JBL PRX715: Plenty of Power, Lots of Lows

By Jay from Des Moines on February 5, 2016

I am a solo artist (guitar/piano/vocals) and for smaller gigs I use a Bose L1 Model II with the B2 Sub. When I play a larger venue or a larger outdoor gig, I add 2 of these PRX715s to the Bose system. I used to use EON 515's for this, but these are doing a much better job. I get tons of compliments on my sound, and it's not too much to haul around. I've read some reviews that the PRX715s have too much midrange, but I have not experienced this at all. (If you are having this problem, maybe it's time to ditch the SM58s and try some different mics!) Anyway, great speakers and their build quality has me confident they will sound great for a long time.

Game changer

The versatility these powered speakers gave us has ben fantastic. Sweetening the house sound on DJ noghts, using them as PA and monitors when we are off the stage, and knowing we have backup if a band demands a million wedges have made life easier here many tomes in the short time we've had these dependable, great sounding speakers here.

Powerful, Clean and Light

By Paul from Atlanta on July 27, 2015

The JBL PRX715 powered speakers have not only simplified my PA system, these speakers sound so much more clean and powerful. Carrying heavy passive 15" speakers, the power amps and cabling took the joy out of playing out. Now these speakers give me studio quality sound at my home studio and pack a punch at gigs. They are easy for one person to lift and carry which was not the case with my passive speakers. Simple to hook up and set up without having to do a deep dive into a manual.

What a bargain!

Had a chance to demo these the other day. They are stellar... The top end is very clear and detailed while the lows definitely pack a wallop at close range. The box takes EQ pretty well, too. Also.. they are still very light for the amount of output. I tested them out as wedges and was really impressed.unlike the 600 series... they actually cut the angle at a usable slant for tight spaces. Also, the addition of a second input is very handy in case you wanted to use one for a practice wedge for rehearsals. I only have one complaint/suggestion... I wish they would give you the option to set the front LED to show limiting so you can see if you're clipping from a FOH mix position. But overall this is an amazing box for the price.

Good overall

By Wayne Lee from Charleston, SC on May 16, 2014 Music Background: Franchise Owner for DJ / Wedding Services

I had wanted a higher quality / wattage powered speaker set for our DJ company. We have a few sets of Mackey Thumps, which do a good job and are reasonably priced. After being recommended from the salesperson and purchasing this JBL model, and using a few times ,they have a nice, very full sound at low to mid volumes, but sound somewhat distorted when pushed louder. The pole mounts on the bottom (there's an angled option, which I haven't used, and the regular 'straight up') are sized in between the two options on our Ultimate Support stands - meaning, on the smaller setting, the speakers are not tight fitting (are leaning / a little bit wobbly), and the larger setting is too big to fit in. The weight is very reasonable, easy to lift / set up. When I purchased, I also didn't realize the odd cabinet shape (am more a fan of symmetrical), but that's not a big issue. Overall, I am mostly satisfied, but for the price, am also somewhat disappointed.

Not Sold on The Latest And Greatest

The problem I have with the JBL PRX716 is the noise produced by thr delf cooling fans. I owned the 615's, and I loved those speakers. When you turn the 715's on, they are silent, and than the fans come on and almost sound as if they are being amplified by the speaker. Once you crank them and are playing, it is not that noticeable. I am considering going to another vendor to see if there speakers make the same noise, or if it is just the pair I received.
