Arrived in perfect condition

The set up was spot on. The P bass plays like expected. Sweetwater is always great to be work with. My personal engineer, Mitch, is more like a friend than a Sweetwater salesman.

When the rubber meets the road.

By Nicholas Mazzuca from WILMINGTON, DE on May 24, 2023

There is something so great about the simplicity of a P Bass.

For a little background, I've been playing bass for over 20 years and have owned some very nice basses. I also currently own some really fantastic American made P basses as well.

Overall fit and finish - 90%.
At this price point, I expected some annoying flaws and this one came with relatively few. The only things that I really noticed were some paint buildup underneath the neck joint and some wonkily(is that a word?) installed tone and volume knobs.

Bridge and tuners work perfectly and the nut is cut beautifully. Not too high or too low. Fret work is outstanding. No sharp ends at all and the frets don't seem like they will need any sanding. Paint job is stellar!

Setup- 70%.
This was to be expected. Even American fenders come with neck relief and saddle height that a small child could fit through. If you know how to set relief and adjust your bridge, this is a totally easy fix. I was able to get the action super low with very little if any buzzing up the neck.

Pickups - 100%.
If an American fender came with these pickups, I would be fully satisfied and even impressed. I love how they sound. Snappy high mids and balanced, not in your face low mids like some p bass pickups can have. The lows are very well balanced.

Overall. I LOVE this bass. My other p basses all have mods, but I am keeping this one fully stock.

When the rubber meets the road, a P bass is really all you need and this bass will fit the bill.

Outstanding Performance and Quality

By Brian from New Jersey on April 22, 2023 Music Background: Over 40 years of playing and gigging.

I wanted to get another passive bass to replace an older Jazz bass. Decided to go back to a P-Bass as most of my recent purchases have been active basses. I really was not expecting much as I haven't played a new Fender in quite some time. When the bass arrived I was very impressed with the quality. Of course the 50+ point inspection made sure it was basically perfect right out of the box. Thank you Sweetwater. This bass plays perfectly, neck is very comfortable and easy to play and the pick-ups blew me away ! So much better than any of the fenders that I've previously owned. Powerful and great tone. Overall super satisfied and will be looking at another Fender in the future. Can't forget my sales consultant Lindsey Becker who has always been on point with sales info and excellent customer service.

Blown Away

By Ash Mahapatra from Houston, TX on February 9, 2023 Music Background: Guitarist, Engineer, Producer

I'm a guitarist and amateurish-producer. Bought this to complete my home studio. Plugged this bad boy in, and was blown away by the rich P-bass sound.

The setup was perfect out of the box. Just wish it came with a gig bag.

Shout out to Sweetwater and Ben Elder for another awesome purchasing experience!

A good buy

The sound, the feel, the style..it's all awesome. No apparent quality control issues.

NICE!!

The polar white is beautiful. The neck is straight and plays awesomely. Just needed to adjust the strings to my liking and this bass sounds so good!

Great Precision Bass for the money!

By Kevin McDonald from Cleveland, Ohio on November 26, 2019 Music Background: Professional

First of all, getting a 8 lb P bass is like finding the Holy Grail! The weight of any bass I purchase is a huge factor due to my arthritic back. I love the fact that Sweetwater takes the time to list the weight on all their basses. This bass is killer, great tone, that P bass growl. The made in Mexico line years ago was not that great, Fender has corrected that big time with the Player series and more recently the Vintera line. Like I said an 8 pound Precision bass is like winning the lottery, well maybe not that....but it’s up there!

Awesome Bass !!!

By Davyo from Las Vegas on August 24, 2019 Music Background: Pro player

I"m a longtime pro bassist and this Player Series Fender MIM P Bass is by far one of the nicest bass" I"ve ever purchased.

The maple fretboard and Polar White color is a great combination, it"s very pretty.

The neck on this Player is not thick and chunky like every MIA P Bass I"ve ever owned or checked out, the Player Series neck is definitely very comfortable, almost a Jazz bass feel to the neck while still being a P Bass neck.

I absolutely love the Polar White color, it"s a true white, very white.

It came perfectly set-up from Sweetwater and the shipping was fast as well.

This bass also sounds amazing !!!!

Of all the bass"s I have ever purchased I can definitely say this one is a keeper.

This "is" the bass I will keep for life and never sell.

Thanks again Sweetwater for the excellent set-up, right out of the box and it plays like butter.

Cheers, Davyo

Great buy!

By DT from Nashville on January 22, 2019 Music Background: trained singer, self-taught drummer, beginning bass player

Taught myself to play drums originally, but decided I wanted to branch out and try to wrap my head around something with strings. This bass is wonderful for a beginner or a seasoned player. The range of sound is amazing (coupled with a Fender Rumble 100), and the look and feel are awesome, too.

IMPRESSIVE!

By RICK from NJ on December 3, 2018 Music Background: WEEKEND GIGGER

I am really happy with this bass. I have a USA 50's reissue P bass and this Player Series actually plays better. The neck is absolutely perfect and the satin finish on the back of neck feels like silk. I play through a 1980's Peavey TNT combo amp with a 15" speaker and I can't believe the sound. I might buy the Jazz model next.

Great bass

This bass is fantastic and as always, Sweetwater continues to be the best website to purchase all things music.

Bass of a Lifetime

By Bob Amato from West Coast on October 11, 2018

I have been a musician for 48 years and have had PLENTY of guitars and basses. It is very rare that you find an instrument that is perfect in just about every way. I ordered the Polar White with maple board. I am VERY particular about my tone and this bass does not disappoint. The back of the neck has a light satin finish that feels amazing to the touch. One of the biggest issues I have with instruments is weight. I have several guitars and basses that are on the lighter side. This bass is one of those. It is in the 8 lb range and it is visually beautiful also. I plan on getting a tortoise pickguard, but am happy with what it came with. This is the best bass I have ever played and I have had many very high dollar boutique basses, none of them can match this axe. Buy one before Fender wakes up and jacks up the price.

Love "em"

By Jim Stinnett from New Hampshire on August 27, 2018 Music Background: Retired teacher from Berklee College

This white one is outstanding. I now own five of these Player Series Ps and they are excellent quality instruments for the price. Sounds like a good vintage bass, plays like butter, and feels "right."
I make music educational videos and have now recorded with these basses extensively. The neck is straight and accurately in tune, all the way up.

This is the best P bass Fender has made in quite a while. I give the "Player" my highest recommendation.

Playable but Had a Few Minor Imperfections

By Guitar Quackery from NYC on March 21, 2024 Music Background: Guitar Repair Technician

Every instrument should be looked at individually, regardless of make &B model. The P-bass I had on my workbench had a few minor issues, but overall it was playable. The customer did receive the bass with a significant up-bow of the neck, as it appeared that the truss rod was not tightened. One of the biggest complaints was the neck pocket, which had visible gaps.

Please see video.

Disappointing

By Mike from Southern California on May 11, 2019 Music Background: Drums, Bass, Paino and Guitar

I have received 4 of these basses from Sweetwater thus far, all have had problems. From sharp fret ends (Fender Mexico just doesn't seem to do the finish work that one would expect.) sharp edges on the nuts, a ground wire that was disconnected, uneven frets, a 12th fret that is sticking up with a sharp end on the treble side of the neck, not to mention varying weights from 8 to 9 pounds, the 8 pound bass that I got was neck heavy, the 9 pound basses are well balanced. Most of these issues are due to Fender's quality control it seems, but the techs at Sweetwater missed them all in their 55 point inspections and paid set-up work. Sweetwater's customer service has been outstanding. However I feel like I made a mistake in finally getting the Fender P-Bass I've always wanted. The bass I'm trying to keep is now in the shop waiting on Fender to approve repairing the 12th fret issue. Fender seems in no hurry to help it's customers. If you can afford a made in America Fender they may be better but the Mexican basses have been a disappointment so far. On the brighter side they look very nice and the pickups sound great.
