The best and worth it
I tried the cheapest IEM first and was not happy so I sent it back and I got the Shure system. Just bought a second receiver..
Really Good
I've used mine a number of times now and it has completely changed my perspective on playing.
Performance is better because I can hear my voice and I am more accurate in hitting my notes.
Stage monitors are gone and I am considering buying an Ampeg preamp (I play bass) and leaving my cab at home!
An uncluttered stage!
It has made a difference to my other singers. They feel like they no longer have to strain their voices to hear themselves.
This model allows you to set your own balance so that you can blend the mix you want to hear between the left and right channels. It is solidly built and with Sweetwater's 2 year warranty, I have another year over the standard warranty.
I won't go back to wedges again.
The cons are that it will eat batteries. Shure rechargeables are $99. There are cheaper alternatives.
A Game Changer
My band decided to buy the PSM300 transmitter and I bought the P3RA from Sweetwater for me along with a set of Shure SE 315 earbuds because I play bass and wanted to emphasize the low-end.
At first, I was worried because I could not get a good seal with standard sleeves that Shure provided.
Luckily, Sweetwater threw in some additional ear sleeves and I tried the triple flanged sleeve and what a difference!
The seal in your ear canal is VERY important. A bad seal produces distortion and low volume. A good seal gave me clear, undistorted bass and allowed me to hear everything I wanted to hear at a volume level that did not cause me any discomfort.
The MixMode in the P3-RA is a really nice feature. It allows me to set the blend between channels to my liking so if I have voices in one and instruments in the other, I can emphasize one or the other.
The Level Limiter prevents any abnormal bursts of sound from damaging my ears. Good features to have.
These are why you are seeing bands dumping their stage monitors. Those feedback producers that you can't hear anyways are now becoming obsolete. Some musicians are dumping their stage amps as well. There's a revolution in on-stage sound as people adopt IEMs and experiment.
Sweetwater helped get me the right equipment and I did a lot of research on TalkBass Forum and conversed with other bassists who had them.
Great bodyback for inears, but....
Great bodypack for inear systems, we have several for our singers to use on stage. The only issue we have with them is use with the SB900A batteries. So if you use AA batteries then you wont have this issue, but we bought the SB900A with charger. Occasionally we have a singer who thinks he/she can put the battery in on their own and they put it in upside down, this then flattens out the contacts and will cause the bodypack to blink red and say reposition battery. To fix this I have to use a small flathead screw driver to pry up the contact back into its correct position. I highly recommend buying these to use for your sound needs, strong shell of a body, just make sure if you're using SB900A batteries to put them in with white lable up, notch to the right.
Does not work on Shure SBC220-US 2-Bay Networked Charging Station
We have four of these items. Recently we got the SBC220 charging stations and rechargeable batteries to make things easier for us. These do not work in that charger. We even recently sent one back to Shure to have them look at it and they basically did nothing and returned it to us. The only way to make use of the charging station with these packs is to remove the batteries and charge them outside of the pack. The packs were clearly designed for charging as evidenced by the four or five copper connections on the back. But they just don't work. Very disappointing.
