AMAZING!!!
In-ear monitors are a MEGA game changer, and Shure brand will to disappoint.
Shure P3R Wireless
Excellent piece of equipment. Easy to set up, fits well on belt or pocket. Lightweight, hardly knew it was there. I've been using it at practice for the past couple of days and have not had to change out the batteries. Very economical without sacrificing quality. Perfect way to start wireless monitoring!
(Sound Quality) + (L/R Mix) - (Plastic) - (Battery Life) = 4.5
I chose the P3R over the P3RA because it has a dial on the side that allows the musician to choose their balance of AUX mixes. For each P3T Transmitter, I can put the post-fader mix on one channel and the individual instrument/mic (usually pre-fader) on the other channel and the musician can blend the mix to their personal liking. It cuts down on fiddling with aux levels at the board during sound check and speeds up the rehearsal.
In a perfect world, this receiver would have the metal body and high-power lithium battery (option) of the P9RA or P10R -- *WITH* the user-selectable 2-channel mix. Nirvana.
In reality, I use AmazonBasics AA High-Capacity Rechargeable Batteries and I do my best to gently open the plastic battery door when I replace them (the calloused fingers of guitar players may find the battery door a challenge). Pre-performance, musicians get a freshly charged P3R, so as to minimize the possibility that they will fiddle with (and possibly break) the plastic battery door.
(Battery Life will vary based on selected volume, but I'm seeing 2 - 2.5 hours on Alkaline and 2.5 - 3.5 on 2400 mAh NiMH cells as well -- NiMH voltage remains more consistent across the life of the discharge (1.2 Volts NiMH vs 1.5 descending to 1.0 or less for Alkaline), so for purposes of reducing long term stress on the electronic components, I prefer NiMH over Alkaline, but for about the first 20-30 minutes, the Alkaline-powered P3R may perform better than the NiMH-powered one.
The signal to noise ratio on this unit is very manageable within 50 feet with the stock P3T antenna, and though the whip antenna on the P3R is a little long... that's a good thing. It's length is tuned right and provides good reception.
Overall, and for the price... this receiver is a great buy.
