Electro-Harmonix OD Glove MOSFET Overdrive / Distortion Pedal Reviews
Slap your amplifier with the electro-harmonix OD Glove overdrive pedal for guitar tone that's biting and defined. There's no tonal mud here - MOSFET semi-conductors give the OD Glove a harmonically rich sound with a surprisingly wide distortion range. Even when you've got the gain dimed and the mid-boost switch engaged, you can clean your tone up to a whisper with just your guitar's volume knob. And with an internal 9V/18V switch, you can even adjust the feel of the electro-harmonix OD Glove overdrive pedal.

Awesome OD
Totally surprised at how great this pedal sounds for the price! Extremely pleased with the price and tone! It's definitely staying on my pedal board.Love it!
Awesome Pedal
I just purchased one of these used and I am blown away. It doesn't take any effort whatsoever to find a good sound out of this pedal. It is exactly what I have been chasing my tail to find the perfect Overdrive / Fuzz pedal. It cleans up when you back off guitar volume. Best Overdrive I have used. Very simple and powerful.
WONDERFUL
The Glove pedal has an overdrive like no other and I love it so much. I highly recommend adding this pedal to your collection! Thank you Rogan for your help!
Glove Overdrive
Bought this as a back up to my Fulltone OCD that I love so much. now I find myself having them both on my board. The glove does an adequate job of sounding like the OCD. I would say the OCD is definitely built better, and will probably outlast the glove. But it's a great addition to the pedal board . I've purchased a lot of petals over the years, but if I had to pick just one pedal, it would be the OCD or the glove covers everything. Works great with having a boost after it to pump up the volume for leads or roll your volume down and cleans up. My favorite setting is in the picture I love this petal because it's not overly bright can't stand bright pedals
Dynamic OD Pedal
This OD pedal is killer going straight into my clean channel on my tube amp.
A top shelf OD pedal at an affordable pedal price.
just what i needed
maybe "need" is an overstatement.
but after trying out different overdrive pedals the od glove is exactly what i was looking for.
it's stacks perfectly on the fly rig plexi.
it's great by itself.
it can do light crunch and full on distortion.
i like it for the crunch with the 18v setting and the tone shift on.
That Obsessive Fuzzy Distortion
This is an excellent pedal and does a great job of getting that OCD-ish distortion sound. It gives a variety of different tones based on the amp and guitar you are using. You also can't argue with the price.
Power Glove
Santa brought me an OD Glove this year. Between the Tone Shift and the internal 9 - 18 volt switch, you can get a lot of different sounds from this pedal. I've played this through a JCM800 2204 and an Overdrive 200 and both sounded killer with this overdrive. I like the OD Glove most with a P90's guitar. EHX never disappoints.
Great Overdrive
This overdrive is seriously amazing. It does everything from SRV to ACDC. I play all genres of music and I always find myself stomping on this pedal to give me the sounds im looking for.
Great dang pedal
This pedal sounds great! I am a new guitar player, I have a ProCo Rat, Soul Food, Tube Screamer, and honestly I feel like this pedal would suffice for all three, for what I need anyway. No expert, but I know what sounds good, and this sounds good.
Great overdrive!
This pedal can be used as a boost or overdrive. It has an open tone that adds a lot of character. Whether you're using humbuckers or single coils, you won't be disappointed. The tone knob is very musical; it has a wide frequency range. Overall, I gave it five stars due to its quality of sound, build and price!
Better Than Expected
No longer need a Fuzz or Distortion pedal. This works better than any of them and I have several nice Fuzz pedals. Some cost big bucks.
EHX Glove
The EHX Glove is proof positive that you don't have to spend a lot in order to get a great overdrive. Great tones are easily dialed in. My two main guitars are a Reverend Double Agent and a Fender Player Series Strat ... My go to amp is a Supro 1970RK and the EHX Glove fits them like a Glove. Highly recommend this pedal !
Stunned ....
Like I suppose all guitar players, continually looking for a sound, I liked what I heard from the great Sweetwater demo's they do so I said okay...I will try it. Holy smokes, for the money this pedal kicks some major butt. I am pretty much a home studio player (I'm an old guy) but like to play and get those sounds I like. I paired this pedal right into my little Fender 50X amp with one of my SG (Epiphone) guitars, added a touch of reverb and absolutely love the clean drive this pedal gives. Volume and tone set at about 50% and drive from 50% to 100% and just amazed at what a $... pedal can do. In my mind, a huge value for the money. Do yourself a favor ... get one!
glove overdrive
If you are looking for a multipurpose overdrive/distortion pedal that adds gain without color this is for you. This compares to the OCD pedal but at a much lower price and sounding better. I set the controls on the glove at 12 oclock with the mid switch off and the internal switch at 18 volts thru a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe or a Hot Rod Pro Junior with a Fender Nashville Telecaster. I use the guitar's volume and tone controls with the pickup selector to get the sound I am looking for. I leave the Glove on for the whole show using the guitar's controls to go from Smoking Gun clean to Manic Depression lead to Bad Love drive tones and the audience response has been tremendous. At the price of the Glove, there is no reason not give this a try.
Love it
Got this last Xmas and just cant stop using it. Some say it is muddy but its not mud just set up to keep the lows intact. Have you ever played in a band and had the bass player and drummer yell at you to kill the treble? Well this will shut them up. The treble is there but so is the bass. This thing gives you a full range of tone, high and low plus harmonics that dont stop. Use it for blues, classic rock, or any other style you want. EHX was spot on with this.....it IS a slap in the face and sounds great.
Love The Glove
I was never a big fan of EHX until I got this pedal. I use through the clean channel of my DSL40 with the amps gain set to a light break up and I am more the happy with the tone. Great pedal.
What's not to love?
Great price point. Small footprint. Solid build. Sounds great, little to no tweaking.
Like the description says, it's an OD/distortion pedal with wide distortion range. Think plexi-style tube-driven sound, not garden variety TS vibe. If the former's the timbre you're looking for packed in a pedal, grab this one.
First Overdrive Pedal I actually like
Like most of us, I love new equipment, but I am not a pedal person. I was thinking of a 3 channel amp, but I'm not tight with money, but I really don't need one either.
I really have no idea how I found out about the EH Glove, but I came to Sweetwater and watched the review, and was thinking "yeah it sounds good, but they can make anything sound good to sell it".
At the price, I thought I would give it a go. Wow. I had no idea I was in the market for a pedal. Now realize, I use Boogie amps, all older Mark IIa or Mark IIb, so distortion is not an issue for me, nor is sustain or tone.
I have channel 1 set at a great clean sound, and instead of cranking channel 2 drive to 7 or higher, I keep it about 5, and this is where the Glove comes in. I do a little tweaking on the pedal, and now I have Channel 3.
I keep all the great Boogie tone, sustain, and drive, and this just gives me that boost for leads. I actually inspired me to play and write again. For less than $70, I now have the 3 channel Boogie, and my wife is not yelling about how there is no room in my music room.
I'm still going to buy a JP-2C+ when (Sweetwater's) Bart talks me into it, but for now I have my Boss TU-2 Tuner, my Glove and that's it.
I'm sure many reading are thinking I can't afford other pedals or amps or gear. I assure you, I have racks, I have Hughs & Kettners, Boogies, HiWatt, Fender and many other amps. I have tc electronic effects, I have old stuff like ADA Preamps, and new stuff, I have multi-effects and stuff like POD HD500X . I just really don't need stuff. But this Glove is interesting, and if you're thinking about a distortion or overdrive pedal, I'm hard pressed to think you won't enjoy this.
And when you buy it, and try it out, and that smile comes to your face, think of this post, and "you're welcome"......
My Plexi solution
On a clean amp sounds very much like a Plexi (18v mode), can sound a bit fuzzy with some amps but a little eq'ing cures such problem. Nice warm sound.
On 9v mode, its very compressed. Anyone that picks light or who wants sensitivity when shredding (like for tapping) will love the 9v mode.
The Glove fits
I purchased the Glove from Sweetwater and it does sound like an overdriven Marshall amp. I used it at a gig and it performed like a champ. Very smooth distortion for leads and chords. I have several overdrives and distortion pedals including a Fulltone Plimsoul, T-Rex Yellow Drive, Digitech Distortion Factory and Bad Monkey as well as a T-Rex Totenshlager. The Glove sounds great through a clean amp and gets the job done nicely. I recommend!
Beautiful Pedal
EH did a fantastic job with the OD Glove. A wide variety of distortion is what you get with this one. Simply put, if you use this pedal with the clean channel on your amp and you want a dirty sound this will deliver. Unlike so many distortion pedals, the OD Glove will retain it's beautiful, thick overdriven distortion at high volume levels. No shrill, no loss of it's full spectrum of tone. If you are looking for a pedal to push your already overdriven amp, this isn't it.
More distortion than overdrive
People give this pedal a bad rating at times because they bought it as an overdrive pedal. I watched a few demo's and realized that it was more of a distortion pedal than an overdrive so I bought it with that in mind. To me it sounds like an older Marshall, I had a JCM 800 at one time and this is like it, without all the hum and feedback. I love this pedal. I run it behind the East River Drive which I use for my Overdrive.
Run it on the 18V setting and treat it as a distortion pedal and you will not be disappointed, plus the price is incredible.
It's always the ones you least suspect
I'm not sure what I expected, but I am glad I gave this pedal a shot because it's another one of those things you find that you didn't know you needed. It has its own specific lane, but is very versatile. I think of it as a higher gain staple OD/Distortion pedal that can be kicked on or left on (depending on the amp.) I have never tried this pedal's supposed inspiration, so I cannot discuss any comparisons. Nor do I know even wht I would compare it to otherwise. I just know it plays well with other pedals and can either push an amp into ludicrous speed or be kept tamed for extra crunch.
One note: I have noticed that going into Marshall amps, the tone gets quite bright, so be prepared to lower the high's on the amp quite a bit.
Solid Pedal!
I was going to give this pedal a lower rating, but then I watched Josh from JHS pedals showing how to stack pedals and it changed my mind. At first, I wasn't too happy with the gain on this pedal, it just sounded too muddy for me, but then I set it with very low gain at 9 o'clock and stacked it with a cheap clone of the Klon with the gain at 3 o'clock and this thing sounds awesome! I feel like this is the way I will be using this pedal, I will just stay on at all times for low gain. As always, always a pleasure buying from Sweetwater. You guys rock!
Fits great!
Say what you will about a certain pedal maker who had a little freakout on facebook, I don't really care that much, but I still thought it wasn't a good look to keep his pedals on my board given the times we're living in. I was already kind of wanting to move on and find something different - so it ended up being a good excuse to get rid of it. I tried a bunch of stuff, but ultimately I ended up missing the (organic?) feel of said pedal. The biggest thing I missed was being able to roll off the volume and get a nice clean sound. When I found out the Glove OD was a clone, and a reasonably priced one at that, I decided to give it a shot. Man... I like it a lot. I think I like it more than the original. I can't say for sure, since I can't A/B them, but it seems like the Glove is a touch tighter and a lot more harmonically rich. I flipped the internal voltage switch to 18v, which sounds a lot better to my ears than the stock 9v setting. I'm really pleased with this pedal for it's quality of sound, feel, construction, and of course, the price.
Sweet
Exactly what I was looking for. Great little pedal. Sweet OD to nasty distort. I can set the eq up on it and use the guitar vol. Very nice and great sweetwater team also (as always)
Impressive
Very good pedal. A&B the Glove and it's a want to be to the cream colored compulsive one. If you know what I mean. However that being said when I A&B the two I heard a difference not in tone but in sustain. The tone is almost identical from what I could here. When I set both pedals with the same settings the compulsive one had just a little more sustain. Just a little. Sustain variance was clocked in approximately 2-3 seconds longer for the the compulsive one. Added a little more gain on the Glove and the sustain was closley matched. The cost for the Glove is hard to pass up. Honestly I was very impressed with the Glove. It sounds very good. I would recommend this to any musician at any level to save money and have a very good sound.
Glove
Nice dirty high gain distortion. If I had to make a choice I'd rate the tic electronics dark matter slightly higher for sound quality. This one does what it's supposed to and the price is right. EHX is a good company and can do no wrong by me. This was a nice bridge to the new Soul Food pedal which is my all time favorite EHX product.
It prefers certain amps
It really accents the midrange on my Fender twin RI, especially at moderate volume. Tends to sound a bit mired in mids on my Marshall SV20H. I never messed with the voltage switch inside.
its good to have it you like the style
the one I have is pretty true to the descriptions. its a little more pricey than perhaps the DOD was (if you can find it) there are a number of good mosfets around. But if someone stole mine, I would likely buy it again.
Very versatile
Works great!! I use it always switched on with a small amount of gain for my clean channel before my DS2 and it gives it a bit plexi crunch. Could also be used by itself for many different styles. Doesn't have the gain I need by itself for me, but I like a lot of distortion. But it does make already good distortion sound better.
OD Glove
Great pedal!! At a great price.. From great people..
Great pedal for the price!
This pedal can do it all. It has so much gain capability yet it doesn't lose tone when you play it clean. If you're looking for a cheap pedal this is the one you want. If you're looking for an expensive pedal you still should take a look at the Glove! I have an OCD (which the pedal is modeled after) and they sound nearly identical.
Solid
Excellent pedal for achieving higher gain, colors the sound just right without having to push the amp, especially if you need to play it at bedroom volumes.
OD Glove
Very clean. Will go from zero to a warm overdrive with no bumps. It is not a fuzz or distortion. It is a nice addition to a deluxe reverb and strat.
It's really more for Metal
I was hoping for an overdrive style guitar pedal, but this is more for those seeking distortion for metal playing.
The Glove
Takes a little tweaking but overall it sounds good depending what amp is used. Mine came with a very weak battery. Never got a replacement for it when I spoke to the folks @ Sweat Water. So I purchased an alkaline 9 volt battery for it. No big deal. It works. The 9 volt to 18 volt switching is almost unnoticeable. Overall not a bad backup for my OCD Version 4. Cost is a plus.
"Glove slap distortion" not overdrive
Not an over drive, very little clean boost then a huge amount of distortion which is what it should be called "Glove slap distortion". also tone switch off is so mid scoped and compressed its worthless imo.
Though this was a Soul Food Plus I was wrong
I bought a soul food and thought I want the same thing with some more distortion range, I was wrong. This is a rather high gain pedal (NOT AN OVERDRIVE AT ALL)with a very touchy gain control. Goes from mild blues to blistering high gain from about 8-9 oclock and just is slightly more distorted from 10oclock to full gain. The tone knob out is so scoped its unusable for low gain and engaged its close to flat eq with a little bass hum. Im going to get another soul food and use two for higher gain and one for mild boost.
