Marshall ORI20H Origin 20-watt Tube Head and ORI212A Origin 160-watt 2x12" Vertical Extension Cabinet Reviews

20-watt, 1-channel Guitar Amp Head with 3-band EQ, Tilt Control, Switchable Low/Mid/High Power Output, FX Loop, Gain Boost, Footswitch; 160-watt, 2x12" Vertical Closed-back Cabinet with Celestion Speakers; and Speaker Cable

In the market for a slant-cab Marshall stack that won't break your back en route from the van to the stage? The Marshall Origin 20 "quarter-stack" from Sweetwater is your ticket to real-deal British tube tone in an easy-hauling format. The Origin 20 amp head roars to life with the tonal authority of three ECC83 preamp tubes and two EL34 power tubes, along with the quick dialing-in simplicity of our favorite Jim Marshall heirloom amps. Onboard Powerstem output reduction keeps the Origin 20 sounding optimal at both bedroom and bedlam levels. The Origin 20 head is perfectly complemented visually and tonally by Marshall's matching upright ORI212A slant cab, loaded with two 12-inch Celestion Seventy 80 speakers to deliver that rootsy British chime and ample low-end punch. Just like Marshall's full-sized slant cabs, the ORI212A's slanted baffle directs sounds up to the stage and straight to the floor so players and listeners both can partake in that iconic Marshall tone. If you're looking to shave some poundage off your cartage, this Marshall Origin 20 half-stack delivers authoritative British tube tone in a reduced form factor.

Amazing!!!

By Christian L. from New York

Upgraded recently from my old fender showman solid amps to this masterpiece. Absolute killer tone you can get out of this, and tons of dials to mess around with. I couldn't recommend this enough.. just gotta get some celestial speakers in this thing now..

Great Amp For The Price

By Chris S. from Kaukauna, WI
Music Background: Performing musician, recording musician, producer, songwriter

Here's the skinny on this Minny. I will try too keep this short. I read a lot of reviews on this amp before I pulled the trigger on purchasing this. There were a lot of positive reviews along with some that were not so positive. I used to own a 1969 50 watt Marshall w/ tremolo (the tremolo didn't work) with a matching 4 x 12 bottom, I loved it, but I parted with it for something more portable and easier to control in any environment. So when I came across this set up I thought that I would take a chance and try it out. I had no expectations upon purchasing this amp, I know that it obviously wasn't going to be the 50 watt that I had earlier, but still I had a curiosity about it. The amp and the matching 2 x 12 slanted bottom arrived unharmed and packaged very well. Upon plugging into this amp I was absolutely amazed at how articulate the notes where and how punchy everything sounded, in a good way. It really does have the Marshall sound to it, it reminds me a lot of vintage Marshall's, of course minus the pants leg shaking from pushing some serious air. But don't let 20 watts fool you, this amp can make your ears ring ( If you ears ain't ringin' the amp ain't singin'). I've plugged PRS's, Joe Bonamassa Epiphone's, a Custom Shop Stat into this amp and each one sounds amazing. I didn't expect this at all, especially at this price point, you can't beat it. Huge thanks too Shelby Strunk and everyone at Sweetwater!!!! (Sorry, I got a little wordy)
BTW - The other power settings on this amp work great, you can still achieve a great tone at any one of the power settings that you choose and it also takes pedals very well too. WELL DONE MARSHALL!!!!!

Iconic tube amp sound for excellent pricing

By Ryan H. from North Jersey

She gets the job done and then some. Had a Benson tube amp which was nice but not quite what I wanted. Thank god for Corey Medina! I would highly recommend him, his knowledge and expertise had me with the perfect amp immediately. 5 star service and 5 star amp!

Coming back full circle

By JasonH

After a series of other amps over the years, it's a pleasure to come back to a Marshall again. This little stack has a great clean and boost tone by itself and is such a pedal friendly set up, that I'm putting off my anticipated speaker upgrades. If there's more improvement after the break in, I'll probably be asking myself, "why bother?" Thank you Jason for your help with this and other purchases.

Marshall Greatness

By michael m. from Lakeway, TX

Couldn't be happier with it. My first experience with an amp with an effects loop and it's pretty awesome too.
Love it and wouldn't hesitate to buy it again.

Great pedal platform

By Sweetwater Customer

Recieved my bundle 3-4weeks ago. Great sound in this head. The only minor thing is tge gain knob feels kinda funny when turning it. Other than that, great overdrive, lots of tone and good volume. I play mostly rock ( Alice in chains, soundgarden, ect...) with a very loud drummer. We had no problems hearing this head.

Also, and as always, customer service is excellent. My Sr Sales Engineer, Paul Allen, always goes beyond expectations to satisfy my needs.

Love the Vintage Tone, Clean and Nasty

By Ken from North Texas
Music Background: Playing guitar and keyboards for over 55 years.

I could not be more thrilled with the Marshall Origin 20H Head and it's companion the Marshall ORI212A cabinet since it's arrival a few weeks ago from Sweetwater. Got it the day before the Texas Blizzard of '21 shut the power down and had to wait for a week to plug it in! The tones of the ORI20H remind me of my first Marshall head and full stack I had in 1966. It has that "thunk" I was looking for with the first strum of my LP, my Strat sounds glorious when pushed with the volume and gain dialed in. It is clean and nasty when I drive some dirt pedals into the front, takes modulation pedals through the effects loop like a dream.

The fact that it is $ less expensive than the Marshall Studio Vintage 20 is not lost on me. It may not be "hand wired made in England" but I am not a snob if it sounds great which it does. Makes a great "bedroom" amp. Thanks to Nate Burkhardt for his help in securing the head and matching ORI212A cabinet for me before they were sold out.
