Good for old timer and beginner alike!!

By Skater from NW Ohio
Music Background: Playing 50's thru 70's rock & roll over 60 years.

#1) Sweetwater is the absolute best place there is to get your musical gear and equipment!!!! Hands down, full stop. Special thanks and shout out to Jeremey!!!!

Now, this set of e-drums is great!! Alesis is a good name. I am an old-time drummer from the 60's. Played a lot of Hendrix and Cream and Grand Funk back in the day. I moved on to bass and guitar and keyboards thru the years but have done very little drumming since then. I always have the hands tapping out beats tho. Lately, in my old age, I have developed an itch to play drums again. Not on stage or in a band really but in my musical room. So, I did a lot of looking on Sweetwater. I picked this set and am I glad I did!! They're GREAT!!! Really. You can spend a lot more but for my purposes this set is a good pick.

A little confusing to get put together due to poor directions but you can do it. Now that I've got them together and tweaked to preferences, I love 'em. They're solid, sound great, lots of options. Very quiet!! I was surprised how quiet. I live in an apartment and now I have no worries. I recommend this set to anyone.

great kit for the price

By Cody from San Antonio

We got this for my son's second set. Really easy to put together and they sound great. You will need an external sound source and it does not come with the USB-B cable you need to connect a laptop to

Awesome

By Sean-Michael N. from Pittsburgh, PA

I couldn't be happier. I don't know when the mesh thing became a thing, but I love it. Night and day from conventional rubber pads.

The sounds are good, too; and the console is easy to use.

Only things you should know:

1) buy a headphone breakout cable (Sweetwater: Hosa YMP-434 Stereo Breakout Cable - 3.5mm TRS Female to Left and Right 1/4-inch TS Male), unless you like listening to mono in your left headphone only.

2) if you want headphone free playing, make sure you have a latency-free speaker. I ordered a couple of JBL go's 2nd gen because they had aux-in, and I was hoping for nice stereo low-volume practicing, but they had big-time latency (which is no good for drumming, where timing is everything). My Roland Micro Cube guitar amp does the trick (it has a regular aux in).

Simply get the breakout cable and this is the best silent drum kit you will find for the money

Not bad at all

Great practice kit for home

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: long-time drummer

I was looking for an electronic drum kit to practice at home in my townhouse. The Alesis Nitro Max Mesh fit the bill perfectly. It's easy to assemble, made of quality materials (though it's lightweight), adjustable, has good feel on the drum heads, cymbal pads, and kick/hi-hat pedals and sounds good through headphones. Bonus is that you can Bluetooth your phone through the on-board computer so you can play along to music through the headphones. No adapter required, though I think you could probably connect a cable just as easily.

Three tips: (1.) the assembly instructions have you install the arm that supports the snare below the crossbar that supports the computer module. This is okay if you are assembling it for a child. If assembling for a full-sized human, you should install the arm that supports the snare above the computer crossbar and below the rack tom crossbar. (2.) you're going to need a rug/carpet to set this up on. If not, the kick pedal and the hi-hat pedal will slide away from you as you play. (3.) you'll need to purchase a drum stool if you don't already have one as it does not come with the kit.

Whether you are looking for a good starter kit or are just a drummer who wants a practice kit, you can buy this kit with confidence that it will work for you.

A Christmas miracle

By Anitra from West Virginia

Sweetwater really came through with this electric drum set just in time for Christmas. I ordered this on Monday and it was delivered to our local Walgreens on Wednesday Christmas Eve. It was the only gift that my daughter asked for for Christmas. Everyone in the family has been enjoying the gift. It has great sound and was super easy to set up I would recommend this 3000%.

Great kit for the money

By Danny from San Diego, CA

I have been beating away on my new Alesis Nitro Max drums. I played drums for a short time as a little kid and they were too big and too loud for our home. Being in California we don't have basements and cellars, so your parents and neighbors either dig it or they don't. I started playing guitar in high school and I am 64 years old now. My whole life I have driven people crazy as I am always tapping out a beat with my hands and feet. One day I was checking out e-kits and it sparked a fire inside me, and that fire is my first love, drums. So I took a chance on the Alesis kit, my wife was absolutely encouraging me to do it. It is amazing how well it sounds. I can play through an amp if I need to, but it is so great, to throw on the headphones, bring up some lessons, or bluetooth some music in and just groove. I have only had this kit for a few weeks, ordered it from Sweetwater and it was here in no time, so far everything works great. I didn't give it a full 5 stars because the rack is a little bit wobbly, but I am fine with that. I am going to keep playing and see where things go, but it is amazing at my age I can get on my throne and 3 hours goes by so fast I just get in that bitchin happy place and it feels amazing. Overall great drum kit, decent price, tons of features, what else can you ask for.

Alesis Nitro Max E drums (bundle) Great Set

By Musical g. from SoCal
Music Background: Experienced

I've been using Alesis since the 80s with the HR-16 and SR-18? Drum machines (for guitar). I'm an experienced musician/ guitar player of many other parts but have played acoustic drums over 5 years with 3 different kits I've owned. I had no reservations about buying this electronic kit, and it's really lived up to my expectations for home and quiet use. The setup takes a little time to get it right as the manual is ambiguous, but SW vids helped; had multiple movements, adjustments, but not a big deal. It's a little wonky but....Once you got it set properly, it's so fun to play with headphones (input on side) and also monitors. I use my little 3" Presonus Monitors (I'd recommend highly for a cheap solution) I had with 2 10' TRS cables. Impressive sound and loud enough! Fun playing and has a click, sample songs to jam with for timing, etc. I've yet to get into the online BFD and Drummeo stuff which is a bonus. If you're considering a fairly budget kit this is A+. If you're a pro, move up on the echelon with Alesis. But If you are a pro on a budget, I'd feel this could fit the niche as well.

Solid option

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: Drummer/Percussionist

This is great drum set for the price range. The pedals don't have the best feel, at least for my preference, but they get the job done. It's very easy to move around and customize.

Not double pedal compatible

By Michael G. from Pflugerville, TX
Music Background: Music Educator

The value on this set is superb. The extra crash and tom 4 are well worth it. In fact, that tom 4 is the only way to get a real deep floor tom sound. The kits have set aside the true floor tom sample for this tom 4.

Even though you could squeeze both double pedal beaters into the bass trigger, the "Sweet spot" is only about 2", so putting a double pedal on it results in very faint triggers on the outside of the sweet spot. So not really compatible.

Great Beginners Drum Set

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: First time drummer

I had no prior drumming experience and I didn't have a big budget for a drum set, so this electric drum set was perfect for me to learn the ropes. If you are wanting to learn the drums without breaking the bank and can't make a lot of noise in your home, this is a solid option.

Excellent Intro to Drums

By Ty G. from Lancaster
Music Background: recording artist

This model has a lot of amazing features that make it easy to use. I can go direct in for easy recording and the bluetooth option is also nice. Easy set up and great drum tones. The only downside I have found thus far is that the frame could be a bit more stable. The frame moves a decent amount while playing and the snare drum sags just a touch from the weight. Would absolutely buy again and recommend to friends.

Such a good kit for $

By Robert R. from Michigan

The set up for this kit was really easy, and you Drumeo 90 days for free, and the free BFD software, AND Bluetooth with the touch of a button! This kit is a must have for beginners or experienced drummers looking to downgrade an electric kit, or need something on the lower budget side of things. The sounds of the drums and the material of the hardware is really good. My only critique is that you're kind of screwed if you don't have a carpet place to put this kit because the hi-hat and kick pedal will slide all over.

5 star kit for the price

By Adam T. from New Cumberland, PA
Music Background: Lifelong musician /singer /songwriter

I'm a 50-year seasoned musician but wanted to learn drums so I picked up this kit. It sounds great. (#7 is my favorite kit.)

Here's a little advice on accessories though because I had a few issues outside of the kit itself such as ground hum/noise.

Get a good audio interface. I use a two channel Volt 276. Stereo out is light years better than mono out. The nice thing about this interface is it has both compression, which is great for thickening drums, and a vintage switch which just warms everything up. It just makes the kit sound better and it already sounds great. Get quality balanced and matching cables. Just par for the course. Most importantly, plug everything into a good surge protecter/conditioner such as the Furman SS-6B. I had ground hum issues at first plugging into a cheap multiplug outlet. Furman fixed it.

I highly recommend this kit for beginners or mid-level players. I have nothing negative to say about it and I would if I did. It feels good and sounds good.

Would be really great if they didn't have significant problems

By Chris G. from North Carolina
Music Background: Since 1996

These would be quite amazing if not for the significant issues they have with disconnects. The feel is amazing on the kit. The response is really nice. The pads aren't the "hard" pads and you can really feel the bounce on the snare mesh. It really lends itself to allowing you to play very well.

At least in EZDrummer the rim around the snare just doesn't feel the best when I'm playing. It's not the worst thing though. There are a few little things like that which could be improved but considering the price is quite low you can't really complain about the small things.

The problem is that I've gone through two of these kits' controllers (Alesis provided me with a new one), different cables, a new computer build, a new audio interface etc and I still have the same problem. Randomly when I'm playing USB just completely disconnects and I have to turn off the power, turn it back on and tell the DAW to reset the MIDI.

I won't completely rule it out that there is some ghost in my room that's really messing with me, but I'd say that I can't imagine what else could possibly be going wrong. Who knows.

Otherwise I have a lot of good things to say about this kit.

Great beginner electronic kit

By Jim L. from NY

The Nitro Max was easy to set up, thanks to the video alesis has on youtube.
The sounds are great. The rack and drums are sturdy enough for home practice.
It was so easy to plug in headphones and use the bluetooth to play along with my phone.
For the price this is an excellent way for beginners to be able to practice
while barely making any noise.

Overall good, missing a few key features to be perfect.

By Jordan B.
Music Background: Noob

I honestly love this kit so I'm going to list negatives, but that's because everything i don't list is a positive.
One of the biggest things this kit is missing is software. This is as far as I can tell marketed as a beginner kit. It's got the USB-B built in. What it's missing is a good software suite to really tie it all together and make it totally newb friendly. The software should support direct recording, not just MIDI data, export and import kit sounds, configure your kit, etc. That's practically my only complaint, it can be a bit cumbersome. The feature set that's built in without software is remarkable in it's own right. I wish there were a way to separate the click from the audio out in the back. So I can play through a speaker with click in headphones. One last note is that it is short. I am 6'1" and I have to rise it up to get it to a comfortable height.

Alesis Nitro Max - Nice!

By Even S. from Upstairs
Music Background: Light gray with white accents

Excellent drum kit.BFD internal samples are really good. Alesis set this one up right, much better than they were 10 years ago. Sensitivity and dynamics are spot on. The mesh heads feel pretty good and the tension is totally adjustable. First thing I did was tighten the heads after setup. BFD support is great, they answered an issue I had on a Saturday. Here is the huge drawback, they don't tell you if you want to ever add expansion kits ,you will need to upgrade your supplied Core BFD player to at least a BFD3 player (on sale for 59.99 now) and then pay extra for the expansion kits also. You only get the Core kit with the drum set. But..they alone are good.

Great starter kit

By R s. from Los Angeles

I purchased this for my 18 year old son for Christmas. We built the kit together, and it took about an hour to assemble, while watching a 'how to' on YouTube. He has been practicing every day, and seems to be very happy with the drum set after a few weeks of good use. I would definitely recommend as a great starter /practice kit.
I don't think this is an appropriate kit to be gigging with, as the rack seems to be pretty lightweight.

Hardware is junk

By Schuyler G. from WINNER, SD
Music Background: 25 years of drumming experience

I bought this kit about 18 months ago. I have played it almost every day for minimum one hour. The presets are pretty good, the drums and cymbals are about what you would expect for the price point. My only complaint is the kick drum. It will not stay, I've tried everything to keep it from moving around but I have not found a solution, also terrible for double bass pedals. My other, and biggest complaint is the rack. Every single session I sit down to play I have to fix it at least once. It's not sturdy, the clamps do not hold anything together for long and the snare is guaranteed to fall (especially if you're a hard hitter)

Overall I think this would be good for a child that's not playing very hard. But if you're an older teenager or an adult I'd recommend spending a few hundred more to buy something of better quality

Great kit , well made

By Rick L. from Raleigh, NC

I am not a very good Drummer, but I have always loved the drums, when I was 11 yrs old my parents bought me a 5 piece kit , now I am 61 and just missed messing around trying to play. This Alesis Nitro kit is affordable and well made and has so many sounds. I would normally have purchased it from Amazon, but you cannot get the Customer Service and Support like you do from SWEETWATER .

great for beginners

By Tyler W. from ROCHESTER, NY

i got this kit about 6 months back to use for more quiet practice and i think it performs very well for the price but unfortunately i did experience some problems, i am a metal drummer and i play really fast stuff so i hooked up a double pedal to it and i found that the kick drum seems too perform pretty poorly around 250 bpm but i think thats asking a lot for a $ e-kit also it required some fine tuning in order to even reach 160 (quarter notes) i had to mess around with the settings a lot, another issue that i have is of all the cymbals only one is choke-able i don't know if thats just an issue with the one i got but its worth pointing out. i think this kit is good for beginners because it doesn't have too many settings to worry about and it may be slightly limiting for faster tempos but like i said earlier for $ i wasn't expecting to go super fast, the hi-hat pedal is a bit of a pain and took some getting used to, i say this because when you press it down its half closed then when you press it harder its full closed so there was an adjustment period to get the pressures right, also the ride bell is very sensitive. basically if you are a metal drummer or any drummer that plays fast maybe save up a little bit more for a better one.

Great noiseless drum option for aspiring drummer who wants to stay friends with the neighbors but wants the experience.

By Edward S. from VA
Music Background: Begininner

My kid is learning drums as part of his education to become a future percussionist at the middle school band. Up to this point we had a drum pad and he would play real drums at his music class where they have a traditional set up. I wanted something for the house that he could practice on, but that would have the option for him to hear while giving us the option to not hear if we chose. As a starting out drum set this made alot of sense and I am happy with the product. The directions are pretty easy to follow but I did find the cable hook up confusing in that the book doesn't talk about it at all, but I had a feeling each cable part needed to hook up to a different part of the set but I couldn't figure out where the ports are. Luckily there are a ton of Youtube set up videos around about this drum set and everything is super easy to set up once you understand what is required. The drum set comes with all of the tools you need and once you get that everything can be moved around and shifted to your desired spot it all comes together pretty easily. Set up does take time so give yourself a moment. Once the drum set was put together figuring out how to use it was intuitive. I would recommend this as a starting out set for anyone that has a kid interested but doesn't want to commit to a higher dollar set. Let them work themselves up to that and let them have this in the interim. You'll be glad with the decision.

The rack is garbage!

By Brett R. from Belle Chasse, LA

The drums are great, the cymbals are cool, the module is spiffy, but the rack is a steaming pile of poo! It's just waiting on you to breathe wrong for it to fall apart. If you are wondering how they can sell it so cheap I'll tell you how a peice of crap rack!

Good Sound, Hardware Sucks

By Schuyler G. from WINNER, SD
Music Background: 24 years of drumming, 13 years of guitar

I waited a few months to play and get to know the kit before leaving this review. Love the sound of the preset kits. The bass drum is a little too sensitive if you are a foot down player. The hardware is less than average. The rack itself wobbles a lot. I did make sure everything was tight, and it didn't seem to help. The rod holding the snare drum doesn't stay in if you are a heavy hitter. It falls out several times during my practice sessions. It's frustrating, but it's what you get with an electric kit is this price range. Besides the kick pad being almost too small for a double pedal, and the hardware being garbage I do like the kit. Hardware 3/10. Sound quality 8/10. Feel 8/10. Overall would be great for a beginner, just be prepared to keep loosening and tightening pieces.

Amazing Electronic Drum Set!!

By JC from LEWISTON, ID

This is a fantastic electronic drum set, especially for the price! All the features work great and you can easily plug it into an audio interface and record onto your computer. The base for it is a little short and wobbly, but that doesn't really bother me much. If you want an electric drum kit that doesn't cost much but is good quality, I do recommend this. Also thank you to my sales engineer Troy for helping me out with the issue I was having with my card and making sure everything got to me as soon as possible!!

I also got amazing service with shipping from sweetwater and a really nice guy helped me get everything set!

Great for a beginner

By Dave E. from Spokane

I'm starting drums late. I've just been diagnosed with a neurological issue at the age of 70, and my balance and coordination are all off. Having a set of drums will help. These arrived quickly and were relatively easy to set up. The module is great, with plenty of features. One feature that I will find useful is Bluetooth - I have Guitar Pro 8, and many of the songs I have purchased from the software company are "full" tracks, which include drum tracks.
I can load up the Android version on my Chromebook, secure it to my sheet music stand, load up a track and loop whatever I like - with the sound of GP8 coming out of the Alesis via Bluetooth. Also allows me to solo or mute individual tracks.
All in all I like this kit - I'm looking at the expansion pack and will contact Caleb Lowrey, who was great with my questions, when I decide.

Great kit for the price!

By Forrest from Nashville

So far (1 month) I am really enjoying this kit. Comes with everything you need except a throne and headphones but i already had those. Plenty of sounds in the module but many of them are not usable (they sound silly.) Ive heard that customizing you own sounds per drum/cymbal is the way to go, but i havent tried it yet. The mesh heads feel great and the rack is sturdy.
I dont like that you cant add other drum sounds (from virtual drum software) to the module. You can monitor these vst sounds through the output device of your choice on your computer but good luck getting the latency low enough to play in time. I also dont like how low the whole rack sits. I have it at its highest setting and the snare is still below my knees. Im 6'0. It needs to be about 4" higher for me. Why not just add the extra length to the rack legs? That doesnt make sense to me.
Overall, i love the kit. Its great for practicing quietly.

GREAT starter kit

By Gary B. from ARGYLE, WI
Music Background: Professional Armature

Well, I decide in my mid 60's to start playing guitar. I tried convincing my wife to start playing one along with me, but she said no. However, I was shocked when she said "I might like the drums." Needless to say that her 2023 Christmas gift was an easy one.

After doing much research, I found a lot of recommendations for the Alesis Nitro Max Mesh. So, I placed and order with my Sales Engineer pal NICK HUSKINS and the rest is an awesome history. It turns out she has a better built in metronome than me. This kit is amazing for the very reasonable price, and very student friendly. A built in metronome (for those of us who are not gifted) and many other features make this the deal of the year. It is expandable for a couple more pieces that are very nicely priced from Sweetwater.

Everyone does a pro and con, so this is my simple one:

Pros: - Price and a control module that allows several types of interface to computer or directly to powered speakers or
headphones.
Con: - The stands are a bit flimsy, but we amateurs need not worry about moving them from gig to gig.

I highly recommend this kit as it is built with the same quality of my Alesis Artist Keyboard that I also purchased from Sweetwater.

Buy with confidence, and enjoy lots of years of playing sooner than later.

Great starter kit.

By Vin from Michigan
Music Background: Songwriter

This kit was everything I was looking for as a new drummer. The sounds are good. Some of the samples have a weird decay but the initial sounds are nice. The pads are very responsive and fully adjustable to taste. So far the pads seem durable. The rack is a little flimsy but I'd rather have the quality in the pads and module so I'm ok with the not so great rack. I love the practice features in the module. I'm pretty much self teaching so having the practice modes helps a lot. For the price this is perfect to start. I'm hoping to get good enough to justify an upgrade but for now this is excellent for me needs.

Mighty fine Alesis Nitro Max E-tronic drums

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: Currently play in two bands: keyboard - 60 years; upright bass - 20 years, banjo - 25 years

This equipment is amazing! My Grandson, who was becoming a couch potato, now spends hours a day and evening ripping thru various drum rhythms! And he paricularly enjoys creating his own! Its opened up an entire new world for him! If you are thinking about these - just do it!
He loves playing thru the headset, but they sound just as good thru a small amp! And even his sister (a violinist) is frequently seen working out on this gear. We have not 'gigged' together yet - I hope that comes soon!
The drums do not appear flimsy or look like they will wear out quickly. While time will tell, the extra warranty that Sweetwater offered compared to other vendors - made buying from Sweetwater a no brainer! Two things: Just know that it will take about 3 hours to set up; & you may not see your Grandson very often - even difficult to get him to stop for supper!!!!

Nitro Max drum set is terrific!

By RPITT from Pittsburgh
Music Background: Casual lunatic

Looking for a highly capable electric kit that would not kill the budget, and my sales engineer Matt hit it on the nose with this choice. Works well with my DAW and configures nicely with several well known VST's. Love how configurable the heads are with the mesh covering, lets the sticks snap tight however you want it. I also got the expansion pack to get a fuller sound and really love it! Run the module to my computer via USB, and the live sound to my board and amp output is really good. I do a lot of home recording but can see this kit being used on small gigs easily. Run it through a laptop and clean stereo amp and you are set. Highly recommend!!
