Sonic Excellence

By Stratmandew from Virginia Beach on February 14, 2024 Music Background: I have played bass and guitar since 12. I love connecting with others through music

I was blown away when I first opened the case. It really is a work of art. The construction is so rock solid. The tone and sustain are amazing. The detail and adjustability and second to none. When they named this Ultra it was for good reason, truly is beyond expectations. Playing in a group of musicians this bass takes its place in the mix and stands its ground. Recorded some nice tracks with this already and looking forward to see where we go next.
Great experience buying through sweetwater. My sales engineer Lei Fonsah was spot on when I had questions.
The whole process was flawless and I will highly recommend Fender and Sweetwater to anyone looking to take their music to the next level.

Great bass

By Jake from Utah on December 15, 2023 Music Background: Started playing bass in 2022

Being an amateur bass player and owning a P bass; the Ultra line made my playing experience much more exciting. Tons of options for volume and tone help make the bass playing experience more fun resulting in more practice time.

I purchased the mocha burst color scheme - what a great looking instrument! I would recommend the Ultra series to anyone.

Excellent

This baby sounds amazing. Very versatile, the active switch works nice for an instant boost. Punchy, articulate, I love this bass!

Beast of a bass

By Justin Oswald from Pflugerville, TX on March 3, 2023 Music Background: Novice player

Highly impressed with the ultra. You can expect perfection with it. Its gotta good price tag.. but worth every penny. The American line of fender guitars are the very best. It was well worth the 7 months of waiting.
Sam and the guys at sweet water great keeping me honestly informed about delays and options.

Ultimate P bass

By Michael from Illinois on November 25, 2022 Music Background: Rock cover bands.

Wanted one of these since I first laid eyes on it. I went with the Deluxe Active P instead because it was half the price and it looked like the ultra. I used it for gigging for 6 years with minor issues. I have been using the Ultra for a year now. Is it worth twice the price? Yes, and then some. Quality is better across the board. The pre amp seems to be much stronger, better tone. The most outstanding feature to me is the compound radius neck. The playability and speed of it is incredible. When, if they ever start selling the neck I will put it on my other basses.

Craftsmanship at it's finest

By Edel Diaz from Rosenberg, TX on December 3, 2021

Received my Fender Ultra Precision today, wow is all I can say. I am without words to describe this fine instrument. My Sales Engineer Rep Roq took the the time to answer all my questions before pulling the the trigger, with that said I was able to make an informed decision.

Super P Bass

By Tom O'Connor from Alma, Mi. on March 29, 2021 Music Background: 40 years playing in several bands, still going strong.

Plays great sounds the same, I do wish they made this in a 5 string, but this guitar is a beast. Thanks to Riley at Sweetwater for hooking me up.

My my my...

By Arnold from Los Angeles on March 16, 2020 Music Background: three-decade hobbyist

What's not to love about this thing?

It can sound like a classic p-bass. It has a jazz pickup and a switchable eq. Everything is there. The Sweetwater photos don't do the finish justice. It looks like root beer at the edges and is almost gold at the center. It has a gloss headstock with gold logo, but a modern satin neck. Despite the new color and modern features, it retains a strong vintage vibe. I wasn't sure about the mocha burst until I saw it in person. It's stunning.

It took a long time for me to pull the trigger on this bass. I mostly want a passive p-bass sound and wasn't sure I should bother spending money on an active eq. The American Performer p-bass seemed like the obvious choice, but there's more than just just the eq to distinguish the Ultra. It has noiseless pickups. A premium hard case is included. The best upgrade might be the high-mass bridge. It could be my imagination, but I can feel the resonance and power it transfers to the body.

This was a lot for me to spend on an instrument, but I'm glad I indulged. I found my bass for life.

Almost perfect

By Jim W from Brooklyn on January 10, 2024 Music Background: Player, Teacher, Amateur

I have now owned this bass for about 2 years. When I initially bought it, the A string had a dead fret (14th). I brought it to a licensed fender tech (because it was under warranty). He raised the A string and that fixed the problem but it didn't feel right. I eventually took it to my luthier (30th street guitars in Manhattan) and he told me the frets were unlevel and he fixed it. Now it's perfect and by far the best bass I've ever played.

Apparently this fret level issue is common with Fenders. Fender, get this under control please.

Otherwise, this is the best P-bass ever made. Active and Passive. Precision and Jazz. The next profile is the most comfortable I've ever played even though it's wider than a Jazz neck. If you buy this, you'll be done with needing to buy another Precision bass.

Surprised at Fender

By Sweetwater Customer on April 19, 2024

Given Fender's reputation and what I paid for this bass I had high expectations for quality and workmanship but, this bass was ultimately a letdown. The satin polyurethane finish is applied unevenly to the sides of the rolled fretboard and as a result is actually chipping off in a couple of places. This bass also suffers from the classic Fender g-string dead spot at the 4th fret. It seems to be especially pronounced in this bass, though.

Other than these 2 issues, the bass sounds really great and it is really fun to play. It will also probably be the last Fender instrument that I buy.

Too bad they don’t make this in a 5 String

By Michael Gray from Madison, Indiana on November 5, 2020 Music Background: Musician, Studio Owner, Engineer

The only thing that I don't like about this new Ultra Precision is that I couldn't get it in a 5 string. The PJ configuration combined with the Active/Passive switch truly makes this a tone monster!
I put a Hipshot extender with a Doubleshot arm and can drop to C if I need to!!
I highly recommend the Fender American Ultra Precision Bass.
