The Ovox is a good plugin. It has a lot of creative potential. I've found better vocoder plugins, one especially that is free. Ovox does more than just vocoding however.

What I don't like is Waves business model. You have to pay for updates after a year. Most plugins I have owned, you pay once and updates are free at least until the new version is released. It's also kind of deceiving that you can get Waves plugins for a low price, and or free - but eventually you will have to pay money or your plugins and the software that manages them on your computer become obsolete and a compatibility issue.

The stickler here also is that the startup driver that manages the Waves plugins is part of the update package. Most plugins do not charge you to update their manage utility and startup driver. Waves does so and after awhile the startup driver for Waves becomes obsolete and you have performance and compatibility issues. After some time either you pay to have your updates, or you can't use the plugins. I'm talking about a PC here, not a Mac. The business model is the same for Mac, but I can not say about any start up drivers for Mac as I don't use one. Still I think it's true that eventually your Wave software will fall out of compatibility with Mac OS and you will have to pay to update. Everything could fall out of sync after a year.

If you love Waves plugins and value their updates and so will pay for an update package, that's fine. I only have a handful of Waves plugins and just don't like the concept of having to pay for updates for a plugin I already purchased. I also don't like that the startup driver in my startup folder is now not compatible with the latest version of Windows 11, and just to have that I have to pay for an update plan. I had to uninstall the old version of Waves Central and my old plugins because I was having startup issues on my PC. I get it. Software falls out of compatibility. It happens as technology advances. Waves says for a fee their software won't. I wish I could just keep my old plugins and they would remain compatible for more than a year with out having to pay up to keep them.

Take it for what it's worth. I can't even use this now because I updated my OS and now none of Wave's plugins work with it. Ovox wasn't great, to begin with. The textures and synth layer simulations aren't very unique. To top it off, now I have to buy additional annual support just to update my plugins. There are far better plugins with automatic updates. I wasted my money.

Amazing on vocals. Aggressive vocals do well with this on parallel with the right settings. It also makes for a phenomenal vocoder with endless possibilities.

If you don't want average vocals, or want to add a little snazzy, this is it.

The way they marketed it was really... derp. It's worst use is making music with your mouth lol.

If you get creative with it, it is a really phenomenal tool!

Waves offer no update support for their plugins. Total ripoff. I bought a whole suite of plugins and now they want to charge me an annual fee just to provide an update. Basically, if you update your OS or switch to an M1 processor on mac pro you'll have to pay all over again after 12 months.

Te interface is simple , maybe too simple, limited in what types of sounds you can produce.
The Synth FX are nice but not really designed specifically for voice.
I already have voice to Midi conversion with my Logic Pro Software so its easy to utilize and synth to add a blended synth voicing.

Our studio recently the purchased Waves OVox Vocal ReSynthesis plugin hoping it would approximate the impressive effects achieved by the free app called Voloco. Unfortunately, Volvo does not support the Protools AAX plugin format, so we were purchased the Waves vocal synth plugin, which does support AAX. Unfortunately, we find the Waves synth effects thin and uninspiring. We've had good experiences with other Waves plugins (we haven use their Platinum bundle), but we do not recommend this one. Very disappointed.

I love the flexibility, and combining it with other effects makes for something slightly original everytime. Thanks Ian!!

I'm only putting 4 stars, because I'm not so into all the heavy auto tune type presets. But, you can dial in a pretty analog sounding vocoder if that's what you're into. That's what I'm into. Also, a lot of fun with instruments...
