Gibson Acoustic L-00 Original Acoustic Guitar - Vintage Sunburst Reviews
The L-00 Original is based on Gibson’s L-series small-bodied acoustics from the early 1930s. Don’t be fooled, however. This acoustic-electric guitar may be small, but it delivers big tone. That said, its smaller body is super-comfortable to play. Built from top-shelf tonewoods, the L-00 Original churns out the perfect combinations of punchiness, mid-forward projection, and ear-grabbing harmonic overtones. And its wide dynamic range stands up to gentle fingerpicking and heavy strumming alike. This A/E’s rosewood-capped mahogany neck ensures excellent playability, while LR Baggs VTC electronics serve up top-shelf amplified tone. An eye-catching antiqued finish, white script Gibson logo, and single-ply binding complete the Gibson Acoustic L-00 Original.

Best acoustic ever!
Coming from a Martin guy. This guitar is awesome!
Perfect
I have been playing about ten years or so and finally had the funds to get a nice guitar. First purchase was a Martin Dread that went back because it was just too much to comfortably play around the house. Opted for an OM28 Modern Deluxe instead. It was a nice guitar but didn't really scratch the itch for me. Sold that locally and looked for other options. There were no L-00s locally, but when I was at Rudy's Music Soho for trip I played an L-00 original and couldn't put it down. I did not end up buying that guitar as I couldn't lug it around Manhattan for a day and didn't want to ship it. Got on SW and saw a demo model. Ordered it the following Monday. It arrived in perfect condition. The guitar is absolutely fantastic. I had the saddle brought down a touch, but it was 85% to my liking upon arrival. It is a fantastic couch guitar, but it gets loud! The neck is incredibly comfortable for me - the OM28 MD gave me terrible cramps. This neck is slightly chunkier and fuller and fits my hand perfectly. I ended up putting 11s on it to loosen it up a bit and it plays like butter. Fingerpicking is fantastic, but it strums surprisingly well and is a ton of fun for playing blues. It would be a great recording instrument as well. It has that classic Gibson woodiness and a wonderful midrange. Overall, absolutely blown away and Sweetwater was excellent as always. I'll have this guitar to hopefully hand down one day.
Gibson L-00 Sweetheart!!
Just received this guitar about month ago and she is a Sweetheart!! Gibson has done a fine job of recreating a 1930's type of Delta Blues guitar similar to what Robert Johnson used and the early blues players. For finger style Delta blues, it captures that sound !! It can also be used for other fingerstyles, strumming, flat picking bluegrass, etc. But my personal opinion is that she really shines as a Delta Blues guitar, which I am using it for.The appointments on the guitar are superb and she is a real beauty to look at.The sound is beautiful now and I can't wait till she opens up and reaches her true potential!! Sweetwater( and especially Greg Block the sales rep. and others) handled the sale perfectly, she was delivered quickly (in about 4 days) in absolute perfect condition.Never having heard the guitar ( I did my homework though, and every guitar is different, so I had a general idea), I had confidence in the Sweetwater team and they delivered! Buying a guitar online can be daunting, but the Sweetwater team is very professional yet friendly, answering any questions or concerns. After my purchase, Greg sent me the professional pictures they had taken, so I was able to show others, how that for going above and beyond!!So,if you're in the market, go ahead with confidence, you won't find a better company to deal with in this day!!
Short Skirt with a Looooonooog Jacket!
I just got this little guitar and Sweet Baby Jesus, it is a sonic cannon! For such a small body I am blown away at the punchiness. The versatility is endless. It throws out a deep, chunky, percussive rhythm (think - Otis Taylor's "Nasty Letter") with ease, then intricately chimes like a church bell when finger picking (think- Dan Fogelberg's "Leader of the Band"). I own a Hummingbird, J-45 and a KOA J-200, and this little projection monster has become my favorite of all of them. No, it can't measure up to the volume and boominess of the J-200 or Hummingbird, but it's versatility to handle anything you throw at it makes it a "one size fits all" package. A girl with a short skirt and long jacket! I haven't tried the onboard electronics yet, but I always mic my gigs anyway. Don't be afraid to add this little gem to your arsenal. And kudos to my sales engineer Drake Sobehrad for the great deal and personal attention. I'll be back for some more Sweetwater business. Thank you guys SO much!

Gibson L-00 original vintage
I am completely awed by this guitar. Beautiful and so easy to play. I have played it everyday that I have had it...I own a J45 as well..but this is so special and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is on the fence...Hop off, make the purchase and truly enjoy this magnificent Gibson!! Jeff Weinstein, you helped me tremendously as my sales engineer. Thank you so much!
Beautiful Guitar
Perfect craftsmanship. Comfortable play. Stellar looks. Great guitar for fingerstyle. I was trying to decide between this guitar and a Martin 00-28. I'm very happy I chose this guitar. I think the single notes on this guitar shine with the mahogany body. I believe the Martin might have more low end and a more balanced strum. But this guitar has that distinct blues tone and I imagine is a more comfortable neck to play for me. I might have both down the line but if I could only choose one I'm confident I made the right decision! Love the small body comfortable to play guitars.
Pinnacle of Small Body Guitars
I cannot express how happy I am with this guitar. A great complement to my Larrivee OM-03. It has that distinct Gibson punch, which is the best way I can describe it. As soon as my friends played my new L-00, they started shopping for one. A big sound that seems to ring forever. I guess that is attributed to the light bracing. The guitar is the highest acoustic I have ever handled.
I started with the L-00 Studio which was a great guitar in it's own right. My sales engineer, Forest Powell, took care of me on the exchange for the Original Vintage model. Best move I ever made.
Disappointed with Glossy Finish and Durability of the Guitar
I recently purchased a guitar at what seemed like a great deal, but unfortunately, I have been left disappointed with its glossy finish and its susceptibility to dents and scratches. In this review, I will share my experience and provide an honest assessment of the guitar's quality.
Upon receiving the guitar, I immediately noticed its glossy finish, which initially seemed appealing. However, it quickly became evident that this glossy coating was more of a drawback than a benefit. Even with gentle handling, the guitar easily accumulates dents and scratches, making it look worn out and aged, far sooner than I anticipated.
The fragility of the glossy finish is disappointing, as it affects not only the guitar's appearance but also its overall durability. It seems that even the slightest impact can leave visible marks on the instrument, which is a significant concern for someone who values long-lasting quality.
Moreover, the tendency for the guitar to attract fingerprints and smudges is another drawback of the glossy finish. This means that constant cleaning and maintenance are required to keep the instrument looking presentable, which can be quite time-consuming and frustrating.
While I understand that personal preferences may vary, I expected a guitar that could withstand regular use without showing signs of wear and tear so easily. The glossy finish, although visually appealing at first, seems to be more of a hindrance than a desirable feature.
In conclusion, my experience with this guitar's glossy finish and its susceptibility to dents and scratches has been disappointing. The fragility of the glossy coating and its tendency to accumulate marks easily have left me dissatisfied with my purchase. I would advise potential buyers to consider these factors before making their decision, especially if they prioritize durability and maintaining the instrument's appearance over time.
