Thanks to the esteemed team of plug-in experts at GForce, this timeless synthesizer classic is available right on your computer screen. Modern features within the OB-X's vintage chassis include 16 voice polyphony, X-Modifier technology, LFO and ADSR modulation, and chord mode, expanding the potential of the original unit far past its original boundaries. To retain the same signature tone, an onboard vintage knob dials in ample amounts of analog imperfections — a feature Sweetwater synth devotees genuinely appreciate. The Best Software Synth

By Jake Griffin from Trail Creek, IN on April 10, 2024

I picked this up after being a bit unhappy with another Oberheim emulation I'd been using for years and this quickly became my favorite synth. With 16 voices and "on board" effects, it's extremely versatile and sounds absolutely massive. It's also an extremely accurate recreation of the real deal, both in terms of sound and controls. My only complaint is the sample/hold LFO. Something just sounds a bit off with it, like it's on a very short loop of predetermined values rather than true S/H. Other than that, it's just about perfect in my opinion. I can't say enough good things about this synth.

Great sounding synth!

This VST is easy to use and sounds incredible. Sweetwater support quickly resolves issues in addition to prompt follow up.

Gforce is a force w. which to be reckoned.

My first Gforce VST was their Oddity, bought to digitally represent my 1979 Arp Odyssey III (unfortunately sans the "PPC";). Years later I upgraded to the newest version of Oddity. Sold on Gforce, I have since bought the OB-E (representative of the droolable Oberheim 8-Voice) and this purchase from Sweetwater: the OB-X.

Honestly, when the hardware version of this instrument hit the market, it was more expensive than my fully loaded Chevy Chevette. Then, all of the polys were out of my price range. Now with VST 3 technological maturity, virtually flying VST's allows one to "be there".

The sound is rich, as are all three of my Gforce VST's. Though I have no hardware version of my Obie VST's, I do own a now rare Tom Oberheim S.E.M. MIDI module (sold to me by S.S.'s par excellent sales engineer Bob Furlong), a Matrix 6R, and have had the Matrix-12 and the OB-X in my studio. Purists will always nitpick idiosyncratic nigglings about what is the true sound of a certain synth. Owners will say that the Thyzzorthatt V-X II VST doesn't sound like the one they have at home. But the truth is probably that no two Thyzzorthatt V-X It's are totally identical in their sound.

So the issue is more if the identifiable character is intact. With the OB-X, it is. The first things I listen to are the brass patches and the pads. Of course everyone will try "Jump", but honestly with the sound the record indelibly imprinted in minds, judging the quality on such a basis may be a bit like judging how much one sounds like a favorite singer when alone singing along with them blaring away on the stereo.

Bottom line: IMHO, I find the GForce OB-X a must have for anyone doing music in the late 70's through early 90's genres and music for scoring.

SIDidizzzouttt, Sweetwater. No. You hang up.
