Behringer Powerplay PM1 1-channel Stereo Personal In-ear Monitor Beltpack Reviews

In-ear Monitor Beltpack with Metal Housing, Belt Clip, Volume Control, 3.5mm Headphone Output, and XLR Input

The Behringer Powerplay PM1 restores freedom of movement to the in-ear user. This completely passive box is tiny, requires no power, and lets you control your in-ear volume from your hip. Every part of the PM1 is designed to withstand the rigors of the road, from the smooth volume pot to the overbuilt metal chassis and belt clip. Sweetwater reviewers were impressed with the locking XLR input, which keeps foot traffic and stage mishaps from disconnecting your monitor source. Best of all, the Behringer Powerplay PM1 uses a standard 3.5mm output jack to drive in-ears, headphones, or earbuds.

Good for what it is

By Dennis on April 21, 2023

Wanted a more streamlined solution to our ears and hopefully eliminating some of the cable clutter with our current system. The xlr clipping straight in without the need for aux extensions is great. Build is really nice and really the noise ceiling is non existent, but… and a big but.

You only get that very clean sound when you are running it from a dedicated headphone amp. If you run them direct from a console bus, while you can get them loud, a side by side comparison with an amped signal for the keen eared you will hear a difference. Sound will be slightly thinner and the clarity falls off.

That being said the difference is fairly minor maybe 5-10% less clarity which for what this unit is meant to do is honestly pretty good. You will have to crank the gain sends, you will lose a bit of clarity, but as a backup set or even for those who just want a quick and easy solution they do the job.

Perfect little tool.

This is the perfect little tool for plug and mix monitoring. I was able to send a mono mix to each of the band members giving them a reference they could follow along with.

Great Wired IEM Solution

By Ehrin Anthony from Milton, NY on March 27, 2023 Music Background: Drummer

I'm a drummer and was looking for an easy, wired IEM solution. This fits the bill perfectly. We use a Midas MR18 for IEMs and I simply plug an XLR to 1/4" TRS cable from the MR18 headphone out (which conveniently can be set up as an independent mix) into this and I have my mix and a volume control. The locking XLR means I'm not worried the cable will come loose. Since I'm using the headphone out, I have more than enough volume. This is a simple, easy solution to get IEMs to a fixed position.

Performance improved

By Sam from Winston Salem, NC on March 16, 2023

Our worship team has improved their performance.

Very good for the price!

This piece was great and durable. If on a budget and need a simple personal monitoring system this is fantastic!

Good for Drummer IEMs

By Sweetwater Customer on November 30, 2022

I'm a drummer and I use this for my IEMs with my band's Xair mixer and my Westone ear buds. It works great. Other commenters talked about low levels, I'm a hard hitter and I don't have this problem, although I use ear bud inserts that are more on the isolating side.

great for a drummer

By David Blackwell from Canonsburg, PA on September 20, 2022 Music Background: drummer

I use this to tie into the singers monitor while on the drums so i can hear just his voice to be able to speed up or slow down the beat, works perfect!

Budget Friendly Solution!

By Joshua Lane from Commercial Point, OH on April 4, 2022

I am a youth worship leader at my church. We don't have a big budget but came to the point in our worship where we needed in ears in order to run tracks. We currently run 7 of these for our band and they are great! If you have band members that don't move a lot or just need a budget friendly option for in ears, these do not disappoint!

Plenty of volume for my earbuds

By Dave from Phoenix on February 17, 2022

I am using this to bring audio from our digital snake XLR output to my Shure earbuds. I was concerned that it might not have enough drive for my earbuds but it has plenty with the volume control at about 75%. This is great as I don't have to worry about batteries. It also clips to my music stand which puts the earbuds within reach.

Very pleased with the build quality

By Francisco Aquino from Doral, FL on January 13, 2022

I'm very pleased with the build quality, it's way more solid than I thought.

Excellent purvhase

By John from Arizona on June 28, 2020 Music Background: Bass player at church for 20 years. Bass player since 1977.

Use it with both an Aviom and LiveMix on stage monitor. Works wonderfully. Only regret was not getting the longer cable.

Budget friendly IEM

By Sweetwater Customer on December 25, 2019 Music Background: Praise and worship guitarist. Rock, metal, blues, gospel

I bought one of these for my KZ iem fir church several months ago and it works perfectly with our aviom system! No battery needed, xlr lock on the unit, belt clip to keep it in place, volume knob to adjust levels and perfect compact size. Genius budget friendly product for churches using wired iems.

Perfect Wired IEM Solution

By Sweetwater Customer on February 25, 2018

Perfect for wired IEM rig and very low profile.
Mackie DL32R stereo IEM feeds a Presonus HP60 headphone amp which feeds back to performers via individual stage snakes. Match your snake sends though, ie TRS Male to XLR male in the belt pack.

Locking XLR is great security for moving onstage and NOT having to worry about batteries is great.
Hopefully Behringer doesn"t stop making these in favor of the battery versions....

Para el precio es perfecto.

A Clear No Brainer!

By Darryl Armistead from Chicago on January 30, 2017 Music Background: Pro Musician

It's tiny. No battery. Plenty loud. Connect it with the aux out of a mixer. This is perfect for stationary musicians. There is no competition at this price point for a wired in-ear monitor without a battery and this small. Now, in-ear monitoring is affordable for most musicians.

Best low cost IEM

By Sweetwater Customer on December 16, 2016

Couple this with Shure SE215 and you have a killer low cost IEM solution. I am a guitarist and our drummer, bass player and I all use these. A little more bother with the XLR cable that wireless but at the price it can't be beat. We used to use the Powerplay P1 but it was a hassle with the battery. This one is no battery, no complications. Plenty loud. Ususally run about 3/4 volume.

Nice & Affordable IEM Belt pack

If you're looking for something cheap but good quality this is the way to go, the only downside is mobility

Bang for your buck, but doesn't sound great

By Daniel from Galveston TX on January 8, 2022

I like this little pack, it's gotten me through a couple dozen gigs so far, I really like the form factor and that it doesn't need a battery.
However, using it to listen to the mains through it, and comparing to plugging my headphones directly into my mixer, there's a noticable lack of "clarity" in the sound, and explains why it often sounds "fuzzy" during gigs.

Useful but not absolutely reliable

By Nathan Nagel from Bismarck, ND on October 6, 2022 Music Background: Semi-pro Musician

They work good when you have time to set them up, but they often come apart and wear and tear of playing often breaks them. I would suggest ordering a second one as a back up just in case.

This is a passive device - not a headphone (IEM) amplifier

By DoubleDog Recording from Round Rock, TX on December 15, 2023

I'm sure the PM1 is a fine device, but I'm giving 2.5 stars because its not really clear in the description that this REQUIRES a connection to a headphone amplifier. It is a 100% passive device, which is saying that it is only an attenuator, or in even more plain English -- you can only turn the volume down. You cannot uses this to connect to a line-level output (like on most mixers including the AUX outputs on Behringer's own XR12/XR16/XR18 mixers. Instead you need a powered personal monitor like the P2. And yes, I found this out the hard way but I'm telling you so you don't fall in the same trap!

Quiet

By Sweetwater Customer from WA on September 8, 2022

Good sound quality and cheap as dirt, but they are incredibly quiet. They are still useable, but the low volume makes mixing difficult its either 100% or you aren't hearing it

Good backup..

By Sweetwater Customer on May 15, 2017 Music Background: Touring Musician

Not loud enough for practical use live without an additional headphone amp. Every mixin board has to max out their AUX outputs to the point of distortion to get any decent impact and clarity. Awesome cheap backup in case powered one fails. Design of this seems solid just wish it were louder somehow.
