Fender American Professional II Precision Bass - Black with Maple Fingerboard Reviews

4-string Electric Bass with Alder Body, Maple Neck, Maple Fingerboard, and 1 Split-coil Pickup - Black

Leo Fender nailed the essence of a great instrument when he launched his Precision Bass in 1951. Today, the Fender American Professional II Precision Bass draws on over six decades of innovation, evolution, and inspiration to exceed the requirements of today’s working bassists. The ’63 C-profile neck feels just right, with its smooth, rolled fingerboard edges, “Super-Natural” satin finish, and newly sculpted neck heel that gives you effortless access to the upper register. Fender’s new V-Mod II Precision Bass split-coil pickup serves up classic P Bass punch and growl, with more articulation than ever before. A genuine bone nut and string-through-body or top-load 4-saddle HiMass Vintage bridge deliver solidity and sustain for authoritative tone, while lightweight vintage-style tuners with tapered shafts provide outstanding tuning stability and fast, hassle-free string changes. Rocking premium appointments, flawless playability, optimized electronics, and classic visuals, the Fender American Professional II Precision Bass offers you a new standard of comfort, tone, and performance.

Just Wow!

By Bob from Oklahoma, USA

I have two really nice basses, this P-Bass and a custom Ernie Ball HH4 Music Man Stingray Special. This Precision sounds better. The Stingray is lighter, but the tone on this Precision blows me away every time I play it. I don't know how to describe it, but it just sounds "right". I splurged for the plek service and am so impressed that now I want to get my Stingray pleked too.

Butter Neck

By Bluesman from Wisconsin
Music Background: Beginner chasing the blues

I've tried out so many different bass guitars searching for the perfect sound and feel. I've tried everything from budget to midgrade and I'm satisfied for the most part from what I've acquired, but that classic P bass thump was still missing. Last minute decision to switch things up and go big or go home had me on the waiting list for the American Professional II Precision Bass. It was a rocky road. I should knock a star because the first one I received had one of the worst twisted necks my reputable Luthier has seen in along time. I knew Sweetwater would make it right and it all fell into place.

I had my Luthier inspect the replacement. He disappeared into his office with my new bass. He called me out across the sales floor when he returned and had me thinking, not again! To my surprise he said, "She's one sweet bass! The neck, man, the neck is buh-tah".

The neck and the pickups is what makes this bass. It's hard to put down. Your hands feel like they found the perfect match. Your ears connect with that blues you've been chasing for so many years and suddenly you realize it just may be the one bass you needed all this time.

I understand the manufacturing process. I get it, everything can't be made perfect, but we hold the American made instruments to a higher standard because most us already own bass guitars made in Mexico, Japan, etc that easily give the American made ones a run for our hard earned dollars. The fit, finish, and feel of this bass supercedes anything I've ever played so I won't let my unfortunate experience compromise the ratings.

Thanks to all at Sweetwater who helped make this happen!

New P Bass

By Scott from Nebraska
Music Background: Played for over 20 years, just picking it back up.

It's my first Fender P Bass and plays great just as I would expect, a very solid built bass that has wonderful tone. A bass to keep forever.

But for a loose tone pot, this would be a 5-star bass

By Bill from Middle Tennessee
Music Background: One-time professional, now a serious amateur

After decades of playing a wide variety of basses (Fender Jazz, Lakland, Music Man, Gibson, others), this is my first P-bass. The tone and playability of this bass are excellent. The neck is very nice. Smooth, fast texture on the back of the neck.
After I performed a setup to get the intonation right, I found the bass as good or better than any bass I have ever played. Not quite as fast as a Jazz. But the Professional II pickup provides perfect tone for a surprisingly broad spectrum of music. It is not just for Motown! It's my new favorite bass. So, why not five stars? The bass arrived from Sweetwater with the tone pot slightly loose. When I turn the knob to full tone, at the stop, the control keeps moving a fraction of an inch, then springs back -- as if the wiring is pulling it back into place. The control works fine, but I guess I will have to remove the pickguard and try to tighten it up. I would not hesitate to recommend this bass for a wide variety of musical genres.
