Guild OM-240E Acoustic-electric Guitar - Natural Reviews
Guild's iconic arched back makes its return in the Westerly OM-240E acoustic-electric. The purpose of this trademark feature is twofold: principally, it reduces weight and increases live projection. But it also pays tribute to some of Guild's popular models, like the D-25 and F-30. The result is a great-playing, easy-traveling guitar with Guild's unmistakable look. The Westerly OM-240E harks back to Guild's golden-era flat tops with some exciting vintage specs, including a mid-sized Orchestra body made from premium woods, a classic Guild C-shape neck, and a retro red tortoiseshell pickguard. The OM-240E includes the AP-1 pickup for a clean sound that plugs straight into a PA.

Great Guitar
This is a really nice guitar. I've had a few Guild guitars and have loved each and every one. For some reason I can't explain I've always played dreadnaughts. I decided to try a smaller body guitar and boy am I pleased I did. It sounds great although not as deep as my dreadnaughts, which is totally expected. The Guild quality is still there even though they are not made in America (at least this one isn't) anymore.
So - if you are looking for a really nice guitar that won't break you pocketbook you should check out the 240 series from Guild. High quality, great sound at a price that's affordable. Pretty hard to beat that combo.
Finally a shout out to Jonathan Casarow, my sales rep at Sweetwater. I ALWAYS get straight answers from him and I have never been disappointed when dealing with him.
Just What I Hoped For
This Guild was my first OM sized guitar. The price was great. It was setup well and ready to go after unpacking. I've played it for a couple of weeks now and it's the most comfortable acoustic I have owned. I love the 25.5" scale and shallow depth. It is shallow and slender, but has plenty of projection.
Just what I was looking for
I've picked up more solo gigs recently and was looking for a mid-range acoustic-electric with a professional look and sound. This guitar was ready to go straight out of the box, wider neck than I expected but still comfortable to play during my longer sets (2-3 hours.) Intonation is great and I love the look and feel of the natural wood. My first Guild and I will talk about it to anyone who will listen. Thanks Sweetwater for making this process so easy!
Guild D25
I feel the D25 is one of the finest guitar models I have ever played. Why don't I see any comments on the D25 in your articles?
Beautiful Playing Guitar
I recently bought a Guild OM-240E and just absolutely love the quality of workmanship. The size is very comfortable to just pick up and start playing. Very easy playing neck and sounds beautiful. I've always loved Guilds and this one does not disappoint. I will be playing this one for a long time.
Guild again!
50 years ago, I played my first guild acoustic. It was love at first strum, the tone, the playability...
I then purchased the Guild 12 string and held a concert sound in my hands.
Years have passed but my new Guild 240e is just as amazing as the first one. The active Fishman pick ups are responsive and solid, making this a joy to play and hear. Craftsmanship is tight and long on looks.
Thanks for continuing to improve an already amazing ax!
Great Guitar Value at this price range
This is my 4th Electro Acoustic guitar. The playability is great with low action right out of the box. It has a crisp and bright sound with attitude! The fretboard is soft and quick. The body is easily handled and light. You can play almost everything with this Guild. The overall finish of this guitar is somehow vintage and well made. I feel very lucky to have bought this Guild OM 240E at this price level.
Love this thing!
After several Ovation (American Made) and Yamaha guitars, I finally purchased a Guild. While it's not their most expensive guitar, I am very pleased. The quality and craftsmanship are evident the minute you take it out of the box. Action and intonation are spot on. Not only that...this thing is just beautiful to look at. Never owned a dreadnought before but I'm in love already. The jumbos of the past were always too bass heavy to fit into a band well (without some serious eq). This guitar has beautiful tone, is easy to play, and what can I say about the electronics. Love that Fishman pickup. I considered another Yamaha and probably would have gotten it if it were not backordered. So pleased that it worked out this way.
Gets better better
I purchased this guitar from Sweetwater close to a year ago but was in no rush to write a review. But I felt compelled to write now because I am overwhelmed with how great this guitar sounds and plays. The sound has truly improved with its still young age, having become even more tonally balanced and smoother. The action is good and it stays in tune. And it happens to be a beautiful looking guitar. My one negative is that the fretboard is a bit sharp. I wish it was more rounded. Having recently played several Taylor's and Martin guitars, I can say that this guitar sounds far better than guitars costing much more. I don't know how Guild can produce such a fine instrument at this price. Are there better guitars, sure, but not at this price. One could just not go wrong buying this guitar.
Look no further for a concert guitar at any price
I was in the market for a concert guitar and ended up buying another brand at a higher price that I was not satisfied with. I then went from store to store demoing different bands until I tried the Guild M-240E. First off the craftsmanship is top notch. I would classify the neck to be a slightly modified C shape making it very playable for some of us with stubby fingers. The frets are dead perfect and the action set comfortably low with not a hint of buzz. The arched back is projects the sound of a much bigger guitar body with perfect balance between the mid and low range tones. And I hadn't even plugged it in yet!
Beyond expectations
This was a pleasant surprise! The quality of this instrument far exceeds its price. Would highly recommend !
Great value
My first Guild after playing Martins for years...the neck has a different feel to it, a bit rounder than my Martin. Very light guitar but this thing is loud ! Has a very articulate sound when finger picking as well...great sounding overall.
Guild is Good
This is not only a fine inexpensive guitar, it is a fine guitar! I've been around for 60+ years and started playing guitar at 10 years old. I've bought and sold guitars in every decade since the 60's which has allowed me to see the evolution of them for over 50 years. Point is, this kind of quality didn't exist back in the day and even 10 years ago. There are only two things I would mention as potential downsides to this the guitar. First, the arched back is not braced and seems delicate. It definitely produces quality sound, but the guitar is super lightweight and I would avoid having it available to smaller children or placed in a position where it could get knocked over. Second, the pickup controls are kind of wonky. They sound the best set somewhere near the middle and just left alone. Both tone and volume affect the sound quality and anywhere past the middle setting loses some of that quality and starts becoming shrill. It's not a problem at all because the sweet spot produces excellent sound. Everything else about this guitar is perfect. Action is low and buzz free and the light weight is a bonus. Fit and finish is flawless. If someone told me this guitar was twice it's price, I would still be impressed because the guitar is shockingly good.
Great guitar
this is my first guitar and im loving the premium quality feel of this guitar
I'm forever loyal to Guild.
First off, this was my first guitsr purchase from Sweetwater and I can say they go the extra mile!
Sweetwater sent me professionally shot photos of my OM240-E before it shipped.
Then I received a call from Mitch at SW discussing the guitar and my personal music interests.
Mitch is awesome and I appreciated all his efforts.
He even followed-up with me by phone a few weeks after I got my OM.
This guitar looks, sounds, and plays flawlessly. It seems almost underpriced for what quality you get.
For 25 years I have owned acoustic guitars in the $2,000-$3,000 price range and this OM240 is the best guitar for the money.
I own two other new GAD Westerly's (D240-E Flamed Mahogany & F250-E Deluxe Jumbo) in addition to this OM240.
I also own a 70s-era Guild D-55 my Father gave me.
All three of these Guilds have on point intonation, nice loud projection and has that crisp Guild tone.
This i the best acoustic guitar I have bought for the money
You can't possibly go wrong with this OM240-E..or any of Guild's Westerly series guitars.
Great little guitar.
I've been playing a recording king dirty 30s OOO for three years, and this is a whole new galaxy of guitar quality. Fit, finish, and setup are all great for the price range. The neck profile is very comfy if you like chunkier necks (I do). The satin finish is fast but not slick and sweaty feeling. Good balanced sound at the low end of the fretboard, a little weaker at the high end, but not enough to bother me. It's very responsive to attack: it sounds great with bare fingers but doesn't get muddy or brassy when I bang on it with a pick. The pickup is exactly what I was hoping for: good sound reproduction, no frills no fuss. It's not my dad's vintage J-45 or even his GS-mini, but it holds its own.
Great sound and sustain...
Was really surprised when I got this yesterday and started playing it this morning after the 24 hour wait!. Sustain is endless, has a beautiful bellow to it. Cant beat the price! Bought this one blind for my wife to learn on and its far exceeded expectations. Really comfortable is an understatement, electronics are Fishman and sounds perfect through my amp with a little delay and chorus or without. Will be looking at a F-40 next for me. Ive always been a Martin and Gibson player but this might change things a bit. Check one out and give Andy Scheer a call.
nice axe
i own this guitar. my 1st real guitar was a guild d25 i bought in 1974 and pretty much wore it out. of course this is a Chinese instrument with laminated back and sides, but, that being said it plays great and sounds good plugged in or not (with the right pick). i use a fishman mini loudbox amp and a berringer pedal (cheap but great!!). had sharp fret ends and the neck doesn't seem like a slim C to me. anyway, for the money it's great, much better than my old gs mini or other over priced laminate guitars I have owned.
Poor Setup
Seems like great guitar on the surface, looks fantastic, great size and comfortable. But (and no minor matter) setup as delivered 100% unplayable. Terrible action, dead spots on neck. I have 5 guitars, some with stiff action, but this is the only one on the edge of causing bleeding fingers. Trying to fix setup with local guitar tech, will see how it goes, but it is adding $ to cost. It happens. Not upset, I should have asked more questions about standard setup and requested a setup for normal humans before I purchased.
