Fender Aerodyne Special Precision Bass - Bright White Reviews

4-string Electric Bass with Basswood Body, Maple Neck, Rosewood Fingerboard, and 1 Split-coil Pickup - Bright White

Fender’s Aerodyne Special Precision Bass combines the best of contemporary style, modern performance, and rich vintage tone! From the bound body to the signature aerodynamic lines, this is no ordinary P Bass, and the combination of its sleek design and lightweight basswood body offer an incredibly comfortable feel during even the longest of sets. While this bass might appear futuristic on the outside, under the hood it’s all vintage Fender, boasting an Aerodyne Special Precision Bass Pickup that more than delivers on the fat low end and popping midrange that makes Fender’s first 4-string a perennial favorite of Sweetwater's bass players. Add in the rosewood-on-maple neck’s Modern “C” profile and the full contact Babicz Z-series FCH-4 bridge, and you have an ultra-stable, high-performance instrument that’s ready to take on the stage or studio with classic P Bass punch.

Unbeatable value

By Steven Metcalf from Lakewood, CO on January 15, 2024 Music Background: Principal Bass - Colorado Symphony

The Fender Precision Aerodyne Bass offers great value, tone, and playability that has me totally impressed. Its exceptional craftsmanship and outstanding playability are truly remarkable, and the finish on the neck stands out as a highlight. Kudos to the talented individuals at Fender Japan for delivering such a phenomenal instrument.

The neck of this bass is not only smooth and fast, but also incredibly comfortable to navigate across the 12" radiused fretboard. I visited a brick-and-mortar store to compare the Aerodyne with a few Precision APII's, and the Aerodyne surpassed them in terms of playability and comfort. The neck, in particular, is exceptional. Unbelievably smooth fretwork on top of a perfect rosewood fingerboard. Fender Japan deserves recognition for their superior quality control and attention to detail, setting a standard that the Corona factory could learn from. The nut is finished perfectly on mine. The relief on the board from Sweetwater came in exactly at .010 just the way I like it.

As another reviewer pointed out, the neck pocket is immaculate, and the fit and finish throughout are superior to the APII's I played in store. However, it is possible that the APII's I tried were just stinkers...

While my only concern revolves around the basswood body potentially collecting dings more easily than its Alder APII counterparts, I am committed to being more careful. If you've been yearning for this axe and its standout finish, don't hesitate to make the purchase — I think it's truly worth it.

My P bass search stopped here.

I was in the market for an American made P bass. I was ready to spend more money on a Pro II model. My main player was an Aerodyne PJ that I really love, so I went to a brick and mortar store that had the Pro II and this Aerodyne in stock. After trying them both back to back, there was no contest. The neck on the Pro II felt like a sticky baseball bat in comparison. This Aerodyne is super smooth, thin, and fast. It's probably because I"m used to gigging my Aerodyne PJ, but this bass just felt like home. There was zero reason to spend extra money. This bass is the perfect anti twin to my PJ. Even my wife was shocked that I went with the less expensive option.

Sweetwater beat the brick and mortar price significantly. However if the price was the same, I still would have gone with Sweetwater. There was a problem with my original purchase (the shipping company's fault, not Sweetwater) but Sweetwater had impeccable customer service as always. They made it right, and I couldn't be happier with this purchase.

I originally bought some La Bella flats to go on this, but I wasn't thrilled with them even though I've loved them on other basses. After 5 string changes with strings I had laying around, I finally settled on some La Bella copper white nylon tapes. Those hit the sweet spot for me and I've been gigging that combination since.

If you want a basic P bass with a faster neck than the American P basses and great build quality, this is it.

I love my Sweetwater.

And just like that.... I was checking out basses on Sweetwater, saw this Fender Aerodyne in bright white and fell in love. It was then that I found out what it was. Slam the door. I ordered it that Tuesday night. it arrived at my door at 11:47 am Friday. perfect. I mean perfect, this guitar is so awesome, the most amazing display of midtones I have ever owned. Thanks again Micheal Oskam and the crew at Sweetwater.

Does the Fender precision and use a 9-volt battery or is it just solid wood

Great bass

I own a lot of guitars, so Ive seen different levels of craftsmanship and I have to say this Japanese made bass is among the best I have seen. The neck to body fit is superb as well as the hardware alignment and fret quality. The Rosewood board is probably the best Ive seen on a guitar. It sounds like a P bass should and it plays flawlessly. The flatter radius on the fretboard is different than my other basses, but it's not difficult to get used to. If you are looking for a P bass you should definitely try one of these out. The one thing I have to point out is that it does have some neck dive when playing standing with a strap. I will probably take some automotive adhesive wheel weights and stick them on the inside of the plastic cover for the electronics cavity where they won't be seen. I think a couple of ounces will be enough to balance the guitar.

Love this bass!

Had my eye on an Aerodyne for some time, but I was actually looking for a new PJ, and found this one on sale. Plays fantastic, great quality, my go-to guitar now. Keep an eye on the neck, it will dive on ya. But with some flat wounds, I get some awesome sounds and play out of this guitar.
