JBL PRX412M 1200W 12 inch Passive Speaker Reviews

12", 2-way Passive PA Speaker with 600-watt RMS Power Handling, Hardwood Construction, DuraFlex Coating, and SonicGuard HF-Driver Protection (ea)

The JBL PRX412M passive loudspeaker is based on the same design as its powered brethren in the PRX600 Series, bringing you robust full-range performance that's ideal for clubs, schools, and houses of worship. The PRX412M is a 12" passive loudspeaker that delivers the kind of performance demanded by rock, pop, hip hop, and many other modern genres, and it's equally as capable as a floor monitor as it is as a main speaker. If you're looking for loudspeakers with plenty of punch, impact, and presence, JBL PRX412M passive loudspeakers are perfect for you.

Great Speakers IMHO

By Steve from Oceanside, CA on March 6, 2024 Music Background: Band leader, guitar player, singer, sound engineer.

I purchased these in September 2021 and have used them a lot for gigs, actually most of them now. I mic everything onstage and they work very good. They were on sale when I got them and I'm glad I jumped on it. I really like and recommend them. I use them for almost all of the indoor gigs and some of the outdoor gigs. They have good low end excursion for a 12 inch speaker and sound smooth/pleasant as well.

JBL High Quality Standards

By Chris J from Somewhere in the Midwest of the USA on May 7, 2022 Music Background: Semi pro weekend warrior.

I recently purchased one of these to replace my long time floor monitor from the JRX series. I'm blown away by the clarity and punch offered by the PRX412M. I play in a trio and we use drum tracks instead of a live drummer (I know I know) and the track needs to be clear and crisp especially in a crowded loud bar setting. The PRX more than delivers! I can easily hear not only the drum tracks clearly, but guitars and vocals are clear as a bell and the separation is easy to hear.

I guess I'm not surprised that JBL has massively improved the classic JRX (which is an excellent line and has served me well for 15 years). Because we still use a powered mixer we have yet to require powered speakers. This passive 12" more than fills the bill for now. Highly recommended!

Best Passive Monitors For The $$$

By Sweetwater Customer from Northern, WI on January 3, 2019 Music Background: Live Sound Engineer

I own a live sound and lighting company that provides services for crowds of up to 700 people (so far). Recently I was on the search for some new passive wedges replace ones that I had been using for the past 7 years that were definitely showing their age.

In a world where there are less and less passive boxes on the market I found my choices where quite limited. The main factors I was weighing was size, weight, sound quality and cost. I also wanted some cabinets that could double as a light/medium duty PA speakers if needed.

At first I ordered some non powered EV ZLX12's based on reviews I read. I got them and played back a couple tunes... I knew within 30 seconds that they wouldn't work for me. To my trained ears the highs and mids were very harsh. No way I would feel good about deploying them on one of my stages.

So... I returned the EV's and talked about more options with my sales engineer... we came up with the JBL PRX412M's. They cost a bit more, but I had always had good luck with JBL in the past, so I gave them a whirl.

When I unboxed them I immediately was impressed with the build quality and how light weight they were. Next came the sound... clear highs, clean mids and punchy lows!

The PRX412M's seemed to have all the features that I wanted... but now for the real test... next I used them as stage monitors for a couple of real important shows. The musicians all reported they couple hear everything loud and clear, which was exactly what I wanted to hear.

So... I just bought another one today... only two more before I have the eight I need for my big summer shows!

If you are looking for a quality passive light weight stage monitor/PA speaker look no further... definitely worth the $$$.

I would like to than my sales engineer Kent Sallaz at Sweetwater for being patient with me and helping get the right gear to help me grow my business!!!

JBL PRX412

By Mike H. from Dallas, Pa on December 10, 2015

These speakers can really handle the work load. I play in a duo with drums and bass guitar background. I had to play a private party in a huge room. I forgot my low end speakers so I was ready for a night of bad sound. These speakers really cut it. Very light to carry. I push it with a Yamaha mixer, 8Ch. 500 a side.

These speakers are a wonderful addition to my sound system.Quality craftsmanship from the construction of the cabinets to the inner workings of the speakers electronics. They work well for mains or monitors with a very robust sound.

Great stage monitors

By Timothy Blount from Newton, Iowa USA on December 8, 2023

Bought four of these to use as stage monitors in a theatre. Great sound coverage and the actors are SO happy! And efficient enough we can drive all four easily using just one amplifier in a 2-channel 4-ohm configuration.

By dave carter from little rock on August 26, 2018

These speakers were installed above the stage in our church in 2015, They have been great speakers but as the band and church grew, they are reaching max potential. Have done real well, and will upgrade to the srx812 at earliest possible time.
