Gibson Acoustic 60s J-45 Original Acoustic Guitar - Wine Red Reviews

6-string Acoustic Guitar with Spruce Top, Mahogany Back and Sides, Mahogany Neck, and Rosewood Fingerboard - Wine Red

This throwback J-45 proves why Gibson's timeless dreadnought is forever known as "The Workhorse." The Gibson Acoustic '60s J-45 Original features a round-shouldered dreadnought mahogany body with a Sitka spruce top and nitro finish to strike the imitable '60s Gibson balance of rich lows, detailed mids, and mellow highs. All told, it's a recipe for revelatory tone and mammoth projection. The period-correct nut spacing makes for comfortable fingering anywhere on the neck. And '60s-era appointments, including a cream Grover strap button and double antiqued binding, make for one unforgettable playing experience. Whether you're performing folk, rock, indie, or country music, you'll delight in the feel and tone of this classic American institution: the '60s J-45 Original.

this is the one

By casey from mississippi on July 19, 2023 Music Background: 30 plus year guitar player

ok guy or gal,,um this guitar is awesome.. Ive bought a guitar from sweetwater before and they set them up great.. i purchased this model j45 while on a trip in Nashville.. let me tell you,,, at first i wasn't all that impressed but my j45 opened up qiukly and now i wouldn't take $10000000 for it.. its so mellow with a wonderful base roar,,the trebles just ring out like any Gibson does.. Gibson owns trebles..the strings are so easy to mash and the short scale is just a joy to play.. i have medium to medium small size hands and the neck is fine..this neck is a touch thicker than a standard j45 so it works for larger hands as well.. If you want a bluegrass guitar, go buy a martin d28 or d18,, but if you want a sound like nothing else,,,get a j45. and this model j45 rocks.. something about this bridge makes it sound unique,,or atleast mine does.. this guitar is great for rock, blues, folk.fingerpicking and rockabilly country. its very beautifull as it opens up with age..I own several guitars and i like my j45 the best probably because its so unique.. when you buy it,,make sure not to set it too low of a string hieght to kill the tone..give it a little string space and watch ,or should i say listen to this baby open up.Mine is so beautiful it almost makes me cry..Ive become a Gibson fan for life. Or atleast a j45 fan. Every acoustic guitar player needs atleast 2 guitar... A j45 and something else.

Honestly, it's the adjustable bridge

By Weylin Stewart from Jasper, AL on July 18, 2023 Music Background: Been at it awhile, still not good

Plays as good as an old 1963 SJ that I had. I have tried every brand, and this is the first time that I am satisfied. Got a demo model that had some paint flaws. Don't care, it gave it instant character. The adjustable bridge was easy to dial in my action. I recommend this if you're trying to find that vintage feel. This is it.

One of the best playing guitars I've ever had in my hands!

By Stoney Ridge Farmer (Youtuber) from North Carolina on January 15, 2021 Music Background: I just love playing

This guitar is simply beautiful and plays as good as it looks right out of the box. The deep dark red on this guitar mesmerizes everyone that sees it...then they play it and the smiles don't stop. Great sounding professional grade instrument that reminds you how much you love to play every time you touch it. From top to bottom a wonderful playing eye catching guitar throwback from the 60s. The 60s style neck is subtle and easy to wrap your hand around with comfort and style. No need for a pro setup on this Axe...she's ready to hit the stage our the living room right out of the box. Simply perfection in a Gibson J-45. This is an heirloom piece you'll pass down to your grandkids...Gibson is not only a great instrument..it's a great investment and something that you'll only love more with time.

Very Nice Guitar

By Sweetwater Customer from Panama City Beach, FL on April 23, 2021 Music Background: Casual at-home player

I decided to check out this guitar based on my recollection of a standard J45 that impressed me a few years ago. I'm glad I did! This one shares many of the same characteristics, despite the different saddle, and looks stunning as well (not that the standard J45s are unattractive by any means).

All of the hardware and materials on this guitar are very nice. I particularly like that I can see the wood grain through the finish. However, I find the combination of a clean, white pick guard and yellowed binding really odd. Everything done in white would have looked super sharp. I'm not a child of the 60's; I just really like this finish and wish I had a "new" version of it.

The build quality is a good step below my Taylor 314, but acceptable - especially if you embrace Gibsons as being more hand-built than the other big makers. Very light guitar - 4lbs. 2oz. Warm and clear sounding with crisp trebles and firm, piano-like basses. Nice balance across the strings and up the neck. The short 24.75" scale makes for easy playing, and the fuller neck profile feels great for my larger hands.

Everyone has their own understanding of what a guitar should be, and this one satisfies the rock 'n roller in me. Overall I feel really good about this 2021 Gibson.
