Boss Nextone Stage 1 x 12-inch 40-watt Combo Amp
Boss Nextone Stage 1 x 12-inch 40-watt Combo Amp Reviews
From the focused punch of an American 6L6 to the juicy sag of a British EL84, power tubes play an important part in an amplifier's signature tone and response. And with the BOSS Nextone Stage, capturing the magic of four major output tube types is as easy as twisting a dial. This 2-channel, 40-watt 1 x 12" combo features the latest iteration of BOSS's Tube Logic technology — the same building blocks from which BOSS's Katana and Blues Cube lines were built. In the Nextone Stage, every choice of output tube re-voices the entire circuit to perform more like your favorite classics. Breakup and bias, sparkle and sag — every type imparts its own characteristics, giving you cranked-up tube glory at bedroom listening levels. Carefully matched preamp saturation complements each tube choice, giving you real-deal American blues and British browns from one capably compact gigging platform.
New for
A Great Amp for Small to Medium-size Gigs!
I've used this amp on 3 gigs now and am nothing but impressed! First of all, I recently turned 70, and a light weight amp is more a necessity than a luxury, at this point. But the tone is there!! The output tube simulations are very close and it's easy to go between say a Fender Deluxe Reverb (6V6), Twin Reverb (6L6), Vox AC30 (EL84) or a number of Marshalls (EL34). The effects loop is handy, and the onboard reverb and delay are very nice! And I haven't even gotten into creating and downloading sounds for the 3rd and 4th "channels". This should be FUN!!
Just what I was looking for.
A great sounding amp that's not overly complicated
If you're into metal this is probably not the amp for you but with the right pedal setup it could be.
Just a really versatile amp in my opinion.
IT'S THE BOSS APPLESAUCE!
This amp will blow you away
First let me thank Will Crisp. Thanks Will if you need anything this is the man to see. Everything I have ordered from Sweetwater in last several years has been through Will, he is valuable asset for Sweetwater. Let's talk about the boss Nextone stage 40. This amp simulates four different Tube amplifiers. British tube sounding tubes EL84 and EL34 and American sounding tubes 6L6 and the 6V6 tube style. This is as close as you are going to get to owning 4 different sounding amps with out putting in you the poor house. It is amazing amp I believe who ever purchase will not be dissatisfied. Again, Thank you Will.
Sincerely, Jim Lawson
Boss Tone
Just what I've been looking for. A lot of tone shaping options.
Been using the .5 watt option practicing in my apartment. Still
pretty loud if you turn it up! Headphones work with it too and
really sound just like the amp. Loving the sounds from this thing.
Also changes up your playing attack and greatly improves your playing.
You might wonder how that can be. All I can say is try one and decide for yourself
Highly recommended if you are looking for tube performance with digital
reliability.
Best Amp ever!!!
I recently wrote a review of this amp,I have been enjoying it ever since. The amp opens up so many tones.and with four tube choices to work with.the possibilities are endless.I didn't want a modeling amp with a ton of effects I like using my own pedals this amp is perfect for that and having an effects loop let's me place my pedals were I want them, even when using my looper pedal. All I can say is Boss hit a home run with this amp and I'll be enjoying it for a long time.
Nextone update
I gave a review of this amp and I really like it ,but now it's even better The Sweetwater tech,Logan Stefanich, help to set up the tone editor. It unlocked so many different settings and tones I know I'll be playing with this amp for a long time .it really brings out the 4 tube settings ,it's just an fantastic amp .thanks again Logan another reason I only buy my gear at Sweetwater.
Great at lower volumes, could use a bit more headroom
It's close to the perfect practice amp for me. Sounds excellent at lower volumes, which is what I need 90% of the time. The 6L6 and 6V6 tube emulations were the draw for me and retain their character at .5 watt and 10 watt settings. The 12" speaker has a nice, full, well-rounded response with a rich warm low end. The mids are a bit woolen but the highs really ring out. It's also a nice platform for pedals, I have a chorus and reverb in the loop but the Orange 2 stroke, JHS Muffuletta, and Keeley D&M drive sound great through the front input. I do wish it had more clean headroom though, the tube emulation doesn't do justice to a Tweed amp's saturation response.
Prefer It Over Katana, Fender GTX, Vox Cambridge - Great Vintage Tones, Great Home Player, Home Recording Amp
Out of the Box insane sound
Opened box, plugged in amp, downloaded software... The 30+ tones and amp sound fantastic. Huge range of sounds and the amp is very high quality. I had a Katana MKii which introduced me to the BOSS Katana family, and this was a tremendous addition.
Overpriced
...It's not twice as good as a Katana 50. The lead channel is just not right. The amp is ok but anything much beyond a boosted clean tone starts to get disappointing. I bought this a year ago to replace a Katana 50. I have since gotten a Blues Jr and a Supro Blues King 10. I would recommend any of these three other amps over the Nextone Stage, especially the Supro Blues King 12 or 10.
Sweet Amp
I have the Artist and picked up the stage because it was a little easier to take with me to gigs. Max the Master Volume, pick the tube type, set the eq where it sounds good to you and you are ready to go. Sweet sound from the clean channel and it takes pedals well but I find just going straight into the amp works well. Great amp and has the feel of a tube amp. Always keep the Master Volume maxed and it will sound great.
One review two reviews
This review Is number two, I love this amp, it is truly amazing how Boss has designed the Nextone, I have the 80 watt Nextone on my radar as a second amp, the 40 watt is perfect but like they say more is better....If you play blues or rock these amp sound identical to any tube amp, my playing has come alive, you can feel this ! I currently have the Katana 100 mk 2 and the katana 50, and both are really fine products but I find myself fiddling around with the knobs all the time, and I guess if you have the patience that's fine, but the Nextone is so easy to tweak it puts the fun back in playing !
Good amp; versatile for clean and lighter distortion; can be very loud and very quiet
Great package for the price
I decided to purchase a new amplifier because my previous amplifier started to sound bad. It also did not have standby and had no headphone jack. I plan to use this amp primarily for practicing at home and playing at small venues. This amp is very versatile. There are so many ways to modify the sound of the amp via connecting to a computer and using the downloadable Nextone editor software. I like the variety and quality of the sounds. I have only played at half-watt but could see the amp being able to go much louder. I could see this amp also being a great first amplifier. The amp is so versatile that it will probably meet the players requirements for many years.
An Excellent Solid-State Tube Modeling Amp with a Distinct Character of Its Own
Nextone so far...
Just want to say I received my Nextone Stage a couple of days ago and am very happy so far. I want to give Sweetwater a big well done for their handling of my order. Process went smooth and the care they took with packing my amp was second to none.. Double boxed with excellent protection. Very professional job imo. Sweetwater is a great place to do business with again. Made my purchase while a sizeable discount was available.. I'd say it was a Sweet deal..
I will update in a month or so after I have had more time with the Nextone but my initial impression after just a couple of days is a very good one.
Recomend for Worship Musicians
I"m a stubborn tube guy but I"ve been very impressed with the Tube Logic circuitry on these amps. I now own two Katana amps (50, 100 head), and the Nextone Stage amp. I play for a couple of churches in my area. The flexibility the Nextone provides fits my needs perfectly with the direct-out and power selection for reduced stage volume (yes, I use both). I"ve found that the power amp tube emulation works well with different guitars. If you"re only using one, you may not notice much change between settings. Finally, the size and weight is perfect for a +55 y.o. dude to haul around.
Fills a needed niche in the product line.
two thumbs up!
So far, so good! I just got this amp and it has all the bells that I need to get me out from the garage to the studio to the stage. thanks to many of tests and research, this is what I was looking for.
Best Amp Yet
I took a chance with this one, as I was starting to have trouble with my tube amp. I have to say, that this is the best amp I've ever played in 36 years of playing! It reacts just like a tube amp. It's loud and full, but retaining the detail and clean sparkle we expect from a solid state amp. I'm just starting to play with all the features, but I have to say it takes pedals quite well. Also, the fact that it's light and doesn't break my (now aging) back is a big plus. This is the first solid state amp I wouldn't have any problems gigging with. The only thing I might change is the speaker. It's pretty good, but I think a Celestion or Eminence might give it a bit more character. If you're on the fence, don't worry. Just buy it. You'll be happy you did!
Great Sound and Overall Value
I"m still getting used to all of the tone options. Tons of capability in the software to create custom settings as well. Like the videos say, this amp has great cleans and decent overdrive. May not compete with all the high gain amps out there, but that"s not what I bought it for. Very happy with my purchase so far.
Highly delighted
Long time sceptic of claims made for New- tech" and just like" etc, after owning loads of high end amps and modelling units ( one of which is my current gig-rig ) I needed to replace my backup/ rehearsal unit an aging AV 60 which has done good service with a newer smaller one, after returning a Katana which was yuk , I got the Nextone stage which I absolutely LUV " feel and tone great, custom sounds better , just one niggle is the loss of chorus" in fx as trem isn"t my thing , but maybe a future download? , this little amp is a keeper, line out to desk on low power setting I can back of the vol on the guitar with lead sound which cleans it up then wind into o/d and scream , just like a good valve amp , nice one Boss .
