Bass drum legs
I just picked up a 24" kick drum for my Taye kit, so I bought these to use my 18" kick as a floor tom. Really solid legs, much sturdier than regular floor tom legs. Plus no drilling needed so I can go back to using it as a kick if required. And the 18" tom sounds like thunder! As always great service and delivery from Sweetwater.
Brilliant idea!
I was looking for a way to turn one of my bass drums into a gong drum easily. This was it! Such a simple design, I"m shocked it hasn"t been done before this. I will say this: it does hamper the resonance a little. I mean....it is a clamp that is anchored to the ground. So, if you are someone who hates that floor toms are deadened by legs, this will be the same. I think it"s a perfect solution for what I needed!
Required major redesign to work, but works well.
I have a second bass drum for my kit, but since I don't play double kick, its just been collecting dust. I was looking for a way to utilize it akin to a gong drum but didn't want to add any hardware to the shell to make it work. Then I found this and it looked like a perfect solution. The manufacturer's specifications said it would fit my kick, so I bought a used set. The specs say that it will fit a 16.5" minimum gap; I measured mine from rim to rim - 17 inches, perfect. They show up yesterday, and the gap between the hooks its actually 18 inches. Turns out that the manufacturer was not clear about the sizing restrictions.
I was able to modify the legs by removing the hooks and re-welding them 2 inches closer. It works like a champ now, but not everybody has the tools or skills to make those sorts of adjustments,
