Charvel Pro-Mod DK24 HH 2PT Electric Guitar - Satin Burgundy Mist Reviews

Solidbody Electric Guitar with Alder Body, Caramelized Maple Neck, Caramelized Maple Fingerboard, 2 Humbucking Pickups, and Gotoh Tremolo - Satin Burgundy Mist

Two guitar icons come together in the Charvel Pro-Mod DK24. Its alder Jackson Dinky body is light in the hands and contoured against the body, while a graphite-reinforced Charvel Speed Neck remains rock solid as it ages. Charvel's familiar 12"–16" compound-radius fingerboard flattens out nicely in the upper registers, giving technical players the speed and expression they need for bends, runs, and vibrato.

Phenomenal instrument

By Grant Gabriel from Southfield, MI on January 3, 2022

I rarely take the risk of buying a guitar I haven't tried out first but I can't think of a more trustworthy retailer than Sweetwater. This guitar is a monster. The pickups kick like a mule when in series and sing when in parallel. It's a versatile axe that you can take to any modern music gig. Playability is also top notch.

neck perfect now

I recently did a review and gave it a 4 out of 5 because the high E kept slipping off the neck I loosened the neck pulled it in place and now it is perfect so now I am giving it a 5 star rating

Love the sound and the fluidity of the neck really makes this axe a triple threat

Kitty All The Things

My very first guitar, the first big ticket item I ever purchased as An Adult (okay, 16), was a Charvel 3DR. Dinky body, 22 frets, rosewood w/ dots, reverse Jackson style headstock (no toothpaste logo here), humbucker with a slant single at the neck and a Floyd. It was pretty cheap, it came with a case and it was a great first guitar. It was also Burgundy Mist. As a high school student in the late 80's I caught hell for it.

"Dude... it's pink." Dude, so were my pants.

Okay, first off, the photos don't really do this color any justice. I'm not saying it's not pink, but it is a much more tasteful shade than pics suggest, with a very subtle pearl to it which really sets off the caramelized maple neck and fretboard which are also much deeper and richer than the photos suggest. They're the color of... well... caramel. I thought I'd be turned off by the white accents, but it works, looking pretty classy with the chrome. The satin finish actually makes it look less pink than my old 3DR, which was gloss and had a more pronounced, sparklier pearl to it.

Feature-wise. this little baby destroys that old 3DR. The neck is every bit as thin as my Soloist and the rolled edges on the fretboard makes it super comfy. Sorry, but I can detect no smell from the neck. Maybe because it's allergy season. I did lick it. Tastes so-so. Anyhoo, the body sculpting is really amazing everywhere and there are no access or comfort issues to speak of. Plays great, stays in tune and is very very light. Thank you Mr. Govan for the super duper input jack design. Oh and it takes about three minutes to restring.

Tonally, well, let's just say if this looks like a Hello Kitty guitar, Miss Kitty White here has some Serious Attachments. I'd be pretty hard pressed to find a sound you can't get out of this little critter. From Smooth Like Butter to Thick And Syrupy to Glassy Chimey to Quirky Quacky it really does offer a broad palette of tonal options. Kitty Ray Vaughn, Kitty Gilmour, Kitty Vai or Kitty Mustaine, Kitty it all because, while she will certainly purr, this Kitty's got claws, too.

Charvel DK24 HH

If you need a shredding machine this guitar is made for you. This guitar even sounds fast and plays like a dream. The available tones are unreal with almost endless possibilities. All this and it comes in Burgundy Mist Satin which is icing on the cake. ENJOY!!!

Can find NO issues. Love playing this.

This is an update to my previous review. I mentioned the color and speed knob as a concern. I was USED to playing hard tails, not not strat style guitars. The knob is in a different place. I adjusted quickly and now love both. Tuning stability is excellent, and i've noticed the neck (once set up) requires no adjustment. I'm in utah with no humidity and wildly varying temperatures. This thing stays in tune. It needs to because sometimes i put a fishman triple play on it to play pad sounds with my band. The triple play translates each string vibration individually to midi. If the tuning is off or drifts the triple play system would not be usable. This thing is solid. Easily as stable as my hardtail guitars.

It's been totally reliable. It's the only guitar that i can get single coil type sounds out of without excessive single coil noise. I can wail on the tremolo (two full steps up and more than that down) and it stays in tune.

I just can't say enough about this guitar. I rarely write reviews and don't remember ever having written an update to an initial review. This guitar has earned a follow up.

Perfection!

By Jules from Leesburg, GA on March 3, 2020 Music Background: Plaing at the guitar for decades.

If you like superstrats, this one will likely cover all the bases! With 10 distinctive pickup settings, a great pickup combination and an all around great feeling and playing guitar, I can come up with an excuse to buy anything else.

Believe the other reviews. It IS that good!

As to the color, I wanted something non-traditional to inspire me to play differently while I am holding it. I like the color, just fine!

Great guitar!!!

Smells great

By Evan from Dayton, Ohio on January 17, 2020

This guitar is so much more than I expected! The body carves on it make it so comfortable, and the neck is so fast! The trem is so responsive and the pickup system gives you such a variety of tones. The roasted maple neck is smooth and it smells SO GOOD. Love this guitar and the color.

Loving it so far

By Evan Jackson from Indiana on December 17, 2019 Music Background: Semi-Professional Hobbyist

First of all, big thank you to all the people at Sweetwater. They were super helpful and friendly as always. I've always been a Stratocaster guy for most of my time as a player but recently I was searching for something different. This Charvel is perfect for anyone in that same boat. I've had a few minor issues with it staying in tune but with a few tweaks I should be able to get it nailed down. It plays great, looks great, and sounds great. The parallel settings are an awesome tonal options on top of the five way selector. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for something versatile and a little unconventional.

Better than expected

By Sam from Utah on October 10, 2019 Music Background: Serious. Gig regularly.

I wanted the dk24 version with the middle pickup. None were available to try at my local retailer, but they had one of these...

Build: very good. Paint job is flawless. There is a tiny amount of buildup INSIDE the tremolo routing cavity. Not an issue. Neck joint 100% flush. No gap at all. Frets are very good. No rough edges. No buzz. The neck is beautiful and needs to be experienced. The volume is a speed knob which im not a fan of. I like the knob to have some friction so I put a washer under the knob and now it’s perfect. This is personal preference and nothing negative.

Sounds:
Hum bucking sounds are excellent. The jazz and shred pups match well. Single coil sounds are convincing and useful. They set this guitar apart from the traditional sounds as these are single could combinations that are 100% hum-bucking!!!!!

Wishes for improvement: wish the tuners were staggered height so string trees were not needed. Wish the volume knob was regular and not speed. Wish it came with a gig bag.

Summary:
Excellent offering for someone wanting a workhorse guitar... or a guitar with unique single coil sounds... or someone wanting one guitar that covers the entire range of sounds.

Great Guitar for the Price!

By Sweetwater Customer from FL on November 10, 2023 Music Background: Rock star

Best super strat guitar for $ I have ever played. The guitar makes you want to play more. Although, I do agree with other reviewers, that the bridge pickup does sound dark. Which is odd. Maybe Seymour Duncan is making these sets differently today. I also find the aph1 sounds less crisp then usual. But understand this does not mean cheap. This guitar shreds…seriously! Tones are fantastic! Very metal! Mexicans always build great guitars. Like they say, "You can buy an American Fender made by Mexicans or a Mexican Fender made by Mexicans".

great all around guitar

By mr Maxx from MI on January 9, 2021 Music Background: long time guitar teacher

I love many of the things that other reviews have talked about. my issue is with the bridge pickup. it has too much low end and also has some issues with the high mids. I used Seymour Duncan JB's for years, but they were very hot and had very pronounced highs. I put a Seymour Duncan Jason Becker in my strat a couple years ago, and it seems to be what I want to hear. based on the JB but has less output and has greater clarity. the Jason Becker is 4 conductor and is about as hot as the stock full shred, so I'm going to to try that. aside from that a beautifully playing guitar.
