Yamaha P45

By WH G. from GA
Music Background: Keyboardist in a southern gospel band.

This is a beginner piano. The sound from the piano speakers is muffled sounding, its not vibrant at all.
I have a Clavinova and there is no comparison between those two keyboards. The transpose is limited to +\- one note, using the function button can be confusing.
Get an external speaker with some type of equalizer or use a mixing board, otherwise it's not a good sound.
The weighted key action is good, the bass notes are strong & the volume is good for the build in speakers.
Spend the extra money and get a better keyboard.

Falls far short of the Yamaha p-143 keyboard

By Sweetwater Customer

I have played piano my entire life, and my father has for over 40 years! We have surrounded ourselves with keyboards and pianos and I needed a budget keyboard for the apartment I was moving into. I played many different Yamaha keyboards (which are generally the best bang and most reliability for your buck), and I want to steer people away from this keyboard and towards the slightly more expensive p-143 yamaha keyboard. While the action and playability of this keyboard is great, the sound is no match for the p-143 which samples an actual Yamaha grand piano sound, and while that idea sounds gimmicky, the difference in quality between this keyboard's sound and the p-143 is unmatched. This keyabord sounds shallow and overly compressed. We both swear by spending the extra buck and if you don't believe us, please go and play the two (in person!) yourself and you will hear the difference!

A Great Option

By Bill T. from Texas
Music Background: Professional Musician/Studio Owner/Electrical Engineer

I'm basically a guitar/pedal steel guitarist, but I have a small studio where I do overdubs and simple songwriter demos. While not an accomplished keyboard player (I can piddle), I needed a way to record simple piano tracks (via midi) into my DAW from time to time. I have an old Kurzweil K2VX that works for that, but I wanted a piano with an weighted 88-key keyboard, and decent sounds, and I intend to get a little more serious about my piano chops.

The P45 hit the mark for me, VERY cost-effective, and simple to use. You won't spend hours reading the manual to figure out how this one works. The headphone output can double as a stereo line out, works fine into the line level inputs on my audio interface, and the sounds are nice, including the 'other' voices like electric piano, strings and organ. All midi transfer is via the USB port on the back, and Studio One recognized and supported it with no problems. The piano is light weight (relatively), easy to move around, but build quality is solid.

I read some somewhat negative reviews about the speakers, but I don't think they're horrible, and I generally end up monitoring through my DAW with headphones and the P-45 plugged into the audio interface. This lets you EQ the sound a bit if you want, but overall the sound is not a problem for me. If not great, it's good.

I don't claim to be a digital piano expert, but in my opinion the P-45 is certainly a good choice for musicians like myself, who have a hard time justifying a really expensive piano, but don't want to sacrifice too much sound or functionality to stay in budget.

After over 40 Years I am Playing Again

By Sweetwater Customer from OR
Music Background: Newby

I love my new Yamaha P 45. It is a beautiful piano that really sounds like a piano. As a matter of fact, I have a friend who has only had baby grand pianos and she's played it for the last couple of days and has commented on how much it sounds like a grand piano. Coming from somebody like that that's high praise. It comes with other sounds such as two harpsichord settings, organ settings, and others I've yet to explore. And on top of the fact it's a fine instrument. The price is reasonable and was something I could afford. Thanks Sweetwater!

Fantastic keyboard

By Adam from MEMPHIS, TN

I'm in my 50s and I started taking piano lessons a few months ago on an old keyboard that was gifted to me. I'd finally progressed to where I knew it was time to upgrade, and after a bunch of research decided on the Yamaha P-45. The sound is incredible! The weighted keys feel great, and the sound can't be beat. Love the metronome functions and the other voices (especially Electric Piano #1 when I want to get down with some Booker T. & the MGs).

More and Better Than Expected

By Jon F. from Pennsylvania
Music Background: 60 years in bands, praise band leader for 43 years

Just received my new P-45. Felt key action in local store vs less expensive keyboards and knew I had to go at least to this model. Happy with P-45 at first, then read the book. P-45 does much more than advertised in brief website paragraph. Not simple button choices, but so much available/adjustable through key combinations. Only 10-11 voices, but combos give more 'colors'. Tuneable, key shift, key feel, etc. etc. etc. Very satisfied with this instrument. My only complaint is difficulty in finding headphone jack...hidden way under in the back. Need a solid keyboard with good sound and good feel? ...check-out the P-45.

Yamaha P-45 Digital Keyboard

By Sweetwater Customer from Nevada

I LOVE YAMAHA! I also love Sweetwater for carrying this awesome keyboard. The upgrade is amazing!

Decades ago, I bought this keyboard, and it was just a keyboard. I paid a whole lot more than this upgraded model. I taught myself how to play on this Radio Shack special.

I have tried quite a few other keyboards from Nord, Korg, and I also have a Yamaha Digital Grand, that is very complicated.

So I asked my Sales Engineer, Jeremiah Smith, if he could find one of these for me. He ordered one and sent me a great stand with it. It beats the heck out of all other keyboards I've owned and to me, a guitar player, this P-45 is absolute perfection.

I own a few Yamaha guitars, and they are mostly vintage, but when I open the case, they are always in tune! No motorcycles, but if I bought one, it would be a YAMAHA!

Thanks, Jeremiah and thank you Yamaha, for quality and ease of playing your instruments.

Yamaha knows how to make great digital pianos!

By John M. from Atlanta
Music Background: 35 years with Yamaha Pro Music.

Yamaha makes great digital pianos because they make great acoustic pianos! The P45 is no exception especially for its price point. It's perfect for a a student whose teacher requires 88 weighted keys. There are other sounds included besides the grand piano that allow you to experiment into other music genres. If you need to move it, it's very light weight. It can set on an X stand but I prefer the optional Yamaha stand with the 3 pedal attachment. Sweetwater carries the stand and the pedals as well.

Great key feel, don't like stock sounds, heavy

By Keith G. from Nashville, TN

This piano has a great feel. Nice heavy weighted keys, very similar to a concert piano. It looks sleek and simple. It also connects via USB MIDI so you can play a virtual instrument. Lots of features for the price.

One complaint is the stock piano sound is a bit weak. The grand piano 1 setting is very dark and can't get that "full velocity hammer" sound. The grand piano 2 setting is a bit brighter, but also grainier. If you're looking for a higher-quality piano sound, use this in conjunction with a MIDI virtual piano.

Another complaint is the weight. You would not want to tour with this one. 25 pounds makes this a hefty lift.

Other than that, this is great for intermediate and advanced piano players to enjoy at home.

For beginners only!!

By Jacob from Owensboro Kentucky
Music Background: Intermittent player. Praise and worship!!

I got this last year and it's not a bad piano just not good speakers are horrible and the key are almost too light for my taste!! I have it 1 star I'm intermittent player so I have to have a more professional piano. I like layering 2 piano tones together to get a fuller brighter sound on this you can't layer the 2 piano tones they would like a hollow electric piano tone! Horrible!!!! Not worth the price the 2nd brighter piano was so screechy on the higher Register of the piano. Like I said good for beginners. If your more advanced get the new Yamaha DGX-670 or Go with Roland or Korg they make better pianos than Yamaha! So horrible!!

A nice sounding e piano

By Edward J. from Palm Coast, FL

My first electric piano to practice on. I have some MIDI controllers but needed an electric piano to get serious about learning to read music better, and play piano.
This fits the bill but I would not recommend it without the stand that is made for it. Sold separately.
I like the piano sounds, but the other sounds are not great. It's really a no frills unit, just a couple jacks for USB, headphones and sustain pedal. But the keybed feels nice to me and I really didn't need many extras.

Good for the price point

By Sweetwater Customer from NC
Music Background: Educator

I use this keyboard for my teaching studio. It is great because it is small and has some touch sensitivity. However, it you are looking for something close to a regular piano consider a Clavinova. Pedal that comes with the keyboard is clunky and basic. For advanced players get a better pedal.

Sounds Great

By bam from Manitou Springs, CO
Music Background: Producer, Mixer, Video Editor

This piano is great. The weighted keys feel great and the sound makes improvising so easy. It's a little on the heavy side but it's slim enough to take anywhere you want. The speakers don't sound half bad, curious to how it sounds running through and amp.

Overall, great purchase. Quality keyboard for a good price.

Great Piano! BUT

By William W. from GREENSBORO, NC

We are VERY pleased with the quick shipping and the quality of the piano. The piano sounds great, and it is just what our daughter was looking for. We are very thankful Sweetwater knows their stuff when it comes to packing instruments, because of the sorry handling by Fedex drivers. Our driver just came in the driveway, and flipped the box off of the truck at the end of the sidewalk. Did not even attempt to deliver at the house. Had it not been for the top notch packing, the piano would have been ruined, and had to have been returned. I wish Sweetwater would reconsider who they use for shipping. We have never had this kind of issues with UPS or DHL.

New Yamaha P-45 88 key digital piano is excellent!

By Sweetwater Customer

I had a Yamaha Clavinova for years in the past and was very happy with it. We only sold it a few years ago because we had bought a Yamaha C2 baby grand.
This year, I am playing music (classical) much more often and needed to get a digital piano so as to not disturb the family during Zoom meetings or later at noght (by using headphones of course). I did research and it sounded from many reviews that the Yamaha P-45 had an excellent weighted action, which was the most important thing for me. I don't ever expect any digital piano to sound like a really good acoustic piano. Even the Clavinova did not sound like the Yamaha baby grand, but it felt great to play it. This new P-45 feels the way I hoped it would feel, with very close the same great weighted action as the Clavinova (at one-fifth the cost).

So I am happy. I have the best of both worlds with a great-feeling 88-key digital piano and the wonderful Yamaha C2.

Outstanding value, highly recommended!

By JonathanF from Parker, CO
Music Background: Hobbyist Guitarist since 1977

This keyboard sounds beautiful, the keys have a great feel, and the controls are intuitive and easy to operate. I bought it for my grandkids 6 months ago so they could learn to play. They are 5, 7, and 9 years old and all of them know how to get it powered on, choose the settings, and start playing. The kids are so excited about the new keyboard that they've learned to read music and the older two can play some very complex songs now by sight.

The P-45 does an outstanding job recreating its instrument sounds. I was shocked the first time I heard the grand piano's deep, rich voice. Yamaha recorded one of their concert grand pianos and the P-45 reproduces it beautifully.

I owe a big thanks to my Sales Engineer, Christian Baer, who helped me choose an instrument that fit exactly what I was looking for- right price, easy to use, and great sound! I highly recommend Sweetwater for their customer service and Christian for his attentiveness and knowledge. He even called me a few days after I received it to make sure everything arrived and was working properly.

excellent for the money

By Kelly L. from Houghton Lake, MI
Music Background: perpetual beginner at every instrument.

bought this as it was not only on sale but in stock over the es110 which had neither benefit. The weak point of this digital piano hasn't been an issue with me yet and that is that there is only a small polyphony. I've been playing my toy piano and my chord organ for two years prior to purchase. This piano has been a wonderful addition to my instrument collection. The keys have excellent weight and they spring back up fast enough for my playing. I would be surprised if anyone had a serious issue with the action and the weight. only thing I would think that could improve this instrument would be textured keys or more polyphony.

Same keybed as the p-125 with less unneccesary features (for my usage).

By Sweetwater Customer

I love the clean design and excellent keybed.

I really wanted the Korg D-1, but as they were out of stock everywhere, I started researching in stock alternatives. My main criteria was a quality keybed under $800.-.

I don't need, nor want a lot of features that I'll never use. My only other criteria was to be able to midi out to my computer. Most missing features, plus much more can be utilized in this way.

The anemic speakers are perfectly adequate for my main use for the device and that is practicing repetoire. I don't plan on performing, but the USB MIDI out to a computer or iPad/iPhone (with USB hub & Audio Interface) makes this a mute point for me as well.

Overall, I am highly satisfied with this purchase.

Sounds and Feels Perfect

By seagreengoddess from Colorado Springs, CO
Music Background: resurrecting my musical theatre soul.

I am in LOVE with this. I've always wanted a piano, and especially in pandemic times, because I can't go into various practice rooms on campus. I use it daily for vocal practice and learning the melodies of songs but I'm also trying to play as well. It feels close to a beautiful actual piano, and it is big and lovely. I feel it looks pretty impressive in my flat. I love that I can turn the volume down low so as to hopefully not disturb my neighbors too much.

Great as a MIDI Controller!

By Christopher from Oklahoma
Music Background: Keys / Piano Player - Church and Cover Bands

I gave this product 5 stars based on what I use it for. I use this as a MIDI controller, not for the internal sounds. They are nothing to write home about for sure. The reason I love this keyboard as a MIDI controller is because it is a pretty small footprint and is pretty light for a weighted hammer-action 88-key keyboard. I play primarily at church and in cover bands. I really like the weighted action on this keyboard. It's perfect for when you need to play expressively with different velocities. Coming from the standpoint of using in-ear headphones for just about everything, I like the fact this has some basic internal sounds. It allows the vocalists to gather around the keyboard without ears in and work over vocal lines without the need for in-ears.

Yamaha P-45 - A Great Digital Piano

By Chuck H. from Texas
Music Background: Worship Musician from age 12 (bass, guitar, piano)

I practice on the P-45 at home and play a grand piano on site. The P-45's weighted keys have a great feel, and the built-in speaker sounds good. Plus, I have the freedom of moving the piano around the house by myself or carrying it with me should I choose to take it somewhere. Try that with a conventional piano!

An Instrument Offering a Whole Lot More Than One Might Expect From a Typical

By Blake W. from Louisville, KY
Music Background: Aspiring Musician with a Current Home Studio Set-Up

One of the most significant accomplishments that Yamaha has achieved with the P-45 digital piano/keyboard is how surprisingly versatile and functional it is for its price range. If you are familiar with Yamaha instruments, or any number of the musical products that they sell, then you're probably already well acquainted with the usually outstanding quality-price-ratio of their instruments.

Yamaha has had a long and consistent reputation for producing above-average and quality instruments for entry-level prices. Because the truth is, in this price range... you really cannot find a more robust digital piano.

Incredible digital pianos are expensive pieces of equipment, and generally speaking, the more you lower the price point on a digital piano, the more you sacrifice things like build quality and features in service of a "budget instrument." And while no, the P-45 is undoubtedly not in the class of more expensive digital pianos like the Nord Piano 4 or the Roland RD-2000, it's also not aiming to be seen or purchased for the same reasons as someone would buy a Nord Piano 4.

In its class of digital pianos (what most would call an "entry-level" digital piano), the P-45 succeeds in nearly every way. Perhaps even more important to note, is the fact that the P-45 isn't just one of the best "entry-level" digital pianos on the market, it is also one that could easily be mistaken as a much more expensive piano.

Some of the features that come with this model, as well as the excellent build quality, would probably set you back... for a similarly built Korg or Roland entry-level model. I think the only other model in this price range that could challenge the P-45 for being in the same arena of quality to value is the Casio Privia PX-160. However, I would argue that for the same price, the P-45 offers the same amount of build quality with a few more features.

The only P-45's only real flaw (for a piano in this price range that is) is the sometimes less than satisfactory onboard speakers, which sometimes leave a little to be desired, especially at lower frequencies and when the volume is down. Other times though, they actually sound pretty decent to my ears. But the speakers alone on the P-45 certainly won't be winning any awards. A simple answer to this issue would be to connect your favorite set of monitors through the rear inputs... I don't think there's really anything else in this price range that rivals this instrument.

The thing that stood out the most to me when I first tested the instrument was how incredibly solid and satisfying the keys felt to play. After all, Yamaha itself seems to be pushing the P-45 for its graded hammer standard keybed, which they claim is fully-weighted. The P-45's fully-weighted keys are the reason I decided on buying the P-45 over other digital pianos in this price range.

After consulting with my amazing Sweetwater sales engineer (shoutout to Andrew Davis), and doing some research myself, I found that the Yamaha P-45 was the one digital piano regularly and consistently recommended for my needs. I was in the market for a somewhat affordable digital piano with fully-weighted keys and MIDI connection, and eventually, the P-45 was the one I decided was best for me. All I can say is I am happy I did, and I can't imagine I would have gotten any more of a bang for my buck.

If you are in the market for an affordable digital piano that replicates the feel of a "real piano," and also one that offers some pretty nice features for an affordable piano, then this is the option, in my opinion. A digital piano like this may not be ideal for specific scenarios, but it is a perfect model for the aspiring pianist or learning musician.

Any experienced or professional pianist advising a new player on purchasing their first piano will almost always assert two key features to look for: a piano with 88-keys and a fully-weighted keybed. A traditional standard grand piano has 88-keys, and to learn to play the instrument properly, you need 88-keys. It's important to find a piano with fully-weighted keys, or at the very least, semi-weighted keys. Buying a piano/keyboard with weighted keys is an essential factor because, again, a traditional grand piano has keys that are fully-weighted and learning on a keyboard that at least replicates that feature will make you a better player in the long-run.

Not only that, but fully-weighted keys can change the entire feel of playing the piano. The weight is essential because touch is such an important, and usually understated factor, to playing the piano well. So basically, a keyboard with fully-weighted keys will help you, and the Yamaha P-45 offers both of these critical features and is what makes classifies it as a digital piano instead of merely a keyboard.

Not only that, but the P-45 has additional features that are great for new players. The P-45 includes ten different included instrument sounds. While some of them are not as detailed or rich as the more luxurious sounds and settings you will encounter on high-end digital pianos, they are a starting point and allow for a lot of customization.

In my case, one of the best features of the P-45 is its MIDI connection that uses a simple USB connection, so no MIDI cables are required. This is useful if you want to use the P-45 as a MIDI controller in a DAW like I often do, and you simply cannot beat the feel of its fully-weighted keys over the clacking, mediocre keys that plague so many cheaper MIDI controllers. I have used the P-45 in Ableton Live and found it to be surprisingly streamlined and a joy to use.

So basically, all-in-all, the Yamaha P-45 is a fantastic value for its price and can also function as a 'jack-of-all-trades' to some degree. If you are someone who is looking for your first piano, someone who is learning piano, or someone who is looking to buy a piano for your kids or anyone else learning piano, I highly, highly recommend this instrument. As far as "entry-level" digital pianos go, this is a first-class piece of equipment.

Perfect Student Piano!

By Josh V. from Braselton, GA
Music Background: Semi-professional drummer (I don't make my living at it, but have been paid for live and studio work here and there).

We needed a piano for our children to begin learning on. Anyone who's ever taken lessons knows the real magic happens in what/how you practice between the lessons. We didn't have the money or space for even an upright piano. However, with my wife having taken 8 years of piano as a child and myself taken 4 years before switching to drums and percussion, we understood the need for a quality instrument that would look and feel as close to a piano as possible for our budget. This board definitely fits the bill!

Another concern I had was the sound of the integral speakers and whether we'd need to get a separate amp to get quality sound. Fear not, these on-board speakers sound great!

Chris Neyman @ Sweetwater also did a great job guiding us to this board and making the transaction 100% smooth and positive!

What a disappointment

By Roger C. from Middleburg, VA
Music Background: Extensive music but beginner piano

I purchased this model (P-45) based on the high reviews it got for acclaimed realistic piano sound and real keyboard hammer feel. I am afraid the only thing I can agree with is the hammer, piano like feel of the keys is excellent. The rest I am afraid is not worth the money. I sent the first unit back because I thought it was defective. The entire top octave (8 keys) were "dead". No sound from them except a dead "plink" and hammer like thud. Sweetwater help were great and arranged a replacement which was just as bad as the first. The top octave is still "dead" and the next lower octave is virtually unplayable with the sound of the "hammer thud" louder than the tinny plink of the note. Again Sweetwater have been helpful to determine if Yamaha are aware that this is a problem and if they can duplicate what I am experiencing with a store unit. As of this writing I have not heard back. Sweetwater have also offered to replace this unit again but I would like to hear what Yamaha have to say.

I am a beginner player and purchased this keyboard to practice in the basement away from annoying the rest of the family. I have a regular piano to fall back on when I want to actually hear what the top range sounds like, or play the higher note scales. Which brings me to my last complaint of the supposedly "grand piano" sound. The lower register below middle C does provide a rich piano like sound. But as you go higher up the register a harpsicord effect takes over and any "grand piano" sound goes out the window.

I would be interested to hear from other users of this model if they are experiencing the same problems or am I just getting defective units.

It also allows me to play WITH my clients as I can put it on a low stand close to the floor or on a regular size stand.

The P-45 has a great piano bank with incredibly easy function buttons for the different instruments. The weighted keys fit the bill and the sound is good.

You cannot beat this keyboard for its features, sounds and price!

I've tried learning piano in the past and always got discouraged and stopped. I've had this a week, and I'm already playing songs because I'm inspired to play. I play other instruments and have gotten used to using nice gear, and I feel like this is a solid piece.

Thank you Nich for steering me in the right direction on this. We were in constant communication determining what I wanted/needed in an instrument, and something like this wasn't on my radar until we spoke. Great customer service and friendship!

I am extremely happy with the P-45. I had a little 60-note (25 yrs. old) Casio, which was just not enough keyboard for me. I am a 91-yr. old retired piano teacher, have played all my life as a semi-professional. I am delighted with the sound, the touch, and the appearance. Great product for the price! Thank you so much.

The best board for practice!!

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: Worship Leader/ Piano teacher

This board is so perfect for practice. And it's super light!! Sounds are great! It's been a workhorse for me and practicing. If I need to take it anywhere it's super light. If you need this for practice or church. Yamaha is amazing at making quality products for a low price as far as the P line goes.

Just Right

By Linda from South Carolina
Music Background: Beginner

I selected the Yamaha P45 keyboard because of the favorable reviews online. I was not disappointed! I didn't want an overly complicated keyboard, as I'm just learning and wanted to keep it simple. But even better is the customer service at Sweetwater. Shortly after I ordered online, I received a phone call from Chris, a personal representative assigned to me, who wanted to introduce himself and find out a little about me. I've never experienced that when I ordered anything online before. Very happy with the whole experience.

Yamaha P-45 Digital Piano

By lori g. from NH

This was a great deal. I have taken a few weeks to reply so I could get feedback from my son. He is 15 and has been playing for 9 years. He loves his new keyboard. Great sound for a great price. I loved the free shipping as well. I must also comment on the awesome customer service at Sweetwater. I received a confirmation email and a call "just to check if I had questions" before the product even shipped. Then it arrived in very secure packaging. Follow up emails t to be sure we were satisfied. I will recommend Sweetwater to everyone! Thank you!!

It doesn´t have MIDI port!!! Is a very good idea the USB port but how I can connect with others keyboards? Do I always have a computer to drive the other MIDI gear?

yamaha p-35/p-45

By Ken from Southern Indiana

Bought this piano for my theater (black-box 100 seat). Although I don't play, I've had 4 or 5 piano players use it in productions and they all have loved the feel and sound that this digital piano produces. Not a single complaint. My piano is a p-35 and it is my understanding that the p-45 is identical except for the usb plug on the p-45. I am considering starting lessons and wouldn't hesitate to buy another one. Great little unit that does exactly what it is supposed to do!

Best Digital Piano in it's class!

By Julian L. from Chicago, Illinois

I've had this digital piano for over a week now and I absolutely love it. This is my second Yamaha keyboard I still have my first 61 key for over 10 years that works like new. Yamaha makes quality keyboards that are state of the art and built to last. They provide excellent customer service if you need them and provide free learning tools on their website to registered users.

Solid piano voicing and excellent keys

By Matthew B. from New Mexico

I am completely satisfied with this piano. My piano teacher (my girlfriend) loves playing this instrument, and she is a hella good musician. Both of the piano voices contained on this piano are great, at least to my unsophisticated ear. I am kinda sorta a guitar guy, so when I want to make some noise, I plug this thing in to one of my amps and let it rip. Good times.

Great piano for DAW with NI Ultimate

By John

Picked up this piano for a session and it was amazing. The polyphony limit doesn't apply to midi and I was able to record some amazing pianos with Native Instruments Komplete Ultimate 10. Very good hammer action and a nice clean look. The built in sounds are good for beginners and for my studio this is a great piano controller

Yamaha P-45: Excellent entry level keyboard

By Blaine from Maine

I wanted to have a keyboard at home so I didn't have to commute all the way to my university just to practice piano and recently I did just that and all the practice rooms were taken, so it was then I decided I wanted my own keyboard at home.

I got to try the Yamaha P-115 which is just the slightly older brother of this keyboard and since I knew it had the same hammer action style keys that felt really awesome, I decided to get this one and save some money.

This piano was very easy to set up. You just plug it in and it's ready to go. Keys feel like the real deal and the keyboard sounds pretty great through the speakers. I would say there's a negligible difference between this and a real acoustic piano.

Great work, Yamaha, and Sweetwater did a great job getting in contact with me.

Love it

By Sean

This is my first digital piano. I have played many very expensive pianos and the feel of this feels like a real piano. The keys have the right weight to them and change depending on key. The speakers sound better than I thought they would. I was going to use it with an amp but the speakers are so nice that I just use it that way.
