If you've been searching for a show-ready machine that plays right, sounds great, and doesn't break the bank, the Floyd Rose-equipped Schecter Omen Extreme FR checks all the right boxes. Its Thin "C" maple neck with a 14-inch radius fingerboard and 24 extra-jumbo frets lay the foundation for fast runs and finger tapping. It's joined with a mahogany body and maple veneer whose deep gloss finish and multi-ply crème binding give this axe tons of presence under stage lights. Sonically, the Omen Extreme FR's capable Diamond Plus humbuckers with push-pull coil splits give you six pickup sounds for claiming your space in a mix. This FR model of the Omen Extreme features a Floyd Rose Special double-locking tremolo system that'll have you (and your guitar) squealing with delight. On the hardware side of things, you also get matching knobs and tuners to help you look and sound your best in any performance setting. Beautiful shredding guitar!
I was impressed with the "demo" model Schecter Omen 6 FR as soon as I took it out of the box! From the time I ordered it to delivery Sweetwater did an outstanding job with ensuring my delivery was on time. My Sales Engineer Mike Winebrenner made sure I was informed and that he was available for me if I had any questions or concerns. Their packing was absolutely fantastic. It was double boxed with packing material between the boxes to ensure my guitar arrived in perfect condition. The outside of the box was not damaged at all. The inside box also had extra protection for my guitar. The 55 point inspection was done because it was in tune right out of the box. Overall I am very pleased with my purchase and I will continue to buy my guitars from Sweetwater!
Love it more than I thought I would.
I bought mine knowing it was discounted as blemished guitar. Probably a display model, but it didn't bother me as long as it plays nicely.
It arrived well packaged and actually still in tune. Since they took care in inspecting it before shipping, I really had no set-up to do on it. I inspected it based on the photos of the blemished, and it's really very hard to see any of them. It still has the protective plastic film over the pick-ups.
The thing is beautiful, and looks like something worth way more than it costs. The recessed knobs and the black chrome, the trim and details really aren't done justice in photos.
It's been many years since I've picked up an axe and played anything, but I love the feel of this guitar. I took a chance on it since I'd never even touched a Schecter and pretty much had it in my mind that they were a strictly metal thrashing / shredding guitar. I was looking for something something tonally diverse and wasn't even considering Schecter, but this guitar caught my eye and didn't let go. I'm glad I got it. I can play any genre of music with it. I might experiment with different pickups in the future, but these crunch and clean just fine.
Many thanks go out to sales engineer James Wroblewski for his assistance through the process of getting my guit to me. I'm really pleased with this purchase and happy with my experience with Sweetwater.
My second Omen Extreme-6
I purchased the fixed bridge version of this guitar and was so impressed with every aspect of it that I decided to get a second one with the Floyd Rose. First the good: as with my other Schecter, the guitar is stunning and looks much more expensive than it is. The binding is perfect, the wood is gorgeous, and the hardware has a very cool but subtle "smoked chrome" finish that I love. The inlays alone will make people think this is a 4-figure guitar. The pickups sound great, as well.
Now the bad: my last one was perfectly set up out of the box and required no adjustments. This one was a little high, but no big deal (I thought). When I went to lower the bridge, I noticed it was already flush with the top of the guitar, and there's very little room to adjust it down lower without the front of the Floyd Rose hitting the bottom of the cavity. I'm considering a neck shim, which is unfortunate for a new guitar. I don't know if this is typical of this model of guitar, or if mine is a fluke.
My first Schecter was as good as any $ guitar I own and I gave it 5 stars. This one doesn't reach that level, but still warrants 4 stars given what you get for the price.
Very nice, though not for me
This is an extremely nice guitar in my view, especially if you like a neck in between extremely thin/fast necks and something which fills your hand. The fretwork and neck inlays were great, and the finish on the top were gorgeous. The whole guitar is solid-feeling and even though the pickups are not high-end, it has a good tone that would certainly improve with a pupgrade.
The guitar arrived with very low action, to the point that the entire fifth and sixth string had pronounced fret buzz, and significant buzz on lower frets of other strings. This would be resolved with a proper setup.
The guitar unfortunately caused me numbness during extended play due to the lack of an arm contour, where the edge hits my right arm. For someone where this wouldn't be an issue, I can definitely recommend this model. If you think you might have an issue with a thick guitar with a pronounced edge, you should try it at a local store first to avoid being charged double shipping on the return.
