Amazing Bass
As a "returning to bass after a long absence" player, I was looking for an instrument that was high quality, not overly expensive, and that has great sound and tonal variety. I had played lower quality instruments way back when (30+ years ago) when I was playing with friends and trying to teach myself. I had no idea what I was really looking for now, especially since I committed to learning the bass properly this time around.
My sales rep, Jack Wellington, guided me through my research process and helped me arrive at the Omen Extreme-4. It's been a couple months since it arrived and I've really enjoyed playing it. The sound is very good, with the ability to create a wide variety of tones. The pickups are adequate for my needs right now, but I know I'll likely upgrade them to the actual EMGs that Schecter modeled them after.
I cannot say enough good things about my dealings with Sweetwater and the staff there. The 55 point inspection was good and the bass arrived in very playable condition. I did have a luthier give it a setup and he tweaked a few minor things to get the action where I wanted it. But it wasn't much he had to do to get it there. He remarked multiple times about how great the fit and finish were on the bass. It won't be my last bass, but I'm pretty sure it'll always be in my collection. It's too good to let go of, especially for the price.
The Omen
I will start with the fact that I did not buy my Omen-4 from Sweetwater but I have had it for over a year.
Honestly, the bass is well rounded instrument for the price point. The frets feel pretty good overall. The neck feels really smooth and soft which allows for fast playing up and down the neck with no resistance.
The pick-ups, being the reproduction second-rate humbucking pickups they are, are lacking in tonal variety and feel overly compressed. They don't seem to punch or growl like EMG, Fishman, or Seymour Duncan pickups can.
But other than that, the bass is definitely a great buy for an intermediate musician or some looking for a work horse to get the job done. I would advise buying EMG pickups or Seymour Duncan's to replace the stock pickups though. Luckily Sweetwater carries both!
