Trick Drums Pro 1-V Black Widow Bigfoot Longboard Double Bass Drum Pedal Reviews

Double Bass Drum Pedal, Limited Edition, with Split-cam Design, 13" Footboard, Internal Compression-spring Mechanism, and On-the-fly Tension Adjustment Knob - Black and Red

This limited-edition Trick Drums Pro 1-V double-kick Black Widow pedal includes the same precision-machined parts and aerospace-grade bearings Sweetwater drummers love about the original, delivering tried-and-true performance with a rare red and black aesthetic. It sports an internal compression-spring mechanism that's smoother, faster, and quieter than expansion-spring pedals, as well as a split-cam that allows independent adjustment of beater and pedal angles. The Black Widow's tension adjustment knob even lets you adjust pedal tension while you're playing! Furthermore, the Slide-Trac hoop clamp adjustment provides variable distance for the pedal from the kick drum for dialing in your ideal point of impact, and its hoop clamp lever saves you precious setup time with easy tightening, no drum key or wingnut required. You're still not finished customizing your perfect pedal feel, however, as the Black Widow's multiple height adjustment cluster lets you adjust the stroke speed of the pedal, and its universal beater mount fits the majority of beaters currently available. Simply put, the Black Widow's incredibly smooth action, seemingly infinite adjustability, and dead-silent operation have made it one of the most sought-after pedals in our inventory.

Worth the wait!

By Bryan P. from Lakeville, MN
Music Background: 34 years drumming, piano, guitar, and annoying my close relationships

I had to wait a while for these to show up, but holy crap was it worth it. I had been playing Pearl Demon Drives for the last decade or so, and while there was a slight learning adjustment with these, once I got settled in, and got used to the compression spring, my speed and consistency of stokes has improved greatly. These are just a joy to look at and play.

Game Changer! 5+++++ stars

By Tim from Cameron Park, CA

By far the best setup I have played on in 55 years... Always played double bass went through pretty much all the pedals out there. Was playing DW 9000 with Trick linkage (DW has the worst linkage) and pretty happy but was just looking for something a little smoother and better quality... Mike at Trick hit it outta the park (all his stuff is top notch) pretty much thought of everything. Besides just looking ba ba bad, Black Widow, they really deliver. Super smooth, nothing quite like it, quiet not a click / clack / spring sound, just a solid piece of well engineered equipment. I personally did not like the light feel of the beaters that came with it and opted for the Trick dead blow... got to say the perfect combo for me, I am a Bonham / Moon style player and just a perfect set up... My search is over. And of course, Connor Smith at Sweetwater made it all work out flawlessly as usual....
Cheers Tim

Define pro pedals

By Nicholas s. from Florida
Music Background: Animalfarm feast of the antipathy

I am a particular drummer been playing 13 years when it comes to choosing gear I have used the same kit for several years only change heads snares and cymbals I stuck with 9000s for a large portion of time they do have a very comfortable smooth drive which for learning proper and intricate patterns is a plus but not for speed when you need it help from your drive than becomes strain and muscle fatigue (I'm a metal drummer so you can understand bpm I'm speaking of) I got these cause I was at a point for an upgrade these beastly creations which I love and are my advantage on speed never played a smoother more precise pedal after setting up which wasn't as hard as people built these up to be an issue it wasn't for me only thing I could say in sort of a negative light is if you aren't comfortable with using double bass or just starting these probably aren't for you

Best pedals I've found

By Adam B. from Westminster, MA
Music Background: Musician for 20+ years

When I first started playing drums I delved in with the Iron Cobras and I liked them quite a bit. But as I delved deeper into the world of metal everyone said Axis was the way to go and they are definitely quite the step up from my Cobras, in my opinion. Now, I never picked up Axis pedals for myself, but I've them on my friends sets and they were really nice. I was actually in the market to get a set for myself... and that's when I stumbled upon these pedals. I'd never even heard of Trick drums, but in watching the demos and looking at the overall design of these things, I really wanted to try this out.

The price of Trick pedals may be a bit daunting at first, but, after having made this purchase and worked with them for a few weeks, I'd gladly pay the price again. I also figured, if I was going to be spending this much on a pedal, might as well spend a little more and get it in a really cool paint job! So, I took the plunge with the Black Widow set and I have to say, this is the way I've always wanted a bass drum pedal to feel.

One of the major reasons these double pedals cost so much is because you are actually paying for two stand alone pedals. All you need to do is swap the beater over to the other pedal and now you can use a double bass kit! Don't want to play out with your double bass kit, that's fine, just bring the drive shaft with you and use a double pedal. This feature alone is worth the extra money to me and I don't have to deal with any kind of taking it apart.

Another feature, that I quite like, but others may find overkill, is the fact that you can really spend a lot of time calibrating these pedals. There's lot more than just adjusting your tension when it comes to these pedals and for some people it may be a bit too much time to make it worthwhile. However, I really liked a lot of the features and precision with which you could get your beaters to line up perfectly with the head of a bass drum. You can adjust how far your pedal connects on the drum. All this calibration means that it's going to take a decent amount of time to get used to these pedals. Even right out of the box, for me, I liked them more than other pedals I've used and could feel the potential at my feet, but I also realized things weren't perfect. It could take upwards of a month of tweaking to get things to really work perfectly, but once you have everything all lined up there's just no going back for me. Sure, maybe you'll rarely, if ever, change these settings again, but the fact that you were able to set up the pedals in this detailed of a manner makes a world of difference in playing.

I feel like I can play faster and harder on these pedals compared to any other set I've used before. I'm really happy I was able to get a set of these. They even came with a set of velcro to add to the bottom of the pedals. If you've been looking for a pedal as detailed in its manufacture as I have then these are probably worth the money and definitely worth trying out.
