Charvel Pro-Mod DK24 HSS Electric Guitar - Shell Pink Reviews

Solidbody Electric Guitar with Alder Body, Caramelized Maple Neck, Caramelized Maple Fingerboard, 2 Single-coil Pickups, 1 Humbucking Pickup, and Gotoh Tremolo - Shell Pink

Two guitar icons come together in the Charvel Pro-Mod DK24. The classic Jackson Dinky alder body is light in the hands and contoured against the body, while the Charvel 2-piece reinforced maple Speed Neck remains rock solid as it ages. Charvel’s familiar 12"–16" compound-radius fingerboard flattens out nicely in the upper registers, giving technical players the speed and expression they need for bends, runs, and vibrato.

Beautiful guitar with a very shreddy neck

By Derek from NOKESVILLE, VA

I love this guitar. It feels amazing to play and looks gorgeous. The neck is buttery smooth and lets me jump from low frets to high frets with quickly and easily. The five different positions for pickup selection allow for a wide range of tonal variety as well.

Not a negative, but just for awareness: if you are not used to playing with a middle pickup, it is going to take some getting used to. I had to change my picking-hand position a little bit due to this. I got used to it in a few days though.

Almost perfect, but no deal breakers

By Sweetwater Customer

So as other reviews have said this guitar feels great to play, and out of the box was in pretty good shape, with 1 major exception: the wiring.

Nothing short of atrocious. Leads way too long, cold, messy solder joints, and an obvious lack of attention to detail.

The wiring caused 2/5 positions on the selector switch to not function, additionally the tone pot didn't function correctly either.

Obviously something is shorting/touching something it isn't supposed to.

So my brand new guitar is currently in the shop with my trusted local luthier because I didn't want to risk waiting for an exchange just to get another guitar soldered by the same numbskull that worked on the first.

So buyer beware, it's specced wonderfully and was almost perfect out of the box, but unfortunately I can't give it a perfect score because the issues, while fixable, are still a big deal.

Are you man enough for a pink Charvel?

By Smart A. from Williston Park, NY

Well, for me, the answer is F yes!

This guitar rocks hard on the bridge but is also very flexible and has all those clean, spanky, single-coil tones too for the middle and neck. I have 9 guitars and this is the one I've been reaching for the most, even over my EBMM JP15. It's a lot of fun and super easy to play!

Thanks for your eternal patience with me Bob Furlong!!

Rock on!

Just....wow.

By Mike from Montana
Music Background: Audio engineer, freelance session musician, band member

I've been playing guitar for almost 20 years. I'm have a degree in audio engineering, and play in a touring band.

I own several high end guitars, and i've had the privilege of playing a wide variety of different models/brands through friends- from Keisel to PRS. After playing it for a few weeks, I can confidently say that this guitar blows all of them out of the water.

The finish is fantastic, the setup was great out of the box (although it arrived with a broken string), the neck feel is just so smooth that I never want to put this guitar down. I own a US made PRS and this guitar puts it to shame at a fraction of the cost. The pickups give you a wide selection of tonal varieties- I could go on for hours singing it's praises.

I think my big take away is that we're all out here searching for "the holy grail" guitar. I hate pink, but I finally found THE guitar in this guitar.

If you're on the fence..

By Isaias from New Braunfels, TX
Music Background: Multi-instrumentalist, Semi-Professional

I was guitar shopping online for months. Watched every possible youtube video and finally settled on this pink beauty. The sleek white on pink color combination was what first caught my attention, but after listening to a few demo videos, I knew I had to buy this guitar..
It arrived today and I could not stop gawking at how beautiful it was.. My girlfriend said she didn't even see me that excited when I asked her out! Haha!
Needless to say, I cant put it down.. the pickups really are amazing on this guitar and I had heard these weren't really some people's preference.. However, I am more of a bluesy-metal kinda guy so they work perfectly for me. The tonal diversity of this guitar is insane.
After looking at a few other guitars, namely an Ibanez RG series and an Epiphone Les Paul Custom, It took me about three weeks to finally pull the trigger and buy this guitar.. I don't regret it one bit.
Also, shoutout to David W. here at Sweetwater, he was great throughout my whole ordering process and kept me in the loop. Shipping was on time! Buy this now!!

Modern classic

By Devin R.

This guitar rips, and can cover a vast range of music. I love the roasted neck, the luminary's, the neck profile, and the pickups. This is the best value in a modern style guitar, in my opinion. I have guitars worth twice as much as this that are not much better. I absolutely recommend this.

Awesome!

By Robert L. from ELIZABETHTOWN, KY

I ordered this guitar about a month ago and I can't put it down. The Charvel dk24 has the most amazing neck I have ever played in my 30 years as a guitarist. Stays in tune amazingly a sounds beautiful. As a matter of fact I am so impressed that I ordered the humbucker version also.

Smooth and Speedy Axe

By Jon C.

I was looking for a "Swiss Army knife" guitar that played comfortably and could cover a lot of sonic territory. After doing some research and talking to my Sweetwater rep Paul Eckert, I settled on the Charvel Pro-Mod DK24 HSS. I wasn't disappointed! This is one of the best SuperStrats at this price point I've ever played.

First, let's talk about the neck. It is extremely comfortable and super fast. The rolled edges and satin finish make it play like butter. It may be the best "speed neck" I've ever played.

Secondly, the additional attributes on this thing - the bridge, locking tuners, alternate 5-way switch wiring, and super smooth pots are icing on a tasty shell pink cake. And, yeah, the color and finish are beautiful. Never though I'd want a pink guitar!

If you like comfortable, fast, great sounding pink guitars, this is for you! As always, thanks to my guy Paul Eckert at ext. 1344 for the superb customer service and getting this bad girl to me super fast!

Amazing Guitar

By Sweetwater Customer

The build quality on this guitar is phenomenal. The Gotoh 510 Tremolo is smooth and beautiful, the neck pickup is nice and warm while the bridge pickup is nice and hot when put in distortion.
I only have 3 small complaints on this guitar. The High E string has an annoying sitar sound when played open (I assume the nut slot for that string is too wide, so I will need to have the nut replaced). The no-load tone pot is starting to become easier to turn below 10, which it has a slight lock when it's set to 10. The last complaint I have is that my pickup selector switch cap is very loose and comes off even with a small pickup selecting movement.
The only reason why I gave this a 4 was because it does not come with at least a gig bag and because of the problem with the high E string.

Other than that, I'm sure this guitar will be absolutely perfect after I take it into the shop for a setup/possible nut replacement.

I definitely recommend this guitar.

Amazing Guitar for the money

By Lance
Music Background: 25 to life

So sorry Kyle, I've been been shopping for the perfect guitar for me for a long time. I was going to just build one. I was looking for a strat, but I found it here. That's too bad that QC didn't help you out. I found the build quality and attention to detail unsurpassed on my instrument. I'm glad you liked the neck, I'm in love. I've heard a lot of people complaining about the lack of stainless frets for the price. There's many instruments at this price point without SS. There's also some with SS, though most of those do not have a roasted neck and Seymour Duncan pickups...gotta give and take guys. I'm very happy.

Great Value on paper, but...

By Kyle T. from Summersville, KY

I was very disappointed in this guitar. On paper, this instrument is a great deal and value for the money. Locking tuners, roasted neck, Jackson compound radius fretboard, 24 frets etc etc...

Straight out of the box this guitar had multiple issues. I found several defects in the finish. How it passed through Charvel QC is a wonder to me. How it passed through Sweetwaters 55 point inspection is the bigger question. The plastic tip on the pickup selector switch was barely secured. It fell off the first time I switched pickups.

The real problem occurred when I put new strings on. As I started taking the old strings off I noticed the trem post anchors were rising up out of the body. I took all the strings and bridge off and was able to pull the anchors out with finger pressure. Completely unacceptable.

Not all bad though... The neck is an absolute joy to play. Unfortunately I didn"t get to play it that much. I returned the guitar and Customer service took care of me. If the guitar had none of these issues it would have been a keeper. Another thing that did bother me was the lack of a Hardshell case or even a gig bag. Other companies are providing cases for instruments at lesser price points.

Great Guitar!

By Steve from New York
Music Background: Gigging Musician

...this is one fine guitar and here are my thoughts. Right out of the box, the build quality was notably excellent. No flaws in the finish, no sharp fret ends, just really good. The roasted neck is beautiful cosmetically and plays like butter. The Seymour Duncan pickup set provides you with a wealth of tonal options, everything from a nice harmonic-rich distorted tone to a snappy Fender Strat-like tone. It's all there, very nice. The Gotoh 510 bridge, in my opinion, is the best non-locking tremolo on the market. Very stable and feels very nice. This guitar reminds me a lot of a Suhr Pro-Series guitar I used to own, but at a much more attractive price point. The only reason I give it a 4.5 and not a 5.0 is the fact that it comes with neither a case, or even a gig bag. Seems like one of the two is in order for a guitar at this price. Nice job Charvel, grteat guitar at a great price!
