Guild OM-240CE, Orchestra Acoustic-Electric Guitar - Natural Reviews

Acoustic-electric Guitar with Solid Sitka Spruce Top, Mahogany Sides and Neck, Arched Mahogany Back, and Indian Rosewood Fingerboard - Natural

Guild's iconic arched back makes its return in the Westerly OM-240CE acoustic-electric. The purpose of this trademark feature is twofold: principally, it reduces weight and increases live projection. But it also pays tribute to some of Guild's popular models, like the D-25 and F-30. The result is a great-playing, easy-traveling guitar with Guild's unmistakable look. The Westerly OM-240CE harks back to Guild's golden-era flat tops with some exciting vintage specs, including a mid-sized Orchestra body made from premium woods, a classic Guild C-shaped neck, and a retro red tortoiseshell pickguard. The OM-240CE includes the AP-1 pickup for a clean sound that plugs straight into a PA.

Thank You Guild For An Easy Playing Great Sounding Guitar!

By Jonathan Howland from Allentown PA on December 14, 2023 Music Background: Novice

Thank you Guild for an excellent guitar to learn to play better. This guitar sounds like it is being played in a cathedral. All chords and notes reverberate with great clarity and sustain, seeming to last forever. The low action, scalloped bracing, bone nut and saddle and arched back make it sound fantastic. I started playing a while ago and couldn't play barre chords. The longer scale on my Guild and low action make this instrument much easier for me to play. Don't let the fact that it is made in China discourage you. The craftsmanship and sound is superb. The price was great for a guitar with all the features you want that will not break the bank and comes with a heavenly sound!

Thank you Lucas my Sound Engineer for all your help making this purchase a memorable one.

Guild OM-240CE

By Jonathan Howland from PA on December 12, 2023 Music Background: Novice

Thank you Guild for an excellent guitar to learn to play better. This guitar sounds like it is being played in a cathedral. All chords and notes reverberate with great clarity and sustain, seeming to last forever. The low action, scalloped bracing, bone nut and saddle and arched back make it sound and play much better than guitars costing more than double. I started playing more than 5 years ago and couldn't play barre chords on my Taylor Academy 12e. The longer scale on my Guild and low action make this instrument much easier to play. Don't let the fact that it is made in China discourage you. The craftsmanship and sound of this guitar is second to none. The price was great for a guitar with all the features you want that will not break the bank and comes with a heavenly sound!

Thank you Lucas Payson my Sound Engineer for all your help in making this purchase a memorable one. I also bought a Gator Case (GC Dread) to protect it.

Guild gets it!

By P. Henry from Chicago on January 26, 2023 Music Background: “Beginner”

Just received my new OM-240CE.

Could not be more pleased. Great build quality and attention to detail, almost surprising given the price point.

Sounds bright, good projection, neck and action are perfect.

In short, a beautiful guitar!

Great guitar

By Jeff B from NC on August 19, 2022 Music Background: Played guitar for over 20 years.

I have been a Guild fan for several years, the Westerly series OM-240ce lives up to the high standards set by Guild. The sound is very good, not as good as my HD-35 but then again it costs 85% less. The pickup is good, setup is good, intonation is good, and the finish is as good as anything in this price range. All the way around this is an excellent guitar, for the money I doubt you'll find better.
The sales and service from Sweetwater was excellent. My sales engineer Charlie Kim was very knowledgable and helped me choose the right guitar for my need. The packing job was the best I have ever seen. Thanks Sweetwater you guys are the best.

I love my new guild guitar. The action on it is awesome compared to the one i replaced it with. My fingers are very happy. This guitar made me want to play alot more.

Very good guitar for the money!

By Sweetwater Customer on August 10, 2020

I'm really pleased with the build quality, sound and playability of this very affordable guitar. I had seen many good reviews, and the guitar I received was at least as good or better. There's not a lot of bling on this guitar, but that's fine with me - I appreciate having a quality instrument at a good price. And Sweetwater's setup was well worth the extra investment.

WOW!

By Casey from Iowa on August 8, 2020 Music Background: Intermediate

First off, let me thank Sweetwater for sending me this guitar perfectly set up and my sales engineer Brent Leuthold for pointing me in the right direction. Now, don't let the fact that this guitar is made in China scare you. The guitar is great! Plays just as well as high end acoustics and sounds absolutely stellar. It has good bass response for an OM sized guitar, has crystal clear highs, and punchy mids. This guitar is particularly good for fingerpicking, but can be used any way the player desires. It is super versatile. Good luck finding a better all solid wood acoustic at this price point. This is my first Guild, and I will definitely be buying another in the future.

Great Sounding Guitar!

By Daniel Ortiz from San Diego, CA on June 20, 2020 Music Background: Worship Pastor

What can I say, this guitar is amazing! It has a beautiful well rounded tone, it's balanced. What I love about it is how comfortable it is to play. This guitar is super light, but it has a beautiful tone. I use Elixir 80/20 on it and this guitar sings. The Electronics are great as well! I always get compliments from the FOH on how nice this guitar sounds even compared to some Martin/Taylors.

Easy to play with low action

By Caren from El Paso on May 19, 2020 Music Background: Novice who loves guitars

...the guitar is easy to play and has low action which I love. The tuners seem small compared to other guitars I have, but that's no problem. My hands are small. It's not as beautiful as some of my other guitars, but it plays really well and has a good sound.

Nice guitar, great value

By David Hughes from KNOXVILLE, TN on February 13, 2020

I picked one of these up recently for the ability to plug in an acoustic when needed. It plays very nicely, the tone is warm overall but the mahogany back and sides provide a bright and articulate high end. I love the understated retro styling and open back tuners. The electronics are simple, effective, and visually discreet. Overall, this is a nice mid-priced guitar that plays great. (FYI - the Silver Creek Vintage Dreadnought Archtop Case fits perfectly if you want something more substantial than a gig bag.)

Fantastic Guitar!

By Sweetwater Customer on December 25, 2019

I recently got this Guild OM-240CE, and I couldn’t be happier! It plays so smooth and it’s small size makes it wonderful for my smaller frame, yet the sound boasts the quality not found in most full size guitars! Can’t beat the quality here!

Great Playing Acoustic-Electric

By Sweetwater Customer on June 15, 2019

I purchased this guitar from another store, but i have to say this is the best acoustic-electric I've played in awhile.

My first 6 string

By Sweetwater Customer on January 29, 2022

This is a great guitar that I have played everyday since I purchased it. The pickups are nice enough for gigging and the guitar is built with great woods and manufacturing. The cutaway version gives a lot of nice options and the neck has a great texture that isn't sticky like some glossed guitars are. I will definitely look to Guild for more acoustic/electric guitars.

What a beauty! Thanks guild!

By GuitarMuk from The CLE on November 12, 2021 Music Background: Gigging guitar player/Vocalist.

Bought this to keep handy next to my recliner for picking at home. But after playing it for a while I
plan on gigging with it. Lightweight, beautifully crafted OM acoustic. Sounds really nice. Mid-rangy, with good overtones. Very pleasing tone. Fit and finish are excellent. Just a really nice guitar. Thanks Guild!

Fantastic sounding and playing Acoustic for gigging

By Nathan Scholz from Charlottesville, VA on August 13, 2020 Music Background: Gigging musician, audio engineer, singer/songwriter

I just got this guitar to use as an alternative to a nicer gibson I have while gigging out (mostly playing bars/breweries, outside in the HUMID Virginia air). While I haven't had a chance to really "stress" test this at an actual performance yet, this guitar looks, feels, and sounds amazing. The action and intonation from sweetwater were PERFECT upon unboxing it, and while it doesn't have a glossy finish like most "nice" acoustics, I actually love the way the satin feels when playing.

My only complaint about this guitar is that I don't love the fact that you can tell the different piece of wood used to make the headstock and neck heel, but I can only ask for so much in terms for the price point of this guitar, I just wish Guild had tried to match the grain/seam a little better. At least that's all on the back where no one can see it but me.

"budget" acoustic's have come a LOOOONG way in the past 5-10 years, and this guitar is definitely at the top of it's class, well worth the price and definitely plays better than most other acoustics in the sub 500 price range.

I Love the Sound - but the Electric Input is Broken

By Nick from USA on July 3, 2020 Music Background: Self Taught

I'm a big fan of the sound of this guitar, and how naturally it feels in my hands. It came shipped with great strings, somehow perfectly in tune, and it has a great, deep acoustic sound and feel to it. My only complaint (is a big one) is that the electric input doesn't work. I think it was likely a factory defect, as I checked all the cables and knobs, and tried it on multiple amps. I doubt this is a common issue, and I am currently working with Sweetwater and Guild to see what can be done about it. All in all for an acoustic guitar - the price point is great for the quality. Highly recommend.
