Charvel Pro-Mod So-Cal Style 1 HSH FR Electric Guitar - Robin's Egg Blue with Ebony Fingerboard Reviews
Charvel’s Pro-Mod So-Cal Style 1 HSH FR electric guitar harkens back to the superstrat movement of the 1980s. A pedigreed shredder, this axe epitomizes the Southern California look and sound with its hot-rodded Seymour Duncan pickups, familiar body style, and silky compound-radius fingerboard with rolled edges. The So-Cal boasts a genuine Floyd Rose double-locking tremolo that can handle the gnarliest of dive-bombs without wrecking your tuning. If you’re in the market for a stock guitar that blazes with punk, hardcore, and metal vibe, Sweetwater guitarists are quick to recommend the Pro-Mod So-Cal Style 1 HSH.

Great Versatility
I don't consider myself to be much of a shredder, so I largely dismissed Charvel guitars as this is what they are known for.
But....
I was in the market for a Strat as this was a void I needed bridged. I picked this up as a clearance item from a guitar box store and couldn't be happier. I primarily play worship guitar and classic rock, and this thing does it all. You can even get a pretty classic position-4 Strat sound (which is my favorite Strat sound), or switch to 1 or 5 for screaming distortion tones.
I didn't know I needed a Floyd Rose. I have always avoided them because everyone complained about how difficult they are to set-up and maintain, but I did a basic set-up, watched a few you tube videos, and voila! I almost never needed to touch the tuning! I have had this thing for about 4 months now and it has quickly become an indispensable part of my arsenal. Even at full price, this guitar punches well above its weight class.
BEAUTIFUL BEAST
The fit and finish rivals my US Strat. It's not a flat blue, it has a pearly metallic sparkle. Feels fantastic in the hands, frets were finished nicely. Pickups have a nice balance but definitely high output, though middle single coil can clean up nicely. There was some fret glue slop leftover and volume pot doesn't have the physical resistance I'd like but these are insignificant issues for me. The Floyd is smooth as butter, love it. If you love strats but you want some firepower this is it.
Great Guitar
Smooth neck, with a nice round profile, making it super comfortable to play, regardless where you are on the neck. The compound radius was a real eye opener for me. Made double string bends higher up so much easier and cleaner. Stays incredibly well in tune, even for a floyd, this one is good. Swapped out the pickups for Fishman Fluence Keith Merrow signatures.
