Hosa ODL-312 S/PDIF Optical to AES/EBU Digital Audio Interface Reviews
Mix-down or transfer of digital recordings from one manufacturer's digital recorder to another's isn't always straightforward. Some digital work stations, sound cards or DAT recorders have S/PDIF optical outputs, and some offer only AES/EBU inputs, or vice versa.

Does the job
I am using this to turn optical SPDIF from my television (Ps5 audio reference for game sound) into AES to feed my Dangerous Music D-BOX+. Works like a charm.
Works like a charm!!!
Thank you!
Does what's on the tin
This is a perfect pairing with a Dante AVIO AES converter for a cost-effective conversion from consumer digital all the way to Dante for connecting, specifically, a CD player to the Dante network with no audio fidelity loss.
Hosa converter
It works as promised. Converts AES to optical. I don't know what to add beyond that.
Excellent Device for converting to TOSLink input
Easily and accurately converted my 24 bit 96Khz AES\EBU output on my Line6 Helix to TOSLink fiber optic input on back of my Motu Ultralite AVB recording interface. Recorded Helix at 24 bit 96K with no pops or issues.
Solid and painless
I needed something to take the SPDIF from a Prism Lyra 1 and convert it to AES so I could integrate it into the Pro Tools HDX system at the studio. This works perfectly for that. Basically makes the Lyra 1 function exactly as the Burl B2 Bombers do in the same system (however by saving and recalling 2 different scenes I can switch the Lyra back and forth between operating in standalone and it's USB thus bypassing the annoying core audio driver, but that's a different review). No discernible latency or glitches of any sort, just plugged it in and got to work. Great utility devices like this are underrated.
Perfect!!!
I previously ordered two different cheaper converters from other sites but I was very disappointed because no manufacturer states that their converters are only capable to handle up to 48khz. So the result was just waste of money and time, now they stay in my drawer just for nothing! This one can handle up to 24 bit 96khz and it really does!!! Plus you get two channels with vice versa conversion! Not only one way and one channel! It is built very solid and it does the job perfect. I contacted with Hosa to make sure it can handle 88.1 and 96 and the guys at Hosa were so helpful and they replied right away. Fully appreciated! Don't try to save money with cheaper options since they will cost you much more than going with Hosa in the first attempt. Paying over $2000 for Burl ADC and trying to save $90 for the converter :))) Ok I admit I was an idiot:) Anyways, highly recommended!
Great for converting optical output to AES for D-Box!
I used this to connect a TEAC CD-P650 with toslink (optical s/pdif) output to a Dangerous D-BOX on the Digital AES CD source switching input. It works great for listening to a CD through the D-BOX D/A converters and for A/Bing the DAW input to the CD input.
However, I don't listen to too many CDs anymore... the main thing I wanted the TEAC for was to connect my iPhone 5s via the iPod USB input on the front of the CD player. This works great! I get to keep a fully digital signal from my iPhone 5s all the way to the D/A converters of the D-BOX. This was the best bang for the buck 'digital iPod/iPhone dock' I could cobble together, and you basically get CD output for free. It is, of course, not super portable, but that didn't bother me.
The CD player employs 'iPod Direct Mode' which lets you continue to use your iPod/iPhone normally (run apps, check email, etc). This is great, as in the past some things I've plugged my iPods/iPhones into would take over the unit, display a logo on the screen, and require all functions to be performed via the host (typically seen in car stereos). Not so with this setup.
Hosa AES/EBU to Optical Converters
I am happy with it. The resulting sound is more clear than my existing converter. Female vocal has larger sound stage and the bass is tighter.
