Works great!

By Sweetwater Customer

Very well made and very versatile. I was able to place the stacked cymbal exactly where I wanted it above my ride cymbal. Money well spent.

PDP PDAX909 Concept Series Cymbal Stacker

By Sweetwater Customer

The product works great! So many positions. Being a relatively new drummer it took me several tries to get it where I wanted it. Just to many options for my brain to absorb. More experienced drummers would have no problem. Great product.

Handy for theater work where space is tight

By Sweetwater Customer from Cleveland, Ohio
Music Background: Professional jazz, pop, theater

The unit is sturdy enough to mount larger cymbals, but in such cases (and where the cymbals are typically tilted toward the player), the device must be adjusted so that the higher cymbal is to the RIGHT of the lower cymbal. Otherwise, gravity will unscrew the unit from the base cymbal stand just enough for the higher cymbal to revolve counterclockwise to the six o'clock position, where it will obscure the lower cymbal.

To avoid this problem, the part that screws into your base cymbal stand has a drum-key screw that acts directly on the very top end-point of the base stand to put the threads under tension and thus increase friction between them. This works fine with lightweight splashes, but with heavier cymbals, like a big china, the gravity-torque issue described above comes into play.

Each infinitely adjustable tilter uses a rubber o-ring to supply the necessary friction. The ring in one of the two tilters in my unit seemed to be thinner than the other one, and it comes out of its track under tension, but still works well enough. I can't find that PDP supplies replacement o-rings, but the good news is that they are readily available from many sources; I bought some extras at the Home Depot. (They are 1-3/4 in x 1-1/2 in x 1/8 in.)

None of this is to suggest that I'm not satisfied with this purchase. It's been working perfectly since I got it set up and adjusted. I also bought more PDP Concept clamps for other set-up applications, because you can use any length rod you want between the clamps.
