Ernie Ball 2023 Super Slinky Paradigm Electric Guitar Strings - .009-.042 Reviews

.009-.042 Super Slinky Gauge Electric Guitar Strings, Nickel-plated Steel

Ernie Ball Paradigm electric guitar strings are amazingly resistant to rust and breakage — and whether you earn a living with your guitar or not, that's a big deal. These plasma-treated strings deliver classic Slinky tone along with advanced engineering that can withstand aggressive players. And even if you travel with your guitar often, or live in a salty-aired coastal region, Paradigm strings will stay rust-free for a very long time. Kenny Wayne Shepherd couldn't break 'em. John Petrucci couldn't break 'em. Guitarists at Sweetwater haven't been able to break Ernie Ball Paradigm guitar strings either, and we expect you'll eventually get bored trying.

Paradigm by Ernie Ball

By Robert from SC
Music Background: Guitar, vocals, audio

I started using these on my electric with Floyd Rose about 2 or 3 years ago and now it's 2024 of September . I have been using them every since and love them with the feel and the sound ~ I use 9s on my electric with the Floyd and I started putting them on my acoustic which I use 12s on my Breedlove jumbo Atlas. They are just a few dollars more but they won't only last longer they're guaranteed or money back regardless how many bends and whatever you can throw at them and I haven't had any issues or any broken strings since.. worth every dime every paradigm..

Be patient

By Your M. from Chicagoland…boo.
Music Background: Kazoo/slide whistle

These strings drove me mad for 3 weeks. No amount of stretching would settle the strings in place and they would constantly go out of tune. I thought about ditching them. Then one day, out of the blue, they found their happy place and have been great since! My only other gripe is they felt hard and stiff(that's what she said) when new. Maybe I got used to them but, I don't notice anything different now. Time will tell how long they last. I'm not sure if I'll stick with them but, I'm happy I tried them. Whatever. Do what you want.

Paradigm strings

By John E. from Dix hills, NY

I loved the .008's forever from Earnie . On a whim I tried the cobalts .009 . I love them ! So tried the paradigm strings . Dont like them as much because of a very metallic sound . But a great feel to them . I'm sure they'll last a long time ( the cobalts do too ) . I have another set of paradigms I'm gonna try on another guitar .

Great strings

By Sweetwater Customer

Just bought a new epiphone les Paul modern and wanted to get something special. Now I'm no expert but these strings sustain forever and sound really clear. I normally use hybrid slinky 9 to 46 side by side you can really hear the difference. I think I just found my new favorite strings.

Strong strings... perhaps too strong?

By Frank K. from Oregon
Music Background: Guitars and Keys since the late 60's

I really love Ernie Ball strings, and these Paradigms are no exception; the tone and quality are exceptional; and yes, for me they really are hard to break. The one thing however, that I must concur with another reviewer... is that, if you do a lot of bending with your fingers, and especially express your vibrato using your fingers, you will wear out your frets faster than you normally would.
Now if you use your trem-bar for vibrato, then you stand a chance, but I personally use my fingers most of the time; and I'm really not going to change my style of playing for the sake of preserving my frets.
So in the future, I will probably stick with Super Slinky's. Let's face it, when it comes to breaking, most of the time it's the high E and B strings that go out on you. For those untimely instances when I do break a string (live), I keep an empty CD case filled with 9's and another with a few 11's in my gig bag. Once I break, I usually replace the whole set; and with Paradigms that might get a little expensive.
Lastly, just once when I was putting new Paradigms on my Strat, the E String broke as I was tuning it. I hadn't even played a note...

Long lasting, never break

By Eric from Ft worth

Sound and feel like every other string but they last longer and don't break. I have one guitar that consistently pops the first string EXCEPT when I use these

These strings will Ruin your frets

By Skiffy F. from Hamilton, AL
Music Background: Pro Guitar Player for 50+ years Guitar repair for 30+ years

After 3 sets of EB Paradigm Strings.

My stainless steel frets now have grooves

.Usings normal strings I have had 0 fret wear for 7 years!!
Now these strings have put grooves in my stainless frets.

Lucky I am a guitar repairman. I did the relevel and crowning of the frets myself after using these crappy strings.

I emailed Ernie Ball several times and never got a response!!!!!!!!!!!!

They are made from a metal harder than any frets made...

SO Buyer Beware These Strings Will Ruin Your Frets.

Ok, but not for 3 months.

By Dave from Illinois
Music Background: Semi-pro

So, these strings are better than regular strings. They lasted me about a month on a Strat, which is really good as I play pretty hard. But they don't last 3 months and if you don't break them quickly enough, the warranty isn't really good for anything.

Ernie Ball's customer service was good. After breaking a string at a gig, I was able to get the first set in to them and the response time was quick with no questions asked. i just had 2 strings break at a gig yesterday, but my warranty expired 5 days ago. So... I won't be buying these again.

Like the strings, but...

By Guy N. from MO
Music Background: 45 years of guitar and vocal work stage/studio

I decided to try 'em out since Sweetwater has a relatively good price....they are certainly of the usual sonic and feel standard one expects from EB, but I DID break one without really trying....NO burrs on my saddle, just a string break. Don't know that I'll bother with more after I use the other couple sets I got. Rather have the normal sets or the Cobalts - THOSE really feel great but just a little expensive for me.Truly expected better results from the Paradigms.

Paradigm strings

By James A. from WV
Music Background: Professional musician ,50 years, currently retired

I put them on in June 2017. I played 7 gigs from 2-3 hours long just to see. I'm normally hard on strings and change every gig but I pushed it to see. I haven't gigged since but with band practice and playing at home I can't believe how good they still sound and stay in tune.I'm experimenting to see how long before they die. In 3 weeks they'll be 1 year old.. unbelievable.

Living up to the Hype- At Least the First Two Sets!

By Sacalait from South Louisiana
Music Background: Producer/Arranger/Guitarist

I bought two sets of these because I'd heard about them being "break resistant" and having a "90-day warranty". I put one set on a G&L S500 and a set on a Les Paul. I'm thoroughly impressed with the set on the S500! I've done at least four gigs with this set and one of the cats in the band said on the last gig "must be new strings because they sound nice and bright!" I thought the same thing about how they sounded! I believe it's a cool indication that EB was on to something. I've only done one gig on the Les Paul so we'll see how that goes. So far, so cool!

I'd actually give them a 5 (so far) but may come back later for another review after I've tried them longer.

So far, So good.

By Mickey L. from IN
Music Background: 43 Years Performing and Recording

I was a bit Skeptical at first. When I heard these strings COULD last 3 months...I thought OK we'll see...After using the same set of strings for 3 Gigs in a row (Never as a general rule) I have to say, I AM impressed ! They are A Little "Bright" when I first put them on, but that plays out after an hour or so. So far so good.

Great strings

By Rich
Music Background: Mostly Everything

Great sounding strings! I put them on my ibanez with a Floyd Rose and after I cut off the first ball end said "uh oh" did I just void the warrante? Called the rep and he said "no" still covered ! I've see. A few reviews and people said "they went out of tune so I took them off! How about giving them a chance or maybe a wrong installation !
