PDP Concept Limited Edition Maple/Walnut Snare Drum - 6.5 x 14-inch - Matte Natural Reviews

6.5" x 14" Maple/Walnut Snare Drum with Triple-flanged Hoops - Natural

Beneath its furniture-grade good looks, this 20-ply PDP snare packs explosive power. The PDP Limited Edition Maple/Walnut Snare Drum blends a 16-ply core of European maple with inner and outer plies (two each) of rich, present walnut, for not just serious output, but a crisp, dry tone and premier looks to match. The shell's Natural Satin finish really brings out the character in the wood. Triple-flanged hoops and a complement of DW-inspired hardware — Dual Turret lugs and a MAG magnetic throw off — unlock the best this snare has to offer. Whether you're looking for focus, power, or luxury, you'll find it here in the PDP Limited Edition Maple/Walnut Snare Drum from Sweetwater.

Fantastic snare!

By ethan on December 21, 2022 Music Background: primarily guitar, bass, piano, mandolin

Ok, I can't say I've played a ton of snares in my life. I bought mine as a demo several months ago, and out of the box it sounded like crap. But tuning it (using the tuning philosophy of "Sounds Like A Drum" channel on YouTube) and it sounds fantastic with the stock heads. I'll replace them when they wear out. No muffling needed unless revoicing the kit for a specific reason.

It does low, medium and high tunings great, has great sensitivity and dynamics for 6.5" deep (probably due to the super-thick and sturdy walls). Believe it or not, I use it with a low volume compact kit and it works well in that context thanks to its great dynamic range and sensitivity, while retaining plenty of headroom. It's got a nice fat sound to it.

The hardware seems really sturdy, the throw-off feels great (the snare wire was also incorrectly installed, so that was another thing I corrected in getting it to sound its best), and it's got a great on the fly tension adjustment if you want it sloppy, tight, or just right.

Plus it just looks plain cool as a piece of furniture. That's always (but only) a bonus.

The resonance

By Lucas twist from Vista california on September 25, 2019 Music Background: I started playing drums about 12 years and I've marched in a drum core for 4 years and I have been center snare for 3 years (at the time of wrighting this I an 15 years old)

The thick 20-ply shell with the stock coated head hat some overtones which were amazing but after I put the remo emperor coated it sounded amazing all around great drum it is kind of heavy to carry around though but it's worth it its amazing for gigs

Sounds as Great as it Looks!

By ginosgroove from houston, tx on April 15, 2019 Music Background: Private Instructor and Professional Drummer

With a factory coated head by Remo for DW Drums, this drum sounded great after a little personal tuning. I was searching for a 6.5 wooden snare and found what I needed in this particular snare. Sounds as great as it looks! Limited Edition too? Yes, thank you!

Sound and power

Have had this snare for a year now. Great right out of the box. Put on a Evans G1 coated head and that made a huge difference. Love this snare drum.
