Great little guitar!
I purchased this to be my "work guitar" to bring with me to the various sites I practice music therapy. It's just the right size and it produces a warm, powerful sound. I plan to change the strings and oil the fretboard soon but I am very impressed with the quality of this guitar for the low price!
Best investment I’ve ever made
I love this guitar I get to take it with me and not miss any practice the feel in the hands is superb
Great guitar
Plays and sounds great. I was unsure about the controls in the sound hole, but it's growing on me. The location of the tuner is perfect.
My students guitar
I ordered this guitar for one of my students and not only do I love it but he does as well. I had told them about Sweetwater and the 3/4 Ibanez guitar that you sell and they asked me if I minded ordering it for them since I knew which one I was telling them about. I said no problem and I called and ordered it for them. They were really pleased when they came to pick it up and like I said so was I. So thanks again for helping me make my student and his parents very happy with their purchase. I would highly recommend this guitar to anyone who has a young student who wants to or is taking guitar lessons and wants a very nice guitar that is 3/4 size and is not only tunable but the action is very nice as well.
Best for the buck!
I needed a guitar to take and play in my car while I write. This small size allows me to do that. Compared to my friend's Yamaha JR1, this guitar's scale length is 1.5" longer, so the cramped fret board is a little less of a shock to my fingers coming from a full size. As a bonus I wasn't expecting, the guitar comes with a gig bag, spare bridge pin, truss rod wrench and a spare saddle (?!). It's sound is what you expect for a 3/4 size guitar - not great but serves the purpose. If you don't want to spend $330 for a Baby Taylor or Little Martin (which I didn't, banging around with this thing in my car, on the road, in the sun), this Ibanez presents an excellent value!
Great "starter" guitar
Bought one of these for a friend's 10-year-old son. Unboxed it, tuned it, checked the intonation... and played it for almost an hour !! Beautiful woodwork and sweet sounding... in a small package.
Thank you, Kevin Spunde (Sweetwater Rep,) for your suggestion(s) that led to this purchase.
a very nice travel guitar
Right out of the box it plays great. Great sound and playability. Ibanez always seems to go a little overboard with their quality based on the price of there guitar. For the money its perfect!!
Great Guitar, Great Value
The guitar played decently it of the box. Saddle and neck relief were just right. I lowered the fret slots a bit and the action was perfect. The mahogany top gives it a mellow tone which is needed with a smaller guitar which otherwise would be too bright. The light stain on the mahogany top makes this a beautiful instrument. Great guitar, great value. Sweetwater shipped it with lightning speed.
Lovely instrument w/ a wonderful mellow tone
This guitar sounds well. It's one that plays bigger than it is but you can still tell it's not a full size. Wonderful sound tho. While a lot of that warmth is attributed to the wood, which is a bit puzzling to be called Mahogany when the wood is actually Sapele not even a direct cousin to MH but still of the same primary genus. I guess that is all that matters. Anyway, mine came with two bridge rests and the one in the bag will lower the action even more making it a real easy player. I find it difficult to play beyond the second fret with a capo but I have basketball palming hands and bought it for my neice to learn on. I do play it much more than I expected to when I bought it and it changed my opinion of HPL forever. In fact it is solid wood guitars for me from now on. I'll be ordering another all solid wood acoustic soon from Ibanez and James here in one of the full size models. I'm leaning toward the PF54 and installing some Grover tuners, a bone bridge rest and nut and more but I may get one a step up or two from that I have not decided. In the mean time I'm enjoying my other purchases from SW.
Little guitar does Good!
I bought this little guitar for my Grandson's birthday, but it's a couple of weeks away so I'm jammin' on it! Plays very well and the craftsmanship for the price is pretty high. the tone is a bit weak, but it's new and small, so it can't project that much, but he's going to LOVE it!! Thanks Kevin for directing me to this fine purchase!
Great guitar
This is a great 3/4 size guitar. Bought it for my 10 year old granddaughters birthday, she loves it and is learning fast.
Ibanez quality is always good. Sweetwater never fails to have just what I want, with excellent service.
It may not be a WOW, but it's a fine little guitar...! I have an Ibanez AVM10 and both have a special jumpy-yes-I'm-ready sound that must be particular to Ibanez' great guitars. At first it sounds quite thin, but mellows out as it's played. The action is very good, it stays in tune reasonably well, especially during a day of playing, and it comes with it's own gig bag.
Best 3/4 i've played!
I like this real wood guitar better than my Little Martin. The Little Martin might be a bit more durable for travel, but the sound is more full and rich from the ibanez.
I had no trouble with my tuners, they're not high end but very adequate. Set up was nice too, I lowered the action slightly, nothing else.
Mine was a demo from Sweetwater and i'm very pleased with the guitar and ALL aspects of the purchase!
Excellent, probably the best for the price.
My 10 year old son needed a starter guitar but I know better than to buy those garbage toy guitars. This guitar plays very well, holds time better than anything I ever had growing up and the sound is decent.
I put a set of elixir strings on it and it sounds and plays great. Hard to put down. You won't find a better 3/4 size for the price anywhere.
Seriously solid for the price
My 10 year old son is very musical and wanted to learn guitar. I bought him this to learn on. Cheap guitars only make kids get frustrated and QUIT. This is so far above the toy guitars you find at big box stores. First ACT garbage. When I got it I tuned it up and jammed on it for hours. very easy to play, very kid friendly with really low action. I swapped out the strings to some light gauge elixers and it is a dream. Frets are kinda rough, but a little filling will make them smooth.
For the money, if you're looking for a starter guitar that is not garage, this is what you want.
Good for the price
Good for the money, was able to pull the scratch plate off like it was a sticker, but I personally don't mind how it looks without it.
Great
A good starter/travel guitar. Was skeptical of the 3/4 length at first. Although, now love it.
Overall, nice but...
Note that Sweetwater's 'star' ratings are different than most other 5-star evaluations so I'm giving this a four star rating based on cost/value.
I played one of these in the Ft. Wayne showroom and having recently lost a travel guitar in an accident I decided to take one home. I'm very happy with the size, sound, quality of body build, wood finish and neck shape, and the tuners are no better or worse than what I'd expect...
I was disappointed in the fret buzz from the 5th - 13th frets on the A and D strings and the rough finish (not just unpolished - rough) on quite a few of the frets. I was hoping a mild relief tweak would address the buzz, but further checking indicated enough high spots to warrant a leveling then recrowning of frets. Not a big deal for an enthusiast, but the cost of that work would have been excessive for this guitar if paying someone else to do it. Pleased with my front-porch and camping guitar now!
3/4=100%
This 3/4 size open pore mahogany dreadnaught guitar is a perfect pick for a young player who you wish would not be discouraged by a poor quality student sized instrument. This guitar is easy to handle for a child or smaller adult player, and can also be a used as a travel sized guitar by most adults with an average sized hand. The action was good right out of the box, and the tone of the guitar is very pleasing considering the relatively small size of the sound box. The mahogany wood gives a rich, mellow sound to the instrument, and though it does not project with the volume of a full sized dreadnaught, it does make accurate notes during both fingerpicking and light to medium strumming. This is a real guitar, not a toy, just in a reduced size, so even as a younger player might grow into a full sized instrument, they would likely want to keep this one to use as a travel guitar, or to practice at home while on the couch when the lower volume and softer sound might be more desirable. The fit and finish of the guitar is well done, and the tuners, frets, fingerboard and neck are all "player friendly". I have already brought mine along to play for friends and family in small gatherings, and the smaller size (approx 35" from top to bottom) and included gig bag made it easy to transport. I have also found it perfect for playing while sitting on the couch or recliner, as the smaller body fits there with less arm strain versus a full sized instrument. A really good value when compared to some of the other travel sized guitars out there, and a good first instrument for a younger player starting out.
Ibanez acoustic
My first buying experience with Sweetwater was a great success! I was skeptical, but had an opportunity to purchase a "first guitar" for my nephew. I wasn't spending much money so I decided to try Sweetwater! Score! Yes...it's a $130 guitar, and it sounds like one, but it's well built, tuned right up, and is still in tune after banging away for several hours! The packaging was good and the guitar was in perfect shape! I called my Sweetwater rep, Nick, and we chatted about guitars in general for a while...GREAT customer service! He treated me like I had just bought a $5000 Gibson or something!
Nice job Sweetwater!
Ibanez PF2MH Natural
Fantastic deal for the price. Tuners are not great, and action needed to be adjusted, but can't beat it for the price.
Ibanez PF2MH Natural 3/4 size
I bought this little guitar a few weeks ago.
Set up was good right out of the box, That is a first....the Mahogany looks nice and this little thing feels and sounds good. Changed the strings to Elixirs 12-53, oiled the fret board etc....
IMHO...My biggest issue is with the cheep tuners.
Look for a guitar with better tuners or replace them.
All in all good for the price.
Sour chords, could not hold their tune
Bought 3 of these for my class in school but was surprised to find such a lack of quality, since we have other Ibanez guitars and really enjoy them. We sent them back, disappointed.
Read other reviews, took a chance-
Ordered this, sent it to the daughter's home in GA to have while we were there on vacation to play for the grandkids. That was early 2020, plague hit, we didn't get there till 2022. I got hold of this guitar and it was the WORST I ever had my hands on! I adjusted the truss rod a bit- got the action pretty decent but the bridge intonation was SO off that if you play above the 3rd fret it was awful!
Grandkids might be able to learn open chords at the nut on this but outside that it's junk.
Skip it.
Bland tone, the back of the body bends if you apply the slightest bit of pressure, and the nut fell off when I took the stock strings off. Save up another $100 and buy something that won't break.
