Surprised!

By Kipp Harrington on September 30, 2022

I received this bass as a Christmas gift from my wonderfully thoughtful wife. It is on the heavy side but that just makes it feel "old school". The neck has a thicker profile than many Squier basses, but I have grown to really like it. The stock pup sounds great! It gets more "bite" and clarity than one would expect from a single coil, 50s style pup. This bass gets many rave reviews... and for good reason. I truly enjoy playing this bass and the sound and feel are fantastic! Play one first if you get a chance. It took me some time to get used to how/where to rest my plucking/picking hand. The pickup is recessed a bit and I wouldn't recommend using it as an anchor for the thumb. However, this caused me to find a different way of positioning my right hand and I am thankful for this. I own 6 basses and this is in my #2 fave. I added a custom abalone pickguard and a pickup cover (ashtray)... such a great, classy look! Very pleased with it.

I was just blown away !

By Kenneth Skaggs from El Paso, TX on March 12, 2021 Music Background: Multi Instrumentalist, Stringed Instrument Luthier

First off I thought to myself "I need a Bass" and starting looking and when I seen this deal and for price, I said What the Hell. This was my first Squier and for the money why not. I had always liked the original P Bass, I just didn't want one in a Sunburst. I was in awe by the White Blonde. When I got her out of the case I was just blown completely away ! I expected something less of what I got. Almost completely Flawless ! There were two screws that were loose than normal and had to tweak the intonation and the action and relief were on the money. i haven't plugged her in yet but she plays very well and feel the sturdiness of the Instrument itself. i am going to do a couple of upgrades on her like the Pickguard wiring and a Bridge replacement in the near future. All in all this Instrument is worth every penny ! You just can't go wrong on this buy !

Great Sound--Low Cost

By Steve Castle on May 28, 2020 Music Background: Studio and live performances

First thing is that Jed Elliott and Sweetwater continue to prove why they are my go to store. The Squire Classic Vibe 50s Precision Bass is more than I expected. With a little tweaking to set it up to my style of playing, it plays and sounds like a bass that costs much more. I have several bass guitars and I'm enjoying playing this one more than the others by far. I love this bass. If you buy one you won't be disappointed.

Plays really nice but not quite as close action as I would like, but close.
I did add "Lollipop" tuners for the look.

Surprised

This bass is great right out of packaging. My agent Jacob Agee always come through for me, all the time.Bass was delivered in 2 days, but gave it a 3rd day to warm up, winter weather, to room temperature. The color is so much beautiful than the photos showed. I have over 22 basses and this one will a lot of gigs this year. If you are seasoned or looking for an entry level bass, you won't be disappointed. Give Jacob a call, I know he will take care of you. Happy Playing.

Almost perfect, some stuff to consider

By Loren from Tampa Fl on June 15, 2020 Music Background: Producer and Touring musician

Superb bass, vintage looks, feel, and tone are on point

electronics and hardware have been solid for the studio applications I've been putting it through. However, I think if I were to bring this on tour, it would be best suited with upgrades like a HiMass bridge and authentic fender tuners.

The neck is super glossy so I sanded the back of it down so my thumb wasn't catching as I slid betwee frets.

One quirk is that the single pickup responds super different if you pluck on the bridge side (fatter and more saturated low end) versus the neck side (aggressive bite, I prefer this)

The 50s-60s style bridge saddles with multiple notches for more options in string spacing may annoy those who like the simplicity of the 70s-present bridge with one notch per saddle, but other than that, this is simple as any P-Bass should be

less is more

By michael from gainesville florida on September 5, 2020 Music Background: 50 years of bass playing

Pros: ease of play, vintage sound, simplicity of tone control and purity of tone when you roll back the pup a little and great classic growl up full.
Cons: a wide thick strap needed because of weight, why is it so heavy? Adjustments needed to get full tone and volume out of strings, nut is plastic, and color is blah...none of which matters that much as it plays right out of the box.
Workmanship and feel of a much more expensive model.

Fit And Finish Is Good But Playability Is Mediocre

By G-Man from Wolf359 on September 28, 2020 Music Background: Semi Professional

The fit and finish of this bass is really good but the playability of this bass leaves a lot to be desired. The bass itself is nice looking and the paint and clear coat are nicely applied but that's where it ends. It arrived with the fairly high action even after the Sweetwater techs checked the set up. I took it to my trusted luthier who is a master luthier and is a factory approved tech for all the big name brands including Fender, Gibson, Rickenbacker, Taylor, etc., etc. and he was able to get the action a little lower but he could not get the action any lower without substantial fretwork beyond the price of just a normal set-up. So in a last ditch effort I am going to try to use shims to try to make it more playable and lower the action. Did I get one that was just one of the duds? That's very possible but I think it's more along the line of you get what you pay for. I own a number of American made Fender basses and they all were in a different league playability wise, so I figure that when you pay $... for a bass you can't expect the quality and playability of a $1,200. bass. Just my two cents worth.......

sweetwaters amazing customer service

By Josh on December 27, 2020

As always sweetwater was great, quick, and helpful making the situation right! That being said this is the worst feeling Bass I've ever played. Truly I've played $100 dollar starter kit basses that were better. QC was just not there at all, rough frets, oddest feeling neck, and sounded awful. The first thing I did after plugging it in and hearing how terrible it sounded was adjusting everything. No matter what adjustments I made, it wouldn't stay in tune and wouldn't sound week and thin and at the same time boomer in the Low E string. I previously owned a 51' reissue MIJ p bass and I wasn't expecting that quality but it wasn't even close to what I hoped.
