Electro-Harmonix Octavix Fuzz / Octave Up Pedal Reviews
You can't argue that octave and fuzz effects don't go hand in hand, and you get both in the electro-harmonix Octavix fuzz/octave pedal. Whether your guitar has single-coil or humbucking pickups, you can coax a wide range of vintage fuzz effects from the Octavix. Guitarists at Sweetwater especially dig the switchable 9V/24V operation - at 9V the Octavix sounds like a vintage fuzz unit, while 24V operation serves up a tighter sound with a fatter octave effect. Once you plug in and turn up, it's hard not to sound like a rock icon with the ehx Octavix pedal.

Exactly the effect expected
Sounds great. I already had fuzz pedals and octave pedals, but wanted that ringing effect on high notes that Jimi could get. This pedal pleased me because it got delivers that effect. It is easy to control and has the 9v/24v switch for cleaner version of the effect if desired. The advice about using single-coil pups and back off the guitar's volume control was spot on. Perfect pedal!
Nice pedal
I have really enjoyed this octavix pedal. It's got the sound I was looking for. My favorite setting is with the boost and octave all the way up on 24 volts and setting the volume to taste. But there are numerous options as well. The fact that it comes with the power adapter is a big plus. Works great for me and I think you would like it too!...p.s...being digital, it is very quiet. In use or not.
If You Want Late '60s Sound, Look No Further
While the Octavix has an very wide range of sound possibilities, I found "my sound" using the 9-volt selection and fairly conservative control adjustments. I can produce the fat, buzzy sound of the late '60s without all the attendant noise (If you used the technology of the era you understand . . . everything hummed!)
This pedal very accurately produces the sounds of mic'd blown speaker we often used to get a thoroughly "fuzzed out" sound. The Octavix is first in line on my sound board to setting the baseline tone for all other pedals to work with.
This is so much more than an octaver and well worth your consideration in quest of iconic sounds.
Full Disclosure: I am an old man who came of age in the late '60s. I am also an electronics technician.
And suddenly, my board was complete.
I'd been on the fence for quite some time about what fuzz pedal I wanted to get. After chasing that Band of Gypsy's live tone for years and finally pulling the trigger on an excellent univibe, this was my last purchase to get there (as close as I can get, anyway). I like that you can dial the octave down and you have a nice day fuzz for rhythm. With the octave engaged, it takes t to another plane. Squalling, splatty octave fuzz tastiness. I'll still get a fuzz face eventually, but this will keep me happy for some time.
Octavix
getting some very cool sounds out of this pedal...doing some kinda 90s stuff
Channel Your Inner Jimi!
I already had two Muffs, and I was looking for a different flavor of fuzz. EHX always makes great sounding pedals and the Octavix is no exception. The straight up fuzz sound goes from smooth to speaker-ripping, and when you engage the octave knob, you will be EXPERIENCED! Sounds great at both the 9 and 24 volt settings, and with both single coil and humbucker guitars too.
One Killer Pedal
I can't say enough good about this pedal. It's amazing, buy it!
Fuzzy Octave
As is usual with the EHX pedals I have, I love it. I've only been able to play around with it for a couple of days, but so far it sounds great!! The toggle between 9 and 12 volts brings a really wide range of sonic possibilities. Got lost playing around with it last night in the studio - has so much fun. Really looking forward to bringing it into some recording sessions next week. Big thanks to Chris Barry for all he always does for me!!!
Small but huge sound.
I play a lot of Blues the Jimi Hendrix style. As they would say in his day the Experience way. Beefed up with fuzz and octaves. I love the different stings it has a 9 volt to 24volt switch to give it that so overdrive sound Hendrix gave, I can set this for Voodoo Child, to Red House, to purple haze. I love it with the wah wah Cry Baby pedal they are a must that go together.
Great octave fuzz.
Awesome pedal. Loads of fun to be had.
Love it
When I bought I wondered why I wanted another fuzz pedal. After playing with if for awhile I LOVED it. Great move on my part.
Almost perfect!
I don't like an overdriven sound that is dry. I like it a little wet, so that it conveys mood better. I obtained this pedal (thanks Jacob Stutzman, my Sweetwater sales rep!) to use on my pedal board, which includes a tube and fuzz overdrive. Experimenting with these three pedals (EHX Hot Tubes with real tubes, Friedman Fuzz Fiend, and this Octavix Fuzz -- I left my other pedals out), the produced some amazing sounds. I was able to dial in "my" sound, which I like to be wet, but not so much that it drowns you in non-articulate sludge. This thing really fits in well with my full pedal board, giving me a nice, wide range of sounds for several genres, from jazz to metal.
The one complaint that I have, which is minor, is that the octave function works better higher up the fretboard, especially around the twelfth fret and up. This is problematic for me because I like to use expressive double stops and triplets when I play to convey mood or accentuate lyrics. Feel is everything. My Hot Tubes and Fuzz Fiend are both tube pedals, I found that this helps offset the problem, but not to the point I would consider it solved. More, I then have to work on those pedals again to get back to where I want to be, sound-wise without losing this pedal's effects. Right now, I think if I went to a hotter pickup this might help as well, so I don't have to fiddle with the pedals as much. I'm upgrading my Broad'Trons to SD Psyclones on my Gretsch, so I'll see what happens.
Other than this one complaint, I really like this pedal!
Octavix
This is a really cool pedal. I'm really happy I got one. I personally stack mine with a big muff on leads and it's just nuts. Super cool pedal.
Decent pedal
I am in a band that covers everything from the 60's to today, country, rock, easy listening. So I have included a photo of my pedal board to show I have a few different overdrive type pedals. This electro is included on my board. It easily covers what "fuzz/octave" tones I need covered in our multi faceted set list. Its great pedal and I did allot of research and this pedal was either number 2 or the number 1 ranked pedal with many other stores like Sweetwater (especially a British Store located in Guilford England). Back to my review, its a great pedal tone wise. My only negative comment is the actual button you push to turn on/off. Its old school mechanical button, loud, and takes more pressure than any of my other pedals. With that said if you are covering Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane, or any groups from the 60's into the 70's this pedal will do it. My score is based on the tone of the pedal and how much I really hate the on/off button…
