PDP New Yorker 4-piece Shell Pack - Pale Rose Sparkle Reviews

4-piece Poplar Shell Pack with 10" Tom, 13" Floor Tom, 16" Bass Drum, and 14" Snare - Pale Rose Sparkle

When you’re playing small venues, busking, or just jamming at home, a full-sized drum kit may be more than you need. With an incredible sound that won’t overwhelm a smaller space, the PDP New Yorker is an ideal compact kit. Drummers at Sweetwater noted that the all-poplar shells deliver a clear attack and a focused resonance. Thoughtfully selected shell depths and diameters balance tone and portability, and low-mass teardrop mini-turret lugs contribute to the New Yorker drum kit’s reduced weight. The PDP New Yorker also includes a bass drum riser to elevate the 16-inch kick drum into your kick pedal’s strike zone. For a grab-and-go kit with stellar sound, you can’t go wrong with the PDP New Yorker.

Amazing drums for a great price!

By Justin from New castle on August 24, 2022 Music Background: 20 years of drumming with several bands

Iv had a few sets but this was my first brand new drum set and let me just say how impressed I was with these little guys. Iv been playing on a 22" bass and was very worried about getting sound from the kick. With some muffling and extra love I got the perfect kick that give so much punch and attack. The toms are fantastic and I'm so impressed with the tone I get out of the 10,13 combo. Have long the full size snare is the icing on the cake. Most portable drum sets have a 13" snare. The finish is amazing and pictures never give it justice. If you are needing a gig set that won't break the bank definitely go with this one.

Don't let the low price fool you! After owning this kit for the last year, it's simply amazing! I bought kits costing 3 times more and I don't feel they are much better than what I have in this kit good for anything and everything I'd buy this thing again.

PDP NEW YORKER SHELL PACK- PALE ROSE SPARKLE

By Ronnie from So Cal on November 9, 2020 Music Background: Retired pro.

This is a beautiful well made kit. The DW heritage is evident. I didn't have to muffle the kick! Heads aren't bad. Remo made quality. Great sounding bass drum and Snare. I did replace the snare resonant head with a hazy and fresh snare wires from Gibraltar. I also purchased a snare stand and cymbal stand in the DW Ultralight flat base series. Great quality! Perfect size for any gig requiring a smaller footprint. Perfect for recording in studios. The beautiful Pale Rose Sparkle is amazing looking. This is a bargain.

Got this for my 13-year old daughter, but I have been using it for practice while waiting for a new kit. Sounds good and is fun to play.

A Very Happy 4 Year-old and Fun for Grandpa too.

I bought the pink New Yorker kit from PDP/DW along with the PDP 800 series hardware and the Zildjain 4 piece i series rock pack. The kit, hardware, and cymbals were packed pretty well. No damage was sustained during shipping. It has been 30 years since I had assembled a kit but it was pretty straight forward. It took about 90 minutes to unpack and setup the entire kit except for final tuning. If there was anything that was not familiar it was the bass drum riser which I had never had one previously. The bass pedal attaches to the riser which is attached to the underside of the kick. It's pretty straight forward after watching a single YouTube video on it. This was bought for my granddaughter who we are helping to raise. And also, maybe me as well. I did have to cut down the center tube to the throne for the tall 4 year old. I also lowered and tilted the toms and snare. But it all fits her fairly well. Of course, It has room to grow with her. The stock heads sound ok and good enough to let her run through those before spending more for better heads right away. I also bought drum dots which work really well to limit the sustaining ring. Tuning the heads was a little harder than I remembered it to be. After about 2 hours, I finally found the settings I liked for all heads. If there is anything a little annoying, it would be the wing nuts on the hardware. Some are hard to get tight and then after playing for a few hours, they need to be tightened again. After the second tightening, they seem to keep their tension and have not become loosened anymore. I think it may be one of those break in things to perform. The same is true with the head tension. I don't think the tension rods are loosening, rather, it is the heads stretching and needing to be adjusted (retuned). It does not take much turning the rods to make a difference. Just be careful of tuning too high. A drill and small ratchet with a drum key on each really helped this. I would not have wanted to tune the set using only a key. I think you get a pretty solid kit for what it is. The wrap is a pretty cool look and the shells are all pretty solid. The bearing edges are pretty precise and the heads mount as they should. I am very happy with the solid feel and look of the kit for being used as a practice kit, and amazing for being used as a kids kit. We have not yet had to transport it but think that if we ever need to, the compact and light weight design is a bonus. I do wish that there were add on options such as a 9x12, or 7x8 rack toms and a 16" floor tom. I would add on as she developed.
