this guitar for rehearsals, live gigs and recording.

I play hard rock, nu metal, metal pop, and heartland rock for my band and solo albums and this guitar can do it all.

I ain't knocking Ibby because the RGRT621DPB really is a kick butt guitar. But I wanted just a little more tone from my live concerts and albums and foudn it with the Jackson SL2Q Mah Pro Series.

Why the plastic nut?

By Sweetwater Customer on June 21, 2021

Great looking guitar. Plays decent but, a guitar at this price range should not come with a plastic nut! Guess i'll have to upgrade to a Tusq nut for tuning stability! love the look & the pups!!
