JBL PRX912 12-inch Powered Loudspeaker Reviews

12" 2-way Active PA Speaker with DSP, 12-band EQ, and Remote Operation

JBL 900-series powered loudspeakers offer strong core performance with an assertive set of features for customization and remote control! These potent loudspeakers are ideal for DJs, emcees, bands, venues, houses of worship, corporate audio, and many more applications. Each speaker features a 2-way design paired with top-notch Class D amplifiers for consistent audio that holds its clarity, even with the volume dimed. JBL's 900-series speakers also feature an onboard LCD screen with hardware controls, but Sweetwater audio engineers are big fans of pairing them with the JBL Pro Connect app for remote control, speaker snapshots, and faster workflows. Whichever route you choose, these speakers are infinitely tweakable, with a 12-band parametric EQ, immaculate DSP, and other clarity tools like automatic feedback suppression. The icing on the cake is a heavy-duty construction that’s set for years of gigs, courtesy of a 7-year manufacturer warranty backed by JBL!

A great PA speaker

By NS

Overall, these are light enough to transport by hand and install on stands easily, and they sound really crisp and clear. There's plenty of bass on tap for most gigs and can easily support small to medium sized venues (depending on your needs, of course you might want to supplement with subs). They retain clarity and balance even at max volume, which is very loud. Through two walls and about 100 feet away, the sound was still great. I think for most venues where a live act or DJ would be performing, just a pair of these would sound good, but supplement as you see fit.

Just a couple notes: Bluetooth is for remote control only, no audio playback. The built in features are all accessible on the back panel, but the app does a great job from typical bar distances from mix to stage. The EQ is actually very responsive and customizable.

If I had to nitpick, you can use a mic directly with this but the gain on tap is pretty light so I found dynamic mics felt quiet. You will want a mixer or other device to get a line output into the channels provided.

So far no complaints, but time will tell. Hopefully these can provide years of service.

Sell all your other PAs

By Sweetwater Customer

I rarely write product reviews, but I feel like I needed to share my experience with these. I am a small-scale mobile DJ and I was in the market for a new set of PAs to replace my previous generation Mackie Thump 15's. I have always been a fan of JBL; I have a Charge 6, Partybox 110, and my car has JBL speakers, so I figured I'd give these a try. These JBLs leave my Mackies in the DUST. The clarity that I am getting on these at high volume is excellent with little to no distortion. I don't even know what the limiter light looks like because I've never seen it kick in yet. Plenty of headroom for all of the applications I use them in. I have played for crowds as small as 50 and as large as 600 (although I recommend a bigger system for those crowds, these can get the job done). The app is a nice feature to have, I normally don't run an external mixer when I DJ unless I have more than 2 mics, so having the 12-band parametric EQ and gain control right on my phone is game changing to me. I can walk around the room and adjust the EQ to really make these units sound good in every room that I play in. A pro tip for these is to leave the master all the way up and adjust channel volume to get the most sound out of the unit. Otherwise, you don't get a ton of volume. Overall, super satisfied with my purchase. They look professional, they sound professional, and most importantly, it all fits in the back of my car with plenty of room to spare. Kudos JBL!

Better than the K12.2!

By Dave B. from Lansing, MI
Music Background: Sound guy/DJ/karaoke

A band I run sound for uses QSC K12.2 tops, and these sound better! More natural sounding flatter response, and get loud while maintaining that sweet sound. They don't go very deep (weren't designed to), which at first kind of disappointed me (they had less bass than my Alto TS312's). But then I tried high-passing at 45hz, and bumping up around 60hz. There it was! Nice chest-hitting bass, while maintaining clarity. Paired with a couple of 18 inch subs, these things are amazing! Plenty of power! My main PA tops for running sound for bands are SRX812p's, and these can't touch those (the SRX812p's are BEASTS). But they are now my go-tos for karaoke/small parties, and weddings (with PRX918XLF subs). The bluetooth app control is neat, but usually just set them flat at 0dB unity gain, and either use my Driverack PA2 and/or my mixer to handle all the crossover/EQ work.

JBL PRX912

By Bill B. from Wittmann, Arizona
Music Background: Sound Engineer and Musician

Another great sounding JBL Speaker. I love all 14 of my PRX Series and this is even better then my 710 and 712's.
I like the idea of the JBL Connect app, but did have a problem connecting to one 912 speaker during an event. Had to reset the speaker and update the firmware during the event. I should have tested it before the event. Otherwise, it's amazing.

ZERO regrets!

By John from Michigan

I was using JBL EON 615's and constantly battling with them and my system to get a great/better sound without the feedback monster creeping up quickly. Had these speakers for years. Bought them new. So after much consideration I decided to get new speakers. So in comes the PRX 912's. When I got them home, I immediately connected them. Didn't change anything on my board (studiolive 32s) got it all up and running. The test run happened and BAM!! A complete night and day difference!! The only change was the speakers. Absolutely love them! ZERO regrets!! What a difference.

You're not going to believe your ears

By Nick from Grand Rapids, MI
Music Background: DJ Knuckles Up

These powered loudspeakers are just absolutely amazing. I cannot believe how clear they play at high volumes. A lot of loudspeakers start to cut the bass and sub bass a lot approaching 60% and higher, not these. They just power through. I haven't had a single issue getting these setup and running just right. The app really makes tuning them for the room you're in a breeze. I highly recommend these loudspeakers for your mobile or mounted system.

Also shout-out to Mike Johnson for pointing me towards these speakers. His knowledge and professionalism allowed me to make the right choice for my setup.
