Everything was going great until the cymbal mics completely died

Over all Impressed

By Jeff from New Orleans
Music Background: 45 years of making and recording music.

I know these aren't the top of the line drum mic's. But I've been very satisfied with their performance. They do what they are suppose to do. To me that means good levels over all. Decent isolation, and a pretty true sound. I use them for recording band practice and live performances. I do use a SM57 on the snare top and a AKG D112 on the front kick. But over all I would defiantly recommend these mic's.

Those clips…::

By Doug G. from Louisiana

The mics are great. The 3 clips that attach to the rim of the drum, supposedly, are junk. I looked up how to properly mount the clip and then proceeded to break two of the three clips barely using any pressure…..

Pretty good for the price

By John

I have a 7 piece which the PGADRUMKIT7 covered mostly.
The 8, 10 and 12 inch toms got the 3 PGA 56's.
I put the PGA 52 and a second one I ordered on both floor toms 14 and 16 inch. The PGA 52 isn't a great bass mic, but does very well with deeper toms.
For bass the industry standard is the Beta 52, so ordered one of those for bass. It really is the best.
Snare mic is okay, probably end up switching to an SM57 someday. That will be the only replacement. All else was add-ons.
PGA 81's are condensers (phantom power needed), and are SUPER sensitive and versatile. In small venues/stages watch for feedback.

Shure PGA Drum Mic Kit 7 Works awesome

By Jim
Music Background: Drummer

I purchased this set for a home studio. They each work very well for what I'm doing, recording drums and such. They are clear and do sound fantastic! I would say the bass drum mic could be a tad better. But it does the Job perfectly! Even purchased 3 more separately. Do to having more toms then normal. I do think Shure should release a PGA 10pc kit. Adding a few extra tom mics for those who have a bigger set then the normal 5/6 piece. Other then that they work well! I recommend them!

I love this mic kit

By Keith from New Jersey

This was exactly what I needed! The kit includes 7 mics, 7 cables, clips and the carrying case. I hooked it all up and was really happy with the quality of the mics and sound. You can't go wrong with Sure mics - these mics are well built, versatile and captured the drum kit perfectly. My only complaint is that the mic cables that came with it were a little shorter than what I needed. Great product at a good price.

All right

By Benjamin O. from Asheville area, NC
Music Background: Drummer for 7 years

This is the first set of drum mics I've purchased and owned myself, and I gotta say, most of them sound pretty good. Except for the kick mic. It is completely lifeless. So there's no low end, for a start (frequency response bottoms out at 50hz, that probably has something to do with it). It's also extremely poor at capturing the beater attack, so anything you record with it is going to sound like dry patting/thumping instead of a kick drum. I tried a felt beater and a plastic beater and both sounded like crap. If you're willing to get dirty with multiband compression/gating, EQ, and transient processing, you can get an OK kick sound, but the bottom line is that the frequencies that make up a good kick sound aren't really there in raw recordings.

That aside, everything else is nice. Replace the kick mic with an Audix D6 or something
and you'll have a winner.

Meh

By Sweetwater Customer from Milwaukee

You might be better off piecing together a microphone kit yourself. Pretty much all of these mics have cheap equivalents that sounds way better.
Overheads: Rode M5s sound way better than the overheads included in this kit.
Snare: SM57 sounds much better than the included snare mic.
Tom: These kit mics sound alright on the rack tom but the floor tom has too much bass that CANNOT be captured by these dinky things. I threw an SM57 on the floor tom and this was the biggest night and day difference overall.

It's a good kit to get you started but knowing what I know now, I will likely sell them for some other entry level mics that will likely outperform these.

Shure Drum Mics

By Frank L. from Alabama
Music Background: Indie Pop Rock Drummer aka Weekend Warrior

Recently our band performed to a rather large crowd(12,000) at a regional festival . Normally when we do so the local sound tech provides all the mics including for the drums. At the last minute we were advised "bring your own!" I immediately called Ben Robinson at Sweetwater looking for assistance. I told him what the deal was and that since I don't normally need to provide my own mics I didn't want to spend a whole lot of money on a higher end set. Jointly we decided on the Shure PGA Drum Kit 7. It fit the bill and the budget. I have to say these mics easily handled the sound. Typical Shure reputational quality, clear, non distorted and full. Ran them through a mixer and found it easy to adjust the EQ and the volume levels. I would recommend on the PGA81's best bet is to place one close to the high hat to get the sound picked up well. Within 4 inches. All the others just normally mount and you should be all set. AND AS USUAL Sweetwater delivered in just a couple of days. I highly recommend their tech support and also service.

Did a great job!

By JR from Reidsville, NC
Music Background: Semi Pro

I needed something within budget that would do a good job at a live event. This kit did the job well. They are built solid and will take a beating, but of course I don't suggest beating them to test, lol. But they has a good solid clean sound that I was looking for without much EQ. These should also do a great job indoors or studio. I am definitely satisfied with my purchase. I looked at other brands and some were even priced way less than this, but if on a budget this is definitely the way to go.

Pleasantly surprised.

By James M. from Reidsville, NC
Music Background: Been doing this for a long time,

Bought these to use at a pro level gig. Had never worked with this band before, and most had their own drum mics but not this time. Upon receiving and inspecting this kit I was immediately surprised at how well made they were. I did a comparison of different mics one at a time through the same channel on the board with the same flat settings and recorded each one. When I finished doing the same test on each I went back and listened to each one in the recordings. I was pleasantly surprised at the sound quality of each of these. They were also compared to other brands and models. And for live outdoor gigs, this set easily holds it's own. I did not use much eq at all on any of them. The drummer had one more tom than the kit covered so I purchased one of the tom mics separately and added it to my kit. So if you need a decent kit on a budget, this kit handles the job well. I could've spent less on another brand but I'm sure I would have been disappointed. I also could have spent double to get a great kit. All in all, This was a very good buy and did a fine job.

Love This Set

By Mason B.

I had been looking at getting a set of mics to record my drums for a long time and my band wanting to record our next album on our own made me give in. I wanted something nice but I’m also not in any position to be dropping thousands of dollars right now. I decided to go with the Shure PGA Drum Kit 7 drum mic set and it’s been a great choice!

First off, Sweetwater has been amazing! The option they offer for payment plans is a life saver and their customer service has been killer. I will 100% continue my online shopping here. I got the mic set on time and with no problems as well.

I am very new to recording and very new to microphones in general so I am by no means an expert but the sound we’re getting out of these mics is awesome! I am so pleased with how things are turning out with them. I just spent a few days in a professional studio working on another project and I can honestly say that I like the sound I’m getting on my own with this mic kit in a basement more than what the studio was getting with top of the line mics.

I have yet to use them in a live concert setting but going off of my experience with them so far I can only assume that they will be great for live performances too.

I highly recommend these if you’re looking for some nice, affordable drum microphones!

Completely satisfied!

By Don from Castle Pines, CO

For the price, you're not going to find a better set of mics. I've not recorded with these mics, but based on how they've performed live in bars, halls, ballrooms, indoors, outdoors, with large and small bands, I have to believe these would work in the studio, too. Great bottom and "boom" on the kick drum, excellent pick-up and crispy breakthrough of my six cymbals from the overheads, and excellent projection from the snare and tom mics. You may get some marginally better performance from the Audix or Sennheisers and pay twice as much or more, but for the money, you can't beat this kit of mics.

Best mic set out there for the price

By Omri K. from California

These are a great foundation for any live or studio soundman looking to grab the first set of drum mics. The next logical upgrade after acquiring these would then of course be to swap out individual mics for higher-end counterparts, I'd start with the snare miv as plain SM57's are easy to acquire if one doesn't already own some. Or perhaps one could jump straight to the DMK57-52 pack for another great deal on Shure microphones. This is a great pack, nothing else beats it at this price point.

Great Mics!

By Robert F. from Tucson, AZ

My drums sound incredible with these mics-no regrets in buying them. I use them to jam to tracks, and later I will do some recording with them. They are solidly built and look good too. Would buy them again.

Shure PGA 7 Mic Kit

By D. S. from WV
Music Background: 36 years

Great mics for the price! This set even comes with mic cables, whereas other brands require you to order cables separately. Very responsive, especially the overheads. I would recommend these mics to any drummer. I am going to get two more tom-tom mics, another snare mic for underneath snare, and a second bass mic to outside the resonant head. I'm using a Shure SM-57 for my hats, however the sensitivity of the one snare mic in the PGA 7 kit actually picks up the snare and hi-hat well; I just like a lot of hat. Again, fantastic product at a phenomenal price!!

Sounds fine for the price

By Peter H. from Cincinnati, OH

Nothing special, but nothing delicate or shoddy either. Quality construction, sound fine, cables are a little fiddly, but for the price, you can't beat this set.
