High quality item does the job

By Alex G. from Chicagoland
Music Background: Amateur Enthusiast

I wanted to put 2 overhead mics on my drum kit and mount the mics to the truss above. I couldn't figure out how to do and I called Josh here and he steered my to Triad orbit. I got the truss clamp, long arm boom, and ball swivel mic mounts and I think the picture speaks for itself. Triad Orbit!

Rugged & Versatile

By Tom P. from Ohio
Music Background: Guitar Teacher

Microphone placement is often a pain. After years of fussing with inadequate stereo mount bars, I bit the bullet and dropped a wad on the Triad Orbit Series O2 Dual-Arm Orbital Boom. (Ordered from Sweetwater.) To be clear, I bought the O2 Boom only. Triad Orbit says this can be retro-fitted to any standard mic stand. Since I already have several mic stands, I took them at their word.

To do a retrofit, you'll need Triad Orbit's iO-RA Retrofit coupler (currently $). It works as advertised. Unfortunately, I'm a mechanical dunce, so I had trouble figuring out how to operate it. Which brings up my first nitpick. The iO-RA Retrofit coupler has brief user instructions printed on the side of the packaging. It's not clear from these instructions how the coupler works. (There are better instructions on the Triad Orbit website. But it's not obvious where to find them.) Puzzling over this stopped me cold. A call to Sweetwater, however, quickly resolved the impasse. The iO-RA Retrofit coupler is simplicity itself. Once I overcame my mechanical nitwittery, attaching it to my K & M mic stand was a snap.

On to the O2 Dual-Arm Orbital Boom. It's heavy. I find this reassuring. If you need a mic boom that can double as a cudgel, then the O2 is for you. It's all metal, with rubberized grips for the boom arm extensions. There are three articulating joints. Two are 360

Awesome Idea

By Jose E. from Texas
Music Background: Musician / Asst. F.A SBKC .

Back in 70s and 80s looking at some music programs on T.V I always watched Peter, Paul and Mary isn't this one mic stand with three mics on it and I say to myself how awesome it'll be having that type of hardware but I am sure these idea at that time were probably either custom for them or available but expensive . I didn't know where to find one until I chanced upon a sweetwater product brochure with Triad Orbit in one small part of a page . I didn't even pay much attention to it for sometime until I a product caught my eye and it was this one .
For someone not really doing a regular or professional gig the price is not a walk in the park but who cares , I bought it . I used a standar mic stand which until now served it's purpose as it's stand to save money . My daughter and I use all triad orbits in a weekly basis ;
1.this product
2.two guitar hangers
3. Medium and heavy duty clamps
3. Arm extensions
4. Misic table
5. T2.

Buy a Latch Lake instead

By Charles S. from Thornton, PA
Music Background: Home studio owner, songwriter, 40 years experience recording music.

This orbit system is not reliable. Nice idea, but poor quality and engineering. Clutches last about 2 months and then start to fail and no longer hold even a 2 lb mic without drooping. I bought this a few years back and then realized they last just long enough for them to be not returnable. The last straw was when I was in the middle of an acoustic guitar take and the mic drooped out of position and ruined the take. I immediately bought two latch lake stands which are world class and hold my 8 lb. AEA R44 without any problem. Yes, the latch lake they are bigger and bulkier, (and more expensive) but in the end you will be far better off. You get what you pay for….

Problem solver

By Rob J. from Montclair, NJ/NYC
Music Background: Gigging

The combination of great engineering and superb customer service (answered tech and placement questions by phone, live, immediately- no wait times!) makes this product worth every penny and then some. My use was to attach Traid's wall plate to the rafters in my basement studio to save floor space. With Triad's extension elevator shaft I can mic artists who are standing or seated and even mic instruments on the floor such as a harmonium or drum set. Easy up and out of the way and always accessible rather than searching through the dreaded music equipment closet!

Push the limits

By Bruce

This equipment is very tough and diverse, and useful for all kinds of purposes and arrangements. At the moment I have a condenser on one arm, and reflection filter on the other. Both arms are directed vertically and the angles are as steep as I could make them because the fulcrum tighteners cannot hold the booms if the angles are shallow. I have to cinch the tighteners by wrapping cloth and use pliers to tighten them down enough to keep them from drifting. The design is just on the edge of not being heavy enough for this job. The whole unit is connected to a Triad-Orbit IO-C Clamp IO Quick-Change Base, facing down from an under-table edge. The arrangement is holding fine but I don't bump it! I love the flexibility and engineering of these units, and don't get me wrong, they are very strong and very well made. But you have to finesse them, they will not hold big condensers unless you have short distances and vertical angles. I guess thats why people use big studio tripods... but here, space won't permit. These units are the only thing that would work in tight quarters, but you got to plan a bit. Thanks for Tyler Berggren helping as usual.

Nice Product

By Alan K.

I so wanted to give this product a 5 but my heart couldn't do it. This item sturdy as a rock. It's perfect for live and studios. You will almost never knock this stand over. The quick release is spot on and the assembly was easy as pie. The product takes up less space which was a huge plus for my studio. The negatives: I purchased this item hoping that you could move the arms in "any" direction. The position I wanted was for the arms to close over one another or to even get really close. I did not rotate I wished it would but never the less, it still is worth the money.
