PRS Rechargeable Clip-on Headstock Tuner
PRS Rechargeable Clip-on Headstock Tuner Reviews
Stay in tune easily and in style with the PRS Clip-On Tuner. This stage-ready tuner showcases the classic Coopers Hawk found on the 12th fret inlay of PRS guitars. It features an easy-to-read LCD strobe display and no-slip rubber clips, guaranteeing it will stay in place. Here at Sweetwater, we love the fact that this tuner can be recharged via the included USB cable. The PRS Clip-On Tuner also features four tuning modes — two needle and two strobe — and it can tune basses, acoustic guitars, and ukuleles, in addition to electric guitars.

EXCELLENT TUNER
By far the best tuner ive ever used! only set back is the jaw. Breaks easy, design change for it would be ideal. The tuner itself is bright and accurate.
Poorly made and no support
I have had two of these PRS tuners. Both of them broke at the clamp hinge within a few months even though the tuner normally just stayed on the guitar until it needed to be charged. Also both of them were 10 cents flat when checked against several other tuners including 2 Peterson strobes. I also think it is not user friendly and the various modes are just confusing. Other than the bird appearing when you hit "in-tune" there's nothing to justify buying it. It's just a PRS branded third-party cheap tuner. I messaged PRS support about the two hinge failures and they did not ever respond. I'm actually a fan of PRS and I've had 5 of their guitars-they are fantastic but the overpriced gadgets, meh, not so much.
Cute, hemorrhages battery
Attracted by the bird that shows when you're in tune and the carbon fiber looking case but it is very unreliable as the battery depletes while not in use so you never know if it's going to work when you pop it on. Better off looking elsewhere.
Performs fine, clip is cheap and won’t last long
I had no problems with accuracy and recharge life. Before a gig I would recharge it but at home I could go several days, sometimes more than a week without recharging. I liked the display. My problem is the clip is cheaply made. Mine lasted a few months before breaking. I play an epiphone acoustic and the clip had to open fully to attach to the headstock. And then it broke. Disappointing for a company that built its reputation on quality.
Very poor quality
Just buy a snark, this thing was not worth $.
I've had this tuner and it's easily the most unreliable tuner you can purchase.
Clamp broke + uneasy to read
The Bird takes most of the real estate of the screen for no reason. The clamp is just too small and cheap and broke pretty quickly.
Over a Year of Owning: An Honest Review
When I first bought the PRS tuner I was ecstatic to use what was essentially the first charging clip on tuner. It worked exactly as I expected it to but it did come with its drawbacks. For its entirety it has had to live plugged in to the charger or it would be dead in a matter of hours. Although it lived safely there it somehow managed the find itself destroyed at the hinges despite being carefully loved. It still functions as a tuner but the plastic it is made from is extremely cheap. Not even super glue can fix this considering the tension the spring provides on it.
been playing 40 plus years
nice tuner works great but the clip is not deep enough to get a good fit on most head stocks, prs should have noticed that.
Don’t waste your money
This is the worst clip on tuner I've purchased and I've been through many of them. This will never hold a charge. You will literally have to charge it before any time you choose to use it. I bought a Fender clip on over a year ago and have maybe charged it twice. As well it started to swivel and not hold desired position after a couple months. Well a month after that it broke off. PRS is usually unanimous with quality, not this tuner. Find something else
GREAT TUNER, GRIP SUCKS
Been using this tuner for a while now and Love its accuracy and display. its biggestFLAW is that grip. The "mouth" being so short and the jaws not opening wider limit the headstocks I can place it on and stay on. if PRS can put a deep/long jaw on it like many other tuners this would be the perfect tuner. Till then Ill have to use it as my back up.
My review
I have this tuner and I like it . I've had several Sharks and they tend to break . The PRS tuner is definitely way to use and fits on my guitars with no issues. Not sure why some other reviews were scored low . Another thing I like is it's rechargeable so you don't have to worry about batteries.
I definitely recommend it .
Failure of clip x 2
Purchased at my local music store but as soon as I put it on the guitar stock the clip broke. When I checked the clip the plastic the pin goes through was torn through. Its very thin plastic not up to the job. Took it back to music store and gave me a replacement... great service. BUT the second one broke exactly the same as the first one. Very disappointing.
Battery life
They don't hold a charge very long…not a good choice.
TC polytune is much better with a battery.
Good while it lasted
I had one of these given to me as gift. it worked well for a short time and then for no reason the the gauge just fell off. Tried to take it apart and wasn't able to open to get to the screw they had holding it together. Just a normal screw no nut and no way to tighten if it comes loose, and it will definitely come loose with use. Very poorly designed.
Tim
Would not hold a charge. Junk.
Cheap tuner with the PRS logo on it
The screen is made of a very cheap plastic so it gets scratched by anything, even your fingers so if you put it in your guitar case or bag be prepared for big scratches.
Battery life is poor, I always charged it to max and I always see 1 bar on the battery screen, also the micro USB in 2021 was a big no no .
I was very excited when this product was announced because of the strobo functionality, but whenever I was going to use it it was always discharged so I decided to switch to my old AROMA tuner which has many more years of use.
In short, I cannot recommend this item, it is a cheap tuner that has the PRS logo on it.
Poor quality assembly
Had this tuner for awhile. It is a bit jumpy but all in all it is a good tuner. the problem is the assembly. The tuner the other fell off the other day while I was playing. So the tuner head is attached with a screw that appears to look like a metal screw or a wood screw. This makes no sense as there are times when you need to rotate the tuner so you can see what you're doing while tuning. Eventually it gets too loose and falls off. It's not like you can tighten it because the fact is there is no accessible screw until it falls off. Mine was a gift and not a purchase from Sweetwater. Sweetwater is great when it comes to customer service.
Fine Tuner
Works great... battery charge lasts a long time. ONLY ONE Gripe... Clips great onto the headstock. Will NOT clip onto an iPad due to the clip design.
Last turner I will ever buy
For me, the endless search for the perfect tuner is over. Others have said it's twitchy. I disagree. I have high ratio locking tuners, and it's a breeze to pull my guitars into tune. And the battery life is unbelievable. The best part is no batteries are needed. Charge it on a USB port, and it will last for weeks, even with everyday use. Another feature I really like is the auto shut-off. Thanks, Nick for suggesting this tuner. (Also, it has a very sturdy clip that locks on strong and looks good too.)
Re- Review
I bought one of the very first available right here at sweetwater...it was not a good experience. I contacted PRS and said it was having charging and battier issues. They contacted me immediately and said they we're aware of the problem and they were sending a new one. The new one worked perfectly and I have bought 3 more and they all work flawlessly. if you are used to a snark or some of the less expensive tuners you will really enjoy how much better the PRS tuners are for not much more. These crush a snark of any kind I ever seen or used. I'm that guy who fights with his clip on tuner cuz I have ears! ....this is not the case with these...I don't know what they do different but all 4 of my PRS tuners match tune and my ears. These are the best clip on I have ever found!
Pretty good for normal use
I was scared of all the reviews about the battery, but it's really not bad. It lasts about a week using it a couple of times a day. I keep it near a charger too so it's pretty convenient. The clamps are unnecessarily small but they hold pretty well on my strat, I have to squeeze it into my acoustic to fit, but it doesn't fall off. It's an accurate tuner, I'd recommend it to anyone who is going to use it normally.
Good Tuner Bad Battery Life
I really like the tuner just the battery life is really bad. Lasts like a day after a full charge. Tunes good but be ready to be charging regularly.
Great Recommmendation From Ken Nace
I was buying a Blues Jr from Ken Nace and while I had him on the phone I asked if there was anything new in headstock tuners and he told me about the rechargeable tuner from PRS. I asked him to send me one. It is first tuner I have used in years that didn't suck. And I don't have to have a draw full of batteries. Thanks Ken!
I recommend this tuner
I've used it for about a week with no issues. I really like the different tuning modes
Not really useful
I purchased this tuner earlier this year, and I really wanted to like it.
It does tune a guitar, but the battery life is laughably short. I can get maybe 3 guitars tuned before it needs charged. On top of the incredibly short battery life, it doesn't tune accurately when the battery gets low.
After 6 months of light home use the tuner fell off of the clamp portion and is now completely unusable.
In summation, you would be better off buying a $5 headstock tuner than this one.
Rechargeable Good Idea, but Poor Implementation
Devices with rechargeable batteries should not drain drain this fast when turned off and not used for a few days. The tuner itself is very accurate, looks great (Nice Bird), but if engineers who designed it couldn't get the battery right, it should have simply been built with a replaceable battery. All of this from someone who very rarely leaves negative reviews.
Nice Tuner - Bad Battery
Like the tuner but as other reviewers have experienced it will not hold a charge very well. After full charge and using it once, the next time I turned it on the battery was half drained. And another time after not using it for over a week it lost charge completely. Like the idea of not having to replace coin batteries like other tuners but hoped for longer battery life between charges. Maybe a bad batch of battery cells?
ONEST VERY GOOD TUNER
THIS PRS TUNER IS GRATE VERY VERY GOOD TUNER IS LIKE A GOD TUNER I HANE LIKE 6 OR 8 TUNER AND THIS IS THE BEST TUNER NEVER SLIPERY FROM THE HEAD STOCK ITS STAY VERY TIGHTFIRMLY,HARD TO MOVE WICH IS VERY GOOD and NO slip rubber clip NOT LIKE THE OTHER ONES THEY SLIPPERY FORM HEADSTOCK IS VERY CONVENIENT AND IT CHARGE WITH USB FAST AND YOU DONT NEED TO EXPEND MONEY ON BUYING BATTERYS OR GET OFF OF BATTERYS IN THE MIDLE OF A GIG PLUS THE LCD DISPLAY VERY EASY TO READ DAY AND ON THE DARK
You have the ability to switch between a chromatic, guitar, bass, and ukulele, mandolin., CONGRATULATIONS TO PRS COMPANY VERY GOOD ITEM GOOD QUALITY I WILL BUY AOTHER ONE THANKS Mr. PRS
Believe the other reviews on this product "it's garbage"
First.... every time I want to use it its dead even after charging and storing. It is very accurate but if it won't work when you need it's worthless. It's very dim and will only show up in a dim room.I tried to return it and sweetwaters does not pay to return it so it will cost me half the price to get it back to them so they can sell it as a demo to some other smuck. But it did fit very nicely in my kitchen garbage can. Clip on tuners are mostly junk and this PRS tuner is not the exception. Way to blow it PRS!
Update to previous review
This thing is not durable. The joint where the screen attaches to the clamp is loose, causing vibrations and making it useless.
It Has a Bird!
Charged the battery to full before using and it's great! Super accurate and a killer design. The battery life has been great and lasted a week after playing my guitar daily. It took about two hours to charge and I was back at it.
Accurate tuner, poor battery life
This tuner hits the mark in every way but battery life. Yes I turn it off after tuning but also the auto off should work better. It needs to be plugged in if you want to depend on it for sure. I could use it for two small 2 hour sessions then the third it would die or wouldn't turn on because it was dead. Fix this Paul. Would work fine for the average musician.
Great
This is the tuner to get if you have a weird headstock... like the PRS and Breedlove. Of which I have both. It fits better than a snark or a polytune. The Tuner can be a little sensitive. But it does it's job well.
Battery doesn't hold a charge.
As others have reported if you fully charge this and don't even use it, the charge will only last a few days at best. It essentially needs to be constantly charging if you expect it to be charged when you want to tune. This is just not acceptable for a product like this. And this is from someone who would buy nearly anything made by PRS. It's just a bad design and not how other rechargeable items work. Hopefully, they fix this with a firmware update but in the meantime, I can't recommend this tuner.
Good idea, poor perfomance.
The headstock of a PRS guitar is unique. My Snark tuner is difficult to place on the headstock my PRS Custom 24. This tuner places nicely. Sadly this tuner will not hold a charge long. Not long at all. I tuned my guitar & turned the tuner off. The next day I tried to tune up & the tuner was dead. It needed to be charged after not being used for 24 hours. Seems like this tuner cannot be trusted to gig with. Generally speaking PRS products are incrediable. This tuner is not one of those products. I'm very surprised at the unreliable performance of this product. I was expecting more, I got less. Alot less....
Doesn’t hold a charge
I've had it a few weeks and the tuner is good but the rechargeable battery doesn't hold the charge. I gave it a full charge a few days ago and didn't use it, and it's already dead. I don't have this issue with my polytune clip that uses a tiny replaceable battery.
Don't buy this tuner.
Finally!
I couldn't wait to get this product, and decided to ordered a few. My son plays a Gibson Les Paul, and referred to it as "dope".
Really cannot say enough great things about this tuner. PRS has always made quality, and this is no exception.
FINALLY a tuner that charges via USB.
The price is unbeatable.
Battery is inadequate
I love PRS to bits, but this is not a good product. Battery runs out way too fast when not in use. The end result is that the tuner needs recharging most times you needed... A normal (not rechargeable) battery would have been a better option.
very touchy tuner
Doesn't hold charge very well
Clips to my PRS better that my Snark. Charged it overnight, without using, it lost some of the charge in 24 hours, where I never used it. Not sure I can depend on it if gigging.
Good tuner, pros and cons
Great Tuner
I ordered this tuner mainly for the internal rechargeable battery. After checking the tuner out for the first time I noticed how sturdier it felt than other clip on tuners I've used. You have the ability to switch between a chromatic, guitar, bass, and uke/mandolin tuners. You can also change your pitch from 415Hz to 466Hz. The tuner also saves your settings when you turn it off. It's overall a great tuner!
