First the pros: It's sturdy, the base is wide (22" between legs) and it's reasonably priced. I've been used this for multiple gigs (it's part of my "to-go" kit I use on most gigs). When I first got it, I was really impressed by the new technology in the clutch...how long since there's been any new tech in a HH clutch, right??? That clip-on concept seemed like an invention comparable to sliced bread. However, a few months ago as I was pulling it out of my truck, that clip-on part popped off... leading me to wonder... Hmmm, that would be bad had I not seen it and found it.
Which leads me to the con: It I arrived at a gig last night, putting my cymbals on about 25 minutes before we are to start and, yup. that clip-on Doo-Hicky is nowhere in sight. Thank God my brother was watching our dogs at my hose (only 20 minutes away) and was able to grab another HH stand and rush it down to me after our second song.
Hopefully more feedback of this nature finds its way to PDP and they can get their crack engineers to come up with a better design... I dunno... on that screws on an off and won't pop off on its own.
Whilst I originally loved the idea of somethin new in a hi hat clutch design, it resulted in an epic fail at a crucial moment. So now, I gotta buy a whole new clutch... I wonder if I should reward PDP with repeat business... I'm thinkin, I'm thinkin...

This is a great stand...I've used it on a few gigs already and can tell this will stay dependable a long time. The engineering is solid. The weight is not light, but it's not overly heavy. The only reason I didn't give it a 5-star rating is because the legs are pretty stiff sliding up and down the post when setting up and breaking down. I have to use both hands and a third point of contact to raise all 3 legs at once. Lowering the legs is not as difficult. I waxed the post in order to keep it looking shiny as long as possible and also in hopes it would ease the glide...but alas, not so much. The composite collar lock is a new innovation I've not seen before. I like it but can't help wondering if it will last as long as the stand does. Same for the "quick release" clutch...it's a nice, but in reality, I'm not sure if it saves more than about 2 seconds since it requires both hands and a firm grip to take on and off. I do love the rubber sleeve on the rod so that your cymbals are not in contact with metal. But I'm a long-term kinda guy... (I have drums and gear made in the 60's that's still going strong). I'm doubtful the bells and whistles will go the duration of the main thing. Regardless of my negative comments, this is a good stand, and I plan to work it for years to come. Let's drum!
