Fender American Professional II Precision Bass - Olympic White with Rosewood Fingerboard Reviews

Fender Precision Bass
OMG This bass is fabulous. Pleked and added Flat wound strings the sound is so smooth and pretty can't beat it. I wish I would have bought this sooner. Everyone is commenting on the tone this bass produces …. I recommend this one life doesn't get better.
It's the bass
What can I say about this legend that isn't already known? I've wanted to add a P-Bass to my arsenal for a long time for writing and studio work, and I recently joined a dad/jam cover band on bass on the side and decided it was time to pull the trigger. It's everything I expected it to be. I really like some of the (smaller) upgrades with the American Professional II line in general, but this P-Bass is really impressive. I've gotten more compliments on the sound and the finish than most of my other high end axes. It's honestly just a sweet bass, especially in the Olympic White and tortoise shell. I was able to grab one that had some good weight to it for tone but not a backbreaker. The hardshell case has a slightly funny, chemically smell, but is high quality and exactly what is needed for this beast. Very, very happy with this purchase.

My Search Ended Feb 2022
I'm lucky enough to have played a classic 60's Precision in a hard-driving jazz-rock band decades ago. I had to sell it due to life changes and have been searching for one with THAT SOUND since joining a punk-rock band early 2017. Then, the V-Mod's on the American Pro 1 P bass fell short; I have a great set of ears, and I KNOW that classic tone...absent on the Pro 1. So I made do with what I had. Then the V-Mods changed on the American Pro 2 P...I almost ignored them, thinking that they might be as bad or worse than the Pro 1 V-Mods. I'm glad I stopped, put away my attitude, and gave them a try. WOW! BIG diff!
THESE V-Mod's are exactly what I was searching for. Here's a little test anyone can do to confirm that I know my P bass: Grab ANY Fender split-coil P bass--Mexi versions are getting better, so I suggest one of those. Plug into a GOOD amp--Fender, Ampeg, Markbass, Aguilar, Orange, etc--and listen closely to string volume for each string, paying particular attention to the E (or drop D) string. In my experience--30 cumulative years worth--even if at the ideal string height, you'll likely hear a slight dip in volume on that string. The fact that the E string on the V-Mod split coil pickup was AT LEAST as loud as the other strings, and definitely louder than any other Fender P I tried, was the thing that sold me. Otherwise, that "classic P bass tone" checked off all the other boxes of my search.
Now, in the interest of fairness, I am a little disappointed that the neck pocket isn't more snug, and I had to shim the neck to get the string height down to where I need it. I knocked it down 1/2 star due to these issues, but if I could have given it a 4-3/4 stars. Its TRUE classic P bass sound makes it a 5-star bass; product execution, 4-3/4.
Pro instrument
I like the way this thing sounds. It resonates nicely and feels like it wants to be played. The action from the factory is unplayable. If I bought another one I'd pay to have Sweetwater put some neck shims in there so I can't park my car under strings at the 14th fret. The pots are a little cheap feeling for a pro instrument. The neck feels really nice. The case is nice.
