The last bass you'll ever buy
(Written about 2 months after purchase)
This would be a 10/10 bass even without the active electronics and the super handy EQ's. The neck on these Ultra Precisions is the fastest I've encountered on a P-bass. From the nut to the heel, it's just smooth as butter. You know you're playing a good neck when you don't have to "think" about it while playing; when it just feels like an extension of your limb. It opens up a ton of creativity when you know you can just plug in and start rippin' away.
I mostly do studio recording, playing almost exclusively DI through a 1073 and/or a RNDI. I've never had any issues with passive pickups before. Well, that was until I was spoiled with the active electronics in the Ultra P-bass. Upon flipping this bass into active mode for the first time I was blown away. I've been playing and recording bass for years and hearing the active electronics was a big "aha" moment for sure. The low end is so powerful, so well-defined.. and, there's a consistency to it, as if I don't have to reach for compression as much. (but I will anyways because it is fun!) I'm the type of mixer who prefers to rely on their gear rather than relying on the mix, and this P-bass allows me to do just that.
(full disclosure, I actually bought this bass... and I never even tried the active electronics or messed with any of the knobs until after I bought it and took it home. The SINGLE determining factor was just the feel of the instrument. The neck instantly felt better than all the other P-basses I had tried, and the body vibrated the "right" way when it was unplugged from the amp. In my experience, in order to get a certain bass sound in a recording, like a DI, the instrument itself must vibrate properly.. otherwise you'll waste extra money trying to upgrade pickups when the neck and body are the problem. Anyways, the feel on this bass is amazing, and WOW the active electronics and fine-tuning EQs make for one heck of a recording and gigging tool!)
This one's a forever instrument. I've already made a ton of music in the short time that I've owned this bass, and I intend on making much much more with it. Go buy one before Fender figures out how to **** it up for us! ;)
The pinnacle
I'm going to begin by addressing something I read on 2 different "Cons" lists about this bass from reputable sources: "There are other basses with these features that cost less." After extensive research I've learned that is completely wrong. Find an active and passive PJ bass with bass/mid/treble EQ and an 18 volt preamp. Add a high mass bridge and one of the list beautiful finishes I've ever seen on an instrument and NO, you can NOT find a similar bass in this range.
This bass is, pure and simple, the best and most diverse PJ bass you can buy. Throw some fender flats on it. I started with La Bella flats (which are amazing) but the fender flats have a little more bite and that's what I wanted. The modern neck design make it super playable and it's much lighter than other basses with this type of preamp. I bought it for under $2000 and now it's more expensive. It's never getting cheaper.
I really love this bass. Played a fender jazz bass for 20 years and now this is my primary bass.
Simply the best bass I've ever held
Where do I begin? This bass is absolutely flawless in every way, Fender quality control is over the top. This bass is second to none in it's price range, from the noiseless pickups to the finest components this bass guitar is the best, plays like a dream. And as far as my sales engineer goes he, James Masterson is very knowledgeable about every aspect of any guitar I've purchased, without his assistance I'd be lost,he treats you as if you were family. Bass players check it out!!
Amazing Bass
I'm a Fender guy for sure - I have three other Fedners currently. This is my favorite. Amazing feel, sound, tone, just perfect. And, while I typically don't like active pickups, the active pickups on this are amazing. Love this bass.
Pretty Awesome
I have been working to much to spend as much time as I would like with this new toy, but have played it enough to love it already. It is so easy to get the sound I want quickly for each song while playing with the band I am in. No more switching basses needed. I will always love my G&L M-2000 but I can tell back right stage is now going to feature a Fender American Ultra Precision bass for me. It is to much fun to play and has all the options I craved. Passive to active with the flip of a toggle is still mind boggling for me. Thanks to Sweetwater for the amazing service as always, and to Evan who is always there when needed.
Why buy anywhere else.
This is my 6th guitar I have purchased from Sweetwater in the last 2 years. Sweetwater is a one stop shop with knowledgeable sales staff. I deal with Ramses and he goes above and beyond to help me with my order. This won't be my last guitar purchase .. I'll be back
Simply Awesome
I've been playing bass guitar for just over a year now, so I'm a beginner and I bought my Fender a little over 4 months ago, so you know where I'm coming from. I started out with a Vester which I bought it in Korea in 1994, but all I did was carry it around in a case for the majority of my time while I was in the military. So just before my 62nd birthday I decided to take lessons and now here I am (wishing I started sooner). My Vester was a good starter, but there was always something missing so I decided to buy a good Bass and after quite a bit of research and talking to my instructor (Darrell) who is a great teacher and has been playing since he was 7 (he's 65 now), been to school for his trade and is a professional musician; just a cool dude with a wealth of knowledge about the music world that I simply had no idea about. (A plug for Sweetwater: these folks are great to work with, they took all the time "I" needed to talk to me and teach me some things, this is where I do business now) When I bought my Fender it was like a quantum leap in every aspect of what I knew about Bass Guitars. From the tone to the feel, it is just an awesome musical instrument. But since I am a novice I believe the biggest complement I can give this Bass is from Darrell who has said on many occasions that my Fender is just a great quality bass guitar. He mentioned that he did some research on his own on this bass and all he could say is what a good purchase I made. Since we're both seasoned dudes, we take time to talk and fuss around with different things swapping out guitars and such, and I always enjoy watching him play my bass, it's an added inspiration for me to see my bass being played to it's full potential - Simply Awesome!
THE ULTIMATE BASS GUITAR
Fender has achieved the goal of creating the best bass guitar to date. Excellent craftsmanship along with premium quality parts are what make this bass guitar truly the ULTIMATE bass guitar known to man as of the current times. I am truly impressed with the new updated electronics along with the brand new series of noiseless pickups! These pickups are definitely studio quality pickups meant for some serious recording sessions! To finish the product off with the years worth of tears and dedication/ trial and error of what resonates the best tone, is simply phenomenal! To be able to design and manufacture a electronic system that incorporates both passive and active circuitry, along with the ability to give the player a system that blends both systems at any given moment and also to be able to blend it at any level desired is simply genius! Never before has the player had the complete ability to chose between modern and classic rock tones simply by using the knobs/switches on his guitar. Thank you fender!
My Favorite Bass.
I purchased a demo version of this bass elsewhere. The build quality and playability is second to none. Love the sound in passive and active. Highly recommend.
